Kinda weird people get on this bandwagon ripping on Nissan interiors which are fine, bandwagon which is all it is, when companies like GM just pump out absolute garbage
I’m seriously thinking about buying one I’ve got a SS redline series 2 it’s an awesome car but now I want to leave in garage before the mileage gets high but just can’t think of another car that comes near it’s been excellent and that patrol it’s knocking on my door lol great video 👍
Thirty thousand dollars buys a hell of a lot of petrol, I agree with you Paul I’d buy the Datsun (Nissan) over a Toyota Landcruiser everyday of the week. Can’t wait to see the new Warrior version when it’s released in 2021.
It's likely because we are pretty much the only market they sell RHD in, the rest off the market the sell in is LHD which is something like 99% of their manufacturing runs. Given the low price we pay in Oz compared to other countries, it possibly wasn't financially viable for them to re-tool for such a small RHD market.
I think I’m in the minority but I would want this truck in matte finish, fender flare extensions, and dechromed trim. I like the military and overlanding look even though I would not go beyond medium grade off roads.
Hahahaha ......... the Toyota is "really the only competitor". You've got to be kidding yourself mate. I have travelled across Australia numerous times in a tDV6 Land Rover Discovery 4, and I'd rather spend my time in that than either your Datsun or Toyota any day of the week. I recently travelled from Port Augusta to Adelaide in one of the upper-spec Land Cruisers, and it was the most uncomfortable ride I've had for years. In answer to your question - yes - I'd buy the Datsun before the Toyota any day of the week - but I'd still have a Discovery 4 before either. And I'm told that the new Discovery is even better again - but I haven't been in one of those yet.
Denying the Australian market of the newer infotainment is a big stuff up, much like how RAM hasn't been offering their good interior this whole time - really kills the prospect of even considering this vehicle.
Yep, couldn't agree more, but I heard rumours the updated interior are coming early 2021, as they will be doing super mega big bang launch in 2021 for almost all of their entire line up, new Xtrail, refreshed Navara, new Pathfinder (based on Navara platform), new 400Z, and refreshed interior for Patrol.
Nice to see some love for the Y62 Patrol, been pretty thin on the ground for the last 10 years. I bought the Ti a couple of years ago. I couldn't see the value in the extras you get with the Ti-L. Personally, at around $75k driveaway real world pricing, I reckon the Ti is the best value family vehicle on sale in Australia. Go anywhere, anytime and take all your toys with you. Mines been across the country and tows a 2.5ton van with ease. 1000km days no problem. It's also been used for proper off-roading from Southwest WA to Tassie. Yes there are some faults, the interior is a bit crap and the nanny state electronics give me the shits, but if you want a car that can do anything and everything pretty well, then there's no going past a Patrol.
Totally agree. And not forgetting the current model Ti gets safety upgrades that were only on the previous generation Ti-L. Save that coin and spend it on fuel. :-)
I think depends of the usage of the car. If you're doing off roading, towing etc you would get the Ti and save the cash for all the mods and fuel, but if you do half or more metro driving, then you'd pay the extra for the looks, the luxury amenities, and slightly better comfort.
@@TORTLESSS Very happy with my series 4, it's compliant without being harsh or too floaty. The current series 5 is apparently a bit softer in the suspension which may or may not be a good thing depending on personal preference. The biggest step up from a Y61 is how quiet they are which makes long drives so much less tiring.
I'm a Landcruiser "Fan boy", just sold our Landcruiser 79 dual cab to purchase a 200 series, test drove a new Patrol and ordered a Ti-L. Hearing great things re longevity and reliability of the Patrol, time will tell. Delivery around Feb 2021.
@@Unknwonone that's okay, I sold my 2018 landcruiser 79 dual cab which had a 80s interior. So the y62 is a massive upgrade hahaha. We also have a Rline Tiguan with all the digital screens, fancy dash bla bla and whilst it's pretty cool, we are buying the patrol for a larger family car/tourer/tow car. Yes I agree the interior is dated but it is extremely comfy and so much better than my 79 or a even a 200 Sahara.
Patrol has a rear diff-lock, while the Land Cruiser 200 VX features a "barbie-friendly, a-la-RAV4" type of traction control system - which fails at times - this explains a lot. The Patrol rocks!!! (Driven both as company cars - the Patrol is better in every aspect, apart from resale value...)
Resale is proportional to the purchase price. Patrols sell for the same percentage of the initial purchase price as the cruisers. Both very popular second hand.
I bought my Ti, series 5 in August for $72k new and you can't get the grin off my face. I love the design and don't know what all the BS is about the dash - it looks better than my mates 200's dash, that's for sure. We've just got back from a 4500k trip to the Gulf and it would have to be the smoothest, quietest and most responsive car I've driven. On two occasions on the trip we drove through cold rain - the computer read 10.3L/100 until the rain stopped and the temperature climbed. The worst we got was 13.8 and for 90% of the trip it was 11.1L/100. We ran on 98 but I can't say if the economy was any better than 95 and because I didn't thrash the car I didn't detect any drop in power. All this was done with the car half full of camping gear and a James Baroud camper on the roof. For all you guys who've had the LandCruiser injection, I'd advise you go and drive a 62 with your eyes open and be totally honest. Just admit - this car is that little bit better than a LC200!
Very nice! And great price too. And also glad to hear about the fuel economy - I think the only reason the claimed average is so high is because testing includes city driving. Take that out of the mix and the V8 is barely turning over at highway speeds.
@@richard4136 Hi Richard. I bought the car new from Beecham Motors at Caboolture in Qld. Covid had hit and sales had slumped so I took advantage of that. It had 17ks on the clock and they threw in the towbar, mats & bonnet protector etc. BUT, it was plated 6 months earlier. I also paid cash. Car has now done 12000ks & I love driving it.
@@CarExpertAus I really have a good chuckle when people lose sleep over the fuel economy of these large 4WDs. When you take into consideration the weight, what they can do, where these vehicles can venture and the price point of $80,000 - $100,000 for the Y62 Patrol, people are tossing and turning over fuel economy. Maybe get a RAV4 Hybrid instead. :) :) :) :)
This is the best car review channel by far! The reviews are detailed and informative. Paul Maric and the team are doing a great job!🔥🔥 Please do a review of a Jeep Grand Cherokee soon!
Here's the review: No after sales support in Australia. Slightly better than a Land Rover for reliability but not as good as a new LR Discovery or Defender in terms of on and off road performance. However, great if you look at the specifications on paper. The problem with that is, paper is only good for 2 things when off roading: maps and toilet paper. ;) Hence the reason a Patrol or Land Cruiser makes much more sense in this country.
Good review. I have seen a tow test between this and the Diesel LC200 taking a full size van up to the top of Hotham. Dollars per KM the Nissan was lower. Factor in the service and maintenance Diesel over Petrol (Turbos, what turbos?) and the story gets better, and as others have pointed out, $30k gets you plenty of fuel. Around the city, it is going to be expensive to run, but if I was buying one it wouldn't be for that. If I needed a new towing and touring car to lap Australia tomorrow, I reckon it would have to be the Nissan. The negative was the third row space and the seats not going completely flat. A reference for what good looks like for third row and seat stowage is the Land Rover Discovery 4 from ~2010 onwards, the best I have seen in my humble opinion.
Patrol 3rd row was a negative? have you even tried a LC200? the LC200 3rd row folds to the side, which is a disaster. After they are folded, the width of the trunk wouldn`t even fit two travel cases. the space becomes useless.
I took a Patrol in January fell in love with it and ordered one at the same time was delivered on the 14th Jan so love it we live in the south west and it still amazes me the comfort and features a bit dissapointing we didnt get the upgrades in the dash but first new car I have bought and if needed I would buy it again over a Landcruiser
You’ll never convince the Toyota fan boys 🤣 We bought a Ti 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. So quiet and so much power to boot. Main reason for our purchase is that we needed to tow our van and we’re not spending $30k more for a Cruiser. Also the “dusting” issues on Cruisers are a bit of a concern. There are aftermarket accessories to change the infotainment which I’ll look into. Tesla tablet style with Apple CarPlay for less than $1500 👌🏼
I’m a Toyota fan and I looked at patrol and I reckon it’s a beauty $91 thousand against Sahara $ 137 thousand no-brainer And harrops supercharge kits takes the patrol to 405 kW with great feel economy so I’ll be buying the patrol😎
I am considering buying one,I love Toyota's, but the y62 is fantastic value for money and they really dont use much more fuel than the diesel 200series.
Toyota is overpriced. Amazed how many people are forking out $$$$ for Hilux or cruiser. No thank you. you can waste your money. Will take the Patrol over cruiser any day.
100% buy this over the landcruiser. 27000 is a big difference. Love the petrol engines, really wish they would start putting decent petrol engines into the dual cab utes. The patrol is a great example of why they should.
People that comment on petrol being no good, really have no idea how the modern technology works in petrol engines and are stuck in the past, the big chev ram gets the same fuel burn as the shit box 79 when it has to try and keep up to the chev.
I am buying a patrol simply because its the heaviest SUV around at almost 3 tonne. I checked out some others in the 2,000-2350kg range and they are just too light in their quest for fuel economy although a lot of them are bloody nice inside for a cheap price like the 2021 ssangyong rexton. If you search 'vehicle weight crash' you can see what two 5 star rated cars hitting each other when one is 500kg heavier is like. Not pretty for the lighter vehicle. Also monash uni do real crash statistics to show which vehicles are safe and the correlation between weight and injuries/fatalities is very shocking. So simply for the safety of a huge, high, long and heavy vehicle in protecting my family if we ever happen to be involved in an accident. Its worth it for me. Upgrading from a mitsubishi 380 sedan by the way. I will be getting a 2022 patrol with the upgraded interior. I do not want to see that fake woodgrain for the next 20 years haha
If you buy this over a LandCruiser you’re blind and crave the ridicule of family, friends and society at large. You’ve given up on life and will probably drive this to the shops to get milk in your tracksuit and slippers.
@@larjkok1184 salty landcruiser drivers 😂😂😂 some real bone head comments here 😂😂 patrols walk all over landcruisers any day of the week, you blokes have just been tricked into paying more for the lesser car 😂🤦♂️
Good video. Infotainment system may be a little dared, not everyone wants to hook up phones and the rest. Some of us are old school and just want basic radio, cd player etc. It is individuals choice. I would definitely go the patrol over the toymotor (toyota). Here in nz, we pay around the 120 to 130 thousand for one of those. The legroom right in the back. Not much room for over 5 foot 6 people. In saying that. Still a dam nice wagon
Nice review. I’d have the Nissan everyday of the week. As good as the LC200 V8 is, it’s not in the same ballpark as the Nissan petrol V8. Additionally, the Nissan’s off-road ability is as good as, and in some situations, superior to the Tojo (no shortage of RU-vid vlogs showing this).
So I watched the video and wondering why the LDV D90 Diesel biturbo still looks better and much cheaper than this? Is there a D90 review?! And how can you love something you can even fit adults in the rear of because the D90 beats it on that too!
Yes mate.. Thanks for the nice review.. But I like the 90's "dated" traditional dashboard designs.. They are MUCH better than the modern "touchscreen" digital dashboard designs of today. The new designs these day are terrible..
The styling updates look brilliant. Real shame they did not update the 1990s interior, but at least it is practical. I’d take this every day of the week over a Landcruiser. But, getting Landcruiser owners to change their Mind is like asking a Trump voter to vote for Bindon 😂
The look is still outdated here in Australia while the USA and around the world the interior is different, we don't have many cars here and they are all very expensive because we still use the right steering wheel For Land Cruiser there is a 5.7 liter V8 with the body bag, and we also don't have it here in Australia
In reality it’s easy to pick on things like the design and give an opinion either way. But for me who is in the market for a big tow vehicle I can’t see how you can pick anything else for the money. The die hard Toyota fans will say their usual “you need a diesel in the outback??” but as you say the power is unmatched and fuel economy is equal. As for looks, like you I like it as it looks fresher than the prehistoric 200 series!!
2019 patrol was $74,000 when first released!!! And now the dealers want $105,000??? Top spec! WTF!, rear CV drivershaft? And no rear differential?? Not worth the Money!!! These Bloody dealers!!
I’ve owned both brands. Both good. Both capable, reliable etc. price point a major issue on the Toyota. Simply not justified against the patrol. The Patrol is a real alternative to the Cruiser and I would go this route. That petrol v8 with an exhaust. All day long gents...
93k what a waste of money 🤦♂️ even worse nearly 140k for a Sahara WTF!!! Just get a top of the range Isuzu MU-X LS-T Tour Mate for 50k. 4wd, 7-seats, a 900L cargo space with 5 seats up, one of the most reliable diesel engines with more than enough power 130kw/430nm torque can tow 3T plus you get a bullbar, weathershields, bonnet protector, tow kit and electric brake controller
Front of the car looks ok, everything else looks dull and dated.. But then again, people who will drop 100k on a car like this don’t care about design... They just need a car to tow their $300k boat 😎
The only downside of the Patrol is that it doesn’t have a solid rear axle which very important if you’re going off-road. Except for that it is better in almost every department as compared to the Land Cruiser. Or maybe the long term reliability won’t be as good as the Land Cruiser. Cruisers are one of the toughest vehicles built.
Sorry, Sorry Nissan Aust. You have missed a big opportunity to capaitise Nissan Aust, you have missed out, not giving us a full updated version, Toyota will win, sad to say!
The Armada (the American patrol) has a much nicer interior. What idiot accountant decided to give my Aussie friends a 10 year old interior? Seriously Nissan, get it together...
nissan patrol / armada needs a cummins or duramax diesel engine and that car will be something. this 5.6 gas engine is not good. this current engine 5.6 gas is a absolutely deal-breaker and critical mistake. and one more thing, aramada needs a patrol's full scale drivetrain many things are missing on armada which is on the patrol.
I’m currently in a 2014, 200 series cruiser, love the product, can’t fault it other than the typical diesel rattling sound, nevertheless.. i do love it. So I drove a 2018 Patrol just recently and it seriously astounded me.. so smooth and quite, yet with an amazing tough sounding tune under the bonnet when putting the boot into it.. it’s quite a unique driving feel as appose to the Toyota. Patrol sounds a bit like old school.. And yes I did find the trim slightly dated, but you know, it’s so luxurious that you tend to forget about that dated look. Besides, in my opinion, it’s more less problematic as appose to all the higher tech stuff that sometimes a more prone to twitches. Moral of the story, cruiser is going for sale and replacing it with Patrol without a second thought, I can’t wait to own this beast 🙃😎
@@mixalis6168 because they just did a facelift in like forever and didn't change interior. maybe next gen might be full makeover after next gen. land cruiser
why would do they charge you guys for different color paint? i would understand if you wanted a metallic or whatever, but if its is just an other color it seems crazy
definitely over priced vehicle - pathetic interior low quality silly little low resolution screen - this vehicle suites farmers who are used to driving tractors
I wonder if this generation of Patrol is still as tough as previous Patrols? Or has it gone soft. The open gap under the wheel well that exposes part of the engine is a concern. As this could cause all sorts of problems with stone damage if used off road frequently. Is it as beefy underneath and protected like Patrols of old (or the Landcruiser)? It would have been good to know.
It’s been around for ten years. It has a hardcore off-road following. I have not heard of any trending problems regarding the exposed engine or lack of toughness.
I am a HUGE fan of Nissan's VQ/VK engines. I do not care about the interior. I too am concerned with the open gap under the wheel well. This is the second vehicle I've seen a review of recently (don't remember what the other vehicle was) that has that open wheel well design. I hope that it is not a cost-cutting trend for the future. The only thing I don't like about it is the open wheel well.
I have a 2010 200 and been thinking of upgrading to a 2018-2019 VX, but I'm slowly starting to like the look of these. I think a test drive might be in order. Thanks for the review mate.
It's likely because we are pretty much the only market they sell RHD in, the rest of the market they sell in is LHD which is something like 99% of their manufacturing runs. Given the low price we pay in Oz compared to other countries, it possibly wasn't financially viable for them to re-tool for such a small RHD market.
That system is only available in the up spec version in the Middle East. its spec level above the TiL. The US don't get it either and that's the biggest market.
In the middle east ..... Oh boy, they are legendary. If you own one it means you have made it in life They are compared to be as the same level as a Benz... Pretty absurd really...
If I was in the market to buy a Nissan Patrol, I'd be hanging out for the dash/infotainment to be updated. I'm sure the Nissan Patrol would still have the price advantage over the Toyota Landcruiser when that update arrives here in Australia.
I really want to buy this suv, but i told the dealership near my place to inform me when the updated interior is available here. The decision for not making the updated interior available for everyone at the same time is a very bad decision. Nissan is losing potential buyers because of this. I personally know 3 friends who decided to go for Landcruser because the interior of patrol is not yet updated here in the Philippines.
So I saw a dark blue metallic one turn up dropping off a marketplace item. And I'm in love. Looked amazing. I actually thought it was a new landcruiser.
Hey Paul definitely now swapping my everest for this and canceling the Gr sports order!! Interior is not so much issue as it gets too complicated with the tech
No Paul, nothing wrong with you. If I were to choose between two gigantic SUVs with jurassic interiors, I'd still pick this. No use to be too conscious with your fuel economy when you're buying an SUV that's this huge and heavy. That diesel LC200 should be more costly to maintain as well in the long run.
The y62 would have to be the best value car on the market,I love landcruisers, but the patrol excellent value for money and I would buy one in a heartbeat.
@@craigdavid6668 The LX-570 is old school non direct injection engine and is not in the same class as the Patrol. It uses heaps more fuel than the Patrol with less power.
Love the big NA petrol been doing the hard yards for a long time, off road it is awesome traction control system, the smart AWD system for towing is the best towing off bitumen to grass or grass across bitumen. Comfortable, quiet, roomy.
