Lexus will continue to manufacture most reliable cars . This is because of Japanese attention to detail. Also lexus tends not to stress there engines . BMW and Mercedes equals endless money pit 👌 😎.

They really seem to hate the Lexus IS. They say Mercedes and BMW are better cars but they also say these cars are unreliable. CR/Talking Cars is all over the map.

Never ever put money down on a lease! If you get into an accident, that down payment is gone. If you're going to lease, stop looking at cars you think you can afford and start looking for desirable cars that depreciate very little. If a car has good resale, no matter what it costs new, it's residual value will be high and it may have a lease rate similar to a much "cheaper" car that depreciates quicker. In the past BMW's were always good bets as a nice 3 series could be had in the $300's/month with no money down. Next, you can often lower the lease rate by "buying down the money factor" with additional security deposits. Security deposits are completely refundable and companies like BMW will let you give them up to 7 of them in exchange for a far lower "interest rate". Additionally, if the finance department is the car company and not a 3rd party, they will sometimes work to move inventory with special lease rates. Look for these to pop up at end of quarters and especially end of year if they need to meet a specific number of units sold. Lastly, watch for deals on out of season inventory. Convertibles sitting in lots in January will sometimes have spectacular lease rates appear because they need to turn that inventory. Good luck!

In regard to the Avalon, I would like to heap praise on Jon for assiduously noting how low the seating position in Toyota's new generation of sedans has become. To add insult to injury, Toyota New Jockey Architecture has substantially reduced leg room and head room. Taller drivers may simply be forced to look elsewhere. Hopefully TNGA Vol. 2 corrects these glaring deficiencies. For people who can fit inside , the Hybrid's outstanding mpg makes it the obvious choice.

Is it not advisable to put zero down on a lease and simply pay the extra $30/month? Where if you get in an accident and the car is totaled, that lease down payment is gone?
@Yormsane
@Yormsane 3 года назад
I'll take a base Lexus IS over any of its German rivals, which are notoriously over-complex and unreliable. Proven, durable engineering will always win the day for me. Good luck getting any of those German sedans to 100,000 miles without a bunch of expensive dramas en route.

That hybrid Camry for a 66 year old driver is overkill, especially if he is only driving 6,000 miles a year. You are not going to save all that much on gas and get worse power delivery. 25 mpg to 44 mpg over 6000 miles at $2.00 a gallon the price savings is going to be: 6000/44 = 136.36 X $2 = $272 to 6000/25 = 240 X $2 = $480. So each year he saves $480-$272= $208. Over ten years he saves $2080. A hybrid will cost about $4000 more so after 20 years of ownership he will break even - not worth it under any circumstance.
@Ascend777
@Ascend777 3 года назад
Not to mention a used hybrid has a lower resale value than its I4 ICE sibling, which means it's depr is higher. No one wants an imminent battery overhaul.
@kokovox
@kokovox 3 года назад
Why do you think gasoline will cost $2 a gallon in the next 20 years? This sounds naive and not based on history.
@JasonEDragon
@JasonEDragon 3 года назад
If you are going to keep a car for over a decade then a hybrid would be good insurance for the future. Instead of the 8% EV market share by 2030 mentioned here we might find a 80% market share instead. If that happens then several gas stations may close and a person in their 70s (perhaps with health problems) may find themselves having to make longer trips to a gas station in addition to more frequent trips due to the worse mileage. Plus, if he does trade the vehicle in then the hybrid resale value may be better. I wouldn't touch an ICE vehicle any more unless it was a hybrid.

Sell the GTI while resale is high, get the V6 Avalon if you’re keeping it longer than a decade and don’t drive as much (although I’d say look at an Lexus ES due to the comfort and looks), get the Subaru but unless the lease is cheap I’d finance due to the high resale value.
@vikasthakurus
@vikasthakurus 3 года назад
The cars that Toby would like to lease (Subaru, Hyundai, Kia) probably don't make great leases. The manufacturers don't seem to subsidize the leases much (either through an inflated residual value or additional incentives). However, luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes tend to make better lease deals. He could probably lease one of the luxury SUVs (e.g., MBZ GLC300) for the $300 to $400 / month range with no down payment. The luxury manufacturers greatly inflate their residual values and offer greater discounts / incentives, so I have found leasing to be much cheaper for these luxury brands vs. owning.

If you have already a dongle (say like a Tesla - I think it is 35 dollars) for the car’s charger to a N1450 outlet. Is it better to buy a separate charger as you showed, or just use what the car already is supplying? Was that in your tests? (I’m not an expert. Though, I know what Tesla offers.) Just wondering. Love the show!

At 17:45 Gabe mentioned a trade tax credit when trading a vehicle and purchasing a new. You would think that's the case since you already paid tax on that vehicle and that taxes would be paid on the difference in price.....but not in Virginia. You get no tax credit for a trade!!! Taxed on new vehicle purchase price.

@Buc_Stops_Here
@Buc_Stops_Here 3 года назад
Buick Regal GS? It is not a bad car but it depends what you are looking for. It is not a true performance car either but it is the most sporty Buick that had been sold in over 20 years. The reliability has improved to average to slightly above average from its first year of production so it should last.

What EV needs in order to gain a larger customer community is for the industry to collaborate to devise a family of compatible quick exchange power packs with respect to physical configuration and electrical connectivity. Right now, customers living in high density multifamily communities and those with aggressively governing homeowner management boardss, those with need for long distance interstate travel, like sales and manufacturing representatives' cannot consider EV ownership. Quick exchange depots could evolve from former petroleum fueling stations. There are two other major benefits of this energy supply mode. First the overloading of neighborhood electrical distribution grids would be obviated, as major power pack recharging and distribution plants would be located adjacent power generation or clean energy harvesting sources. Also owners would be afforded a measure of protection from technological obsolescence as breakthrough improvement in power density capacity come forth. Another environmental and cost improvement in transport would result from the elimination of take wagons with its inherent empty back hauls with 18 wheelers.

How difficult would it be for thieves to steal the charge cables? Or vandalise?
@boboutelama5748
@boboutelama5748 3 года назад
With proper tools, I can vandalize a whole nation. But vandalize a charging cable is very uncommon. I can't give a definitive answer of "why is it like this", but my 2 cents is because even idiots will realize that they could face major electric shocks by doing stupid stuff like that.

Predictions for EV sales are pointless. There will be an exponential increase in sales when charging times are significantly reduced and battery life is increased both of which are supposedly on the the cusp of realization. No one can accurately predict when that day will arrive but when it does you can throw all your predictions out the window.
