It's called an unction. I get them all the time and I chalk it up to God because I just wake up and have this deep idea and I know what it feels like. It's why I am doing cut flowers, all of the sudden and prior to this I felt I had a black thumb and I killed everything. but thanks to Laura and Aaron and their channel, I learned a great deal and I jumped on board. I'm doing containers for the first few years to ensure I know what I am doing. Like you I live on a small hill that can get windy and a little crazy. My Guinee, George gets upset and immediately jump up on the roof of my car for comfort.

"Do you guys ever feel so strongly about something? Like you think of something and then you're like YES! Let's do it!" Yes, yes, yes! I feel that way about cut flower farming. Been landscaping for others and planting up my own yard just for fun for years now. As I sit here and look at 40 empty acres. I found your channel, and I'm going for it! I already have a jump start! I already have the land, the tractor, and a jump on tubers, bulbs, fillers. I feel like I am already almost there. I'm going to see what I can do with what I have in my landscape this year. Then next year, we're going for it 100%! Garden Answer made it look fun. YOU made it look possible!!

Yaaaaay! I'm sooooo glad you did this video! I'm excited to see I ordered some things you did! (B/c I'm completely new to this) But I would love if you did a video on everything you're growing next year... because I'm binging your old videos, & every time I watch a video I'm like "Oh you grow that too?!?" Hahaha! I just discovered goatsbeard/astilbe this year after seeing it on Instagram. It was a pink variety that is green until it blooms, & it looks like it just GLITTERS! They didn't know the variety but I think I found it or something similar (called younique silvery pink astilbe) I hope! 🤞 I ordered green twister seeds from bakercreek! I am just starting small this first year to see if I'm even able to sell anything! & if it goes well, I'll invest a lot more next year... (I'll also get a business license & buy wholesale!) I bought tons of seeds, & then I purchased 10 peonies, 6 dahlias, 3 roses, 1 hydrangea, 100 ranunculus, & 50 tulips, & 1 astilbe. ⬅️ Makes me think of the Christmas song! Haha! *I say so too much in my videos too! & I'm the same way when it comes to some things.... some things I want to plan (usually when it comes to anything I have to PURCHASE, I'm like "well what if _" or "what if _" I think I overanalyze because I was raised very poor... ) but when it comes to other things, like going on a little weekend getaway, or doing something, I'm like I wanna do it NOW!

Yes, we should talk websites, rather would love to hear you talk about yours. ;) Don't be deterred by comments against the gooseneck loosestrife. It also has a beautiful foliage color in the fall. Be sure it has boundaries; a plastic edge or something. I can never keep astilbe wet enough, site yours with that in mind. Go for hydrangea (primarily paniculata or arborescens hybrids and cultivars-- don't cry over the macrophyllas!).

Other good sources for perennials - Pioneer Gardens, Walters Gardens, and Spring Meadow Nursery (for woodies). Plus there are several good ones you can easily grow from seed: Achillea, Echinops, Knautia, Asclepias, Rudbeckia (if you'd don't get aster yellows) to name a few. Oh and get some thornless raspberry for foliage - Joan J is a good variety.

Next year I'm starting my flowerfarm, and what I am going to do is to store all the rainwater that is comming of the roof. There are some books by Brad Lancaster who wrote all about rainwater harvesting. I know there are some states that don't allow rainwater harvesting. I hope you're not in one of them. I love the perrenials by the way!

I’m so glad you uploaded I needed a little break from reality today! Your perennial order looks awesome and I can’t wait to see your vision come to life next year. Could you plant half your wild flower garden with the regular wild flower seed and the other half with the deer resistant variety. I think keeping those seeds wet in the first 2 weeks so they germinate is going to be the most important part of having it be big and gorgeous like you want.

I totally agree- water is going to be the game changer for the wildflowers. I'm probably going to sprinkle BOTH on for saturation. Plus something to keep the deer away- I've been looking into some solar powered electric fencing!

Oh! Also - I've heard that in Wildflower fields that sometimes it works if you plant the ones the deer like in the center, then surround them with the yucky ones (yucky ones - AS IF!) then sometimes, if the wind blows just right, and if you plant during a full moon, and then stand on you right foot for 3 days straight - THEN there's a CHANCE the deer won't eat them! maybe, just maybe...

I don't agree with the invasive species comment! Beautiful plants that perform well are tempting, maybe select a sterile cultivar if possible? Loosestrife may not be a huge issue, but just because plants aren't on the "banned" list doesn't mean it won't potentially degrade surrounding habitats.

Achillea is pronounced like the Greek warrior Achilles, famous for his heroic part in the Trojan War. It’s was written that Achilles used this plant as an herbal remedy for his soldier’s wounds. This is also where we get the name for the phrase ‘Achilles heel’, which in the end, the wound to his heel was what killed the famous Greek warrior. My horticulture professor at The Ohio State University was great at telling these plant nomenclature tales.

I'm planning on moving next winter and I've been buying seeds super early because I see so many things being sold out far earlier than typical (and some varieties not showing up at all). Random things you wouldn't expect to be sold out are as well🤷. Safe not sorry is how I'm approaching my life over the next 24months as I transition into a new home, garden and business.🤷

Nicole! Did you get your hair done? Looks lovely! So onto flower things: What type of hydrangea are you thinking of planting in your field? Regarding just having a feeling about something-I bet a lot of us feel that way, when the stay at home order first started back in March our travel plans to France were thwarted (so sad, I know) but instead I had rented an excavator to create a sunken garden, (because if I can't eat macaroons while staring at the Eiffel tower, obviously renting an excavator is the next best thing?) So a lot of time an effort was put into it, and then ultimately I decided that I want to pursue flower farming, and not landscaping, so for the past two months I have been talking about moving the plants and filling it in, because that area is ideal for more cut flower space. No one agreed with me and everyone else loved the sunken garden, but the thing is, I wasn't in love with it. So I woke up one day, and told the naysayers that it was getting filled in, and it was going to be a flower field, and that was that. It was a decision that I did think about (since I often do make impulsive decisions, but mostly when it comes to plant shopping, who can say no?), but ultimately it just had to be done, because it just felt right, and since I started filling it in, I feel a sense of calm that I am headed in the right direction. Power to you and your hydrangea field! Growing flowers is definitely a type of magic, and it can't really be described, but I do think it is just a feeling like you say. Happy planting! (didn't realize this comment would be a novel)

@@FlowerHillFarm it both seeds and spreads by rhizomes. When I first had it I controlled it by deadheading pretty sucessfully. Since you will use it as a cut flower that will help. I have 3 patches of it now but am in the process of digging it out of one bed. I need the space to grow other things. Have you ever thought about putting in some snowberry or coralberry bushes? The berries are not available until late summer into fall but they last nicely in a vase and are no fuss to grow.
