It’s an auto cycle. I just got that same one, without the heated/cooled seats, a couple weeks ago. You were spot on with all your comments. It’s ridiculous and impractical but so much fun. It’s become my daily driver except on rainy days. It’s the most fun you’ll have on 3 wheels.

I rented two last week for a short road trip w/fam. My first impression was it did not feel like quality (auto trans). VERY hot in hot weather. Seat was comfortable. Totally cool design. Fairly decent storage behind each seat (about the size of two mailboxes). To be fair, mine was not the R (it was the SL).

Trike- has 2 wheels in the back , not in the front :) Spyder - has 2 wheels in the front .

@@sileniu Tricycle is greek for 3 circle. Any three wheel vehicle/bike/toy is a trike. Spyder generally refers to a convertible version of a car. For Can-Am Spyder is a model name not a wheel layout.

@@kylegifford546 Search Trike vehicle on google and you will find 1 - 2 layout ( 1 wheel in front 2 wheels in back ). Polaris - Slingshot is a car with 3 wheels. Can-am - Spyder is a motocycle with 3 wheels . Slingshot is more of a....low low low budget ATOM . Atleast in this situation... they are both vehicle :) have a nice day

If you are worried about traction, there is a modification you can do that makes it 4 wheels. You then have a regular kind of steering over the point and launch feel that you might have now. The lag between the front and rear steering and power. The conversion kit is around 12 grand for the r type, 10ish give or take for the non r type kit. DDMWorks sells the kits along with a couple other places.

Did a motorcycle trip through the rocky mountains in BC, Canada and we came across a guy doing a tour in a slingshot WITH a little trailer on the back. After watching this video, it just blows my mind more that he was TOWING something through tight mountain turns and managed to stay with our group of people and we would keep seeing him at our stops down the road! I have never driven one of these but it definitely sounds like an experience. Just wanted to tell that story because it seems you certainly CAN do long distance in it, but it just never occurred to me at a gas station stop to ask him just how squirrely it might be on tight mountain roads!

After 25,000 miles in my Slingshot, with several multi-day excursions including one for 33 days and 4,400 miles, I can assure you it's not squirrelly at all. Even my road-race-winning pal on two wheels can't keep up with me in the tighter twisties. It's a total blast to drive.

Nice overview of the slingshot. Really wish you had thrown it into some twisties, that is where the slingshot really shines. No, its not a motorcycle and will not ever have the speed/acceleration and handling of one. I will say the slingshot is one of the funnest toys I have ever owned. Also when trying to miss potholes or objects just aim for the object going under the center of your seat.

You blip the throttle when you downshift on bikes to stop the rear tire from chattering. Or you get better with the clutch! I wonder if it feels comparable to a snowmobile in the turning aspect.

Tires make a HUGE difference. I had all three Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, which take the twisties like glue. Just before heading out for a 33-day 4,400-mi excursion I needed to replace my rear and decided to go with a Continental Extreme Contact Sport. I couldn't stand it-fishtailing even on light curves. After two days I stopped at the nearest America's Tire to get the Michelin put back on-having wasted $400 on the Conti. The rest of the trip was back to pulling g's in the corners, and beating my motorcycle road racer buddies to the top of the mountain.

Yep I coowned one a few years ago and the deal was I had to supply my own tire when i drove it.I got a 330 series tire off a wrecked porsche for like 100 dollars and man it made a huge difference.

OC: I'm not in the market for one yet but maybe in a few years..I think the term for the vehicle type is called Autocycle. It's the classification created so that people without the +M licenses can still drive it. One question that I can ask since you had it from Polaris for a for a few days that you can't normally check on your standard First Rides, How are the headlights at night?

I knew exactly what he was talking about having to dress for the season. In Houston it is 80% humidity and 100 F in the summer and 40 F in the winter with everything in between.

For the hot daysi have a bead-style seat cover which circulates the air under my butt really well, and I use a wet vest for my torso. Two of the days on my 33-day excursion last fall were at 111° and, with my long sleeved white shirt on, the combination was like having air conditioning in the Slingshot.

I had a 2021 slingshot R auto and hated it. As soon as you touch the brakes it starts down shifting. Lots of noise in the rear end and the brakes are horrible.

generally you want to be closer to the pedals then that, you never want to fully lock out your leg just to engage the clutch, think of it kind of like if you had to take your whole hand off the bar just to grab the clutch on a bike, it can be done but isnt very efficient. just a little tip if you want to do more car style videos.

In Cali we don't have to wear a Helmet or any safety gear for a Slingshot lol Also you can get a Turbo Kit or LS Swap to go faster than the standard speed of a Slingshot. I customized mine to go faster.. just make sure you pay extra for the 4 piston setup calipers. Also, you can get a Slingshade Hard Rooftop with the wing doors. You can drive a Slingshot in the rain and block the sun's heat.

If you haven't driven a motorcycle I would not recommend starting with a side car; it takes some getting used to. If you have/like motorcycles it probably makes more sense to have a motorcycle as you can remove the side car if you want. The slingshot is going to be safer, more comfortable, and likely a less bumpy ride, more practical than most bikes (still not practical).

Impossible. It's 3 wheeled design makes it a motorcycle so it's not required to meet crash safety ratings or even have airbags or roll over protection. Throw a 4th wheel on it and the rules around it change completely, it becomes a car that has to meet much higher regulations in every way. That's literally the biggest reason it's designed with 3 wheels. 4 would clearly be better. But then add 20,000 to the price tag.

OC... Now that you have driven the slingshot... You need to find a Vanderhall to drive. The difference is that the Vanderhall is front wheel drive where as the slingshot is rear wheel drive. Also there is the old school one, the Morgan. I was looking at them two years ago but did not purchase. However, if I were to buy one it would be the Vanderhall. It just has that classic look to it and if I had even more $$ I would look at the Morgans.

on the clutch/shifter, yes, that is something you would judge in a manual car. The manual shifter in some economy car is going to feel very different than the manual in say a Porsche. I've driven cars that as you shifted, it was a long mushy throw and you were not entirely sure if you had it in gear before you let the clutch out.

you can get different heights of the wind screen, i think it's three different sizes. I will give you props for sticking with the stick. but as some one who lives in Denmark and automatic is an upgrade option unless the car is less than 4 years old, i had to laugh a little :) I wish that the slingshot wasn't considered an "exotic", we have no resellers of it in our country so it needs to be imported

You can get used models in the 10 to 20k range--but after co sharing a 2016 model--I would only get the newer models--it is worth the extra bucks if you want comfort and better handling--plus if you do not get the heated or cool seats--keep a towel with you cause the seats will either fry or freeze you. But you are right getting the ones most folks want puts you in the 30 to 35k range--I just paid 35k for a CX-30 Turbo--but I have another good freind and we are talking about coowning one together to offset the price--you can do that if you have responsible freinds and each carry your own insurance.That is probably the best way to have it because most folks will not use it as much as you think--HWYs are great on the weekends--not so great when busy and you are near 18 wheelers and crowded HWYS with idiots.

The Slingshot itself seems really cool. But, it also seems like you could buy a convertible for nearly the same price. If I want to get looked at, I’ll just drive around in a chunky cheez outfit.

Respect to motorcyclist but slingshot should offer an optional detachable roof even if it’s a fabric one that can handle the elements especially the rain. Cause the defeat of the bike is it sucks on rain! I feel safer riding a two wheel motorcycle on a rain than riding a slingshot.

OC - If you ride a motorcycle, should always drive a car with a stick shift gearbox. Gearboxes can feel different between manufacturers and age, would be great to be sequential and not H gate

@@amickey91 In the rain you get wet. :/ BUT if you're prepared for that it's not terrible. I did six hours in 55° pouring rain around the Olympic Peninsula, but wearing a full rain suit I kept warm and [mostly] dry. Still smiling when I got to the motel.

I've generally had to replace my rear tire every 5-6K miles. At ~$400 each that's just the cost of having lots of fun on the twisty roads.

Great job using a manual, but the dealer should if told you not to downshift like a car, it hurts the belt, just go into neutral and use your brakes, not gears. I own a 2019 and love mine!

Oc deffo wouldn't mind one of these as a weekend driver. Also manual cars deffo have different qualities of gearboxs. Some cars are just trash simply cuz they have shit transmissions. Add to that if someone isn't used to manual and your jerking all over the shot. Gotta say u did a awesome job to say u drive auto cars.

Quick questions, how reliable are they in terms of things breaking down? Like do I have to bring it in all the time to get omitting fixed? Also, any recommendation for a slingshot. I don't care much about speed. I care more about the outdoor experience so I am fine with a cheaper option.

That thing should not be categorized as a motorcycle. It has a steering wheel and pedals just like a car. It's just a three wheeled convertible. A trike is a motorcycle, not a slingshot.
