I did a thing! I quit my job recently and got a pretty good vacation payout, so naturally I used that money to invest in my graphic design career and spoiled myself with a brand new Apple MacBook Pro 16" with the M1 MAX chip. The Apple announcement and new MacBook launch caught me by surprise, but I'm so happy I was able to get this beautiful new machine. IT'S SO QUIET!!! @@heyitsbex_ it’s really nice! Over the years I have had the 13inch then the 15inch 2018 MacBook Pro. I think the 14inch for me is the perfect fit as I don’t edit videos but still enough space for every day tasks!

Great video! I don't know if it has already been pointed out BUT you actually can use an extension cord in the new charger as well! Try the old one, I think it's compatible too.

I’ve ordered mine too it comes in December though so we’re still rocking an iMac 🖥 Also can I just say you’re a natural at vlogging style videos and i can tell from how your present yourself and talk that you’ve got a great personality to succeed in RU-vid. I really hope you make more of these videos especially as youre a graphics designer and Just your every day person. Congratulations on the new MBP! You got exactly the same one I did with identical specs. One thing is that you can still use your old extension cord on your new 140w power brick. Just pop off the small part of your new brick and attach the old extension cord. I noticed you didn’t have it attached in your cord bag. I’m using an old extension cord from one of my ancient MacBook Pros on my new power brick.

@@heyitsbex_ Yes, I love it. I also have one of those 16” MBP’s you had from 2019 that you returned. That one always sounds like a jet engine while this one remains quiet. The fans don’t even turn on until it gets to 90C internally and when they do, they are so whisper quiet you probably won’t notice they’re on. The screen is also an incredible mini-LED, a relatively new technology that blows away normal LCD screens with inky blacks that are close to what you get with OLED screens. To me, the quiet and the screen are the best parts of the laptop, excepting its incredible performance. Try out the MBP’s speakers. They are by far the best you will ever hear on a laptop.

Yes! The jet engine is a very great analogy, the 2019 is just so loud! I haven’t even noticed any sound from my new MBP. Thanks for the speaker recommendation, surprisingly I haven’t had any sound come out of it yet… I always have people around or have my AirPods in! Will definitely have to test it out.

Hey, make sure you install the correct version of Adobe tools. There might a separate version for new Macs. You might not need Rosetta to use it.

I’d highly recommend DJI osmo Mobile 5 (or OM5 for short) it’s one of the best tri-pods, holder, stabilizer-ish! You could even do with a used OM3 or 4.

Yeah Apple releases new set of MacBooks every mid-October of every year. It's great that you were still within the return window for the old Intel i9, otherwise you would've lost quite a lot of money cause the value of those significantly dropped right after the keynote event. These M1/M1 Pro/M1 Max chips will smoke all of their Intel predecessors. The performance of these machines are on par with Mac Pros which would've costs 13K-15K.

I think my brain just saw the new phones and figured that was it!! I’m pretty lucky that the timing did end up working out quite perfectly anyway! It was pretty interesting having the editing experience the night before on the i9 compared to the next night on the M1 Max - huuuuuge difference and way more enjoyable experience.

@@lightspeed3858 I use Final Cut Pro! I started out on premiere pro because it was included in my creative cloud subscription, but Final Cut Pro ended up being way easier for me to use.

For sure - Apple has an amazing return policy where you are able to return your items within 15 calendar days of receiving it! Since it took so long to arrive, it was less than 15 days between when I got it and when the new ones came out. It was a stroke of luck it wasn’t a bigger gap, otherwise I would have been stuck with the 2019 version!

I live under a rock too, coz didn’t notice I was supposed to get a MagSafe cable but only got a 2m USB-C to USBC cable. They won’t provide the MagSafe cable unless I go to an Apple Store which is 3 hrs away and the gas cost to get there is now much more than the $49 I would pay to buy a MagSafe cable!

Well, aren't you a little drop of sunshine! Personality shines through. I'm fairly sure you could just yoink that extension cable out of your old charger and slap it into your new one if you wanted. You can buy them from apple, but they haven't changed as far as I know. The one they're selling says it's compatible back to at least 2012. Could double check with apple support. I ordered the 16" max with 64gb ram and 1tb storage. Still waiting for delivery... gotta live vicariously through youtube reviews in the meantime. Good luck with the channel.

What mouse do you use with your MacBook Pro for graphic design? Do you use a tablet?

I mostly just use the track pad believe it or not -- I've gotten so used to it. That being said though, I do like to experiment using my iPad with the apple pencil for illustration type stuff and then switching it over to my laptop. Occasionally, I'll also plug in one of my gaming mice if I want a mouse, but that's rare since I usually move around with my laptop!

I actually thought it was lighter than the 2019 16” MacBook - looked it up and it turns out it’s half a pound heavier! I’m used to it so didn’t notice it at all. I think it’s light 😂 I do love that it’s thick and chunky! Reminds me of my OG 2008 white MacBook!

I still really love it! I have no complaints at all. It never gets hot and I'm able to run all my programs without issue. I really need to start closing things down, but I'm terrible at leaving everything open and running and it still keeps up without issue! I'm super happy with it!

Unfortunately, I’m one of the guys who’s waiting on it to be shipped. Got my 16” M1 Max, 64GB unified memory with 4TB SSD. Apple anticipates on it arriving at the end of December. I hope it’s much sooner but I’m excited either way.

Surprisingly, when I’m on my MacBook I usually just use the trackpad! Occasionally I will use my iPad and Apple Pencil for designing if it’s necessary, otherwise all keyboard and trackpad!

You can use the old extension into the new one and you will have a super long cable. I mean I did that with the 2019 version 😅 Just take the connector out 🤷🏻‍♂️ and put the old one. Maybe it still fits like the one I have.

Graphic designer that treated herself as well🙋‍♀️. As far as Adobe goes, I redownloaded Ps Ai and Id so they can run natively on the Mac without Rosetta. Adobe will recognize that you have an M1 Mac when you download them.

Got mine ships in 6 weeks 😭 64gb 2tb max. Just sold my 2019 16” 5600m half price, the fans were stressing me music recording was inpossible, even with 3 tracks. İt was like a f16 fighter jet🤣. Love your video honest review. 👍

On that 2015 iMac it might be old enough that you could probably upgrade the storage and RAM memory so it could perform faster. It’s a shame that pretty much anything 2017 or newer made by Apple is non upgradable.

That’s a good idea - I should look into that! Thank you :) my big concern is the operating systems being too new so eventually I’ll have to stop updating those.

@@heyitsbex_ The 5k iMacs from 2014 and later are known to run really well even on newer software. I think if you upgrade ram (and storage if necessary) you should definitely stay on the newest software (especially for security reasons)

I live under a rock 😁 With how much I upgraded my 2019 when I ordered it, the cost was very very close.., my MacBook Pro 2019 came in at $4379 CAD, and my MacBook Pro M1Max came in at $4399 CAD.

Both models for what I had ordered actually ended up being the same price! Not much difference at all… maaaaybe $200 if I remember correctly.

It is odd that you had to install Rosetta 2 for the Adobe software. I thought they already migrated to a Native M1 support. You should open Activity Monitor and confirm they are 'Apple' and not 'Intel' under KIND under CPU tab. Congrats, BTW.

I’ll definitely check, thanks! When I opened the apps though they said they were the M1 versions but I could always access the other ones if I wanted to through creative cloud or something.

I sacrificed a lot of sleep to make sure I was on Apple’s website on the 26th when they switched from “pre-order” to buy online and pick up in store 😁 … tried at midnight, 5am, and finally was able to buy online for in-store pickup at 6am! I also just got the base model, as any customizations would have meant it would have to be shipped!

I found my i9 Mac ran very hot and was quite loud with the fans! It would also drop frames when I would edit in Final Cut Pro!

When I would try to playback video in Final Cut Pro to see how it looks, it wouldn’t play through the frames. It would end up being very choppy.

new M1 MacBook Pros - "16" and 14" tonight. The body is squared off and thicker than my 2019 MBP. WHAT??? And it feels cheap, not like the former Airplane Grade aluminum. You knock on it and it feels hollow-ish. And the bottom feet are harder than previous models, almost like a cell phone case that is hard plastic and sort of hits the desk too hard. I am pretty disappointed. Why, Apple, Why?
