2021 Mercedes Benz A250e PHEV review

Mercedes-Benz new versatile A-Class has now gone PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid). A lovely mix of a range-anxiety removing petrol engine and a money/fuel saving EV only motor. It's nippy, flash and drives like an A-Class hatch should.

Just ordered my A250e, I think it's an amazing car. By the way, the battery regeneration from breaking can be turned off for your convenience, so it's not really a negative side. Nice review!

It's "braking" not "breaking". Don't drive a Mercedes without lessons in English.

Great video. I think you meant 0-62mph though. Does it come with the ‘starburst shiny alloy’ wheels too?

Thanks for watching and comment. Maybe 62mph, but similar numbers I would assume (close enough when behind the wheel I feel). The wheels may be an option, but I think NZ is adding AMG kits to most of the range when possible. Thanks again.

3 things that annoyed me about this car are the road noise, gruff engine sound and that weird braking...all of which you mentioned. I haven't dismissed it though, the electric only distance is impressive and can be charged really quickly so it's still well in the running for me.

I checked when the car is hybrid or EV they usually $15000-$20000 more expensive than ICE car, for hybrid probably cost even more for service and risk the battery might failures one day. So for the money you saved from petrol in ten years won’t even cover the gap you prepaid compare from a petrol car . So can anyone tell me what’s the point people buying hybrid and EV at the moment? Thanks

Thanks for watching and comments. Great points but the gap is narrowing price wise, faster off the mark speed, better on brakes around town and if course better on planet when in EV. (still like the V8s though)

5:45 *Actually 1½ Hours to Recharge at a 7KWh Charger {max} - certainly not ½ an hour which would be acceptable, coffee, pee etc. and that will give you a (light foot) extra 30/35 Miles*

Thanks for watching and comments - I agree in real world situations but according to MB press release - 'Optionally, customers can purchase a DC Charging Package ($1990 MRRP), marking the first time this feature has been made available on a Mercedes-Benz PHEV passenger vehicle. This introduces fast DC charging at 24 kW via a Type 2 CCS plug. Using DC charging, it may be possible to charge from 10 per cent capacity to 80 per cent in as little as 25 minutes. In addition, the Charging Package upgrades the AC charging system to 7.4 kW.' 80% seems to be the norm in protecting batteries and charging speed. Cheers again

I got mine last week must say I’m massively disappointed. The petrol motor sounds horrendous and the dsg timing is off. I’ve booked mine in to be checked.

@@TarmacLife I love that you actually go through the UI for energy efficiency like 3:38. Only thing that needs improvement is the microphone. Also If you can talk more like Matt Berry that would be epic.
