VAG is definitely putting that Porsche designed EA825 twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 to use. There’s been some version of it available in at least one model from almost every car brand they own since 2016. Several of the brands under VAG have multiple models using a version of the EA825 engine. Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche and VW all have one or more models with this 4.0 liter V8 but tuned by their own engineers for different performance. Before EA825 engine came to market the Audi designed EA824 twin turbo 4.0 liter TFSI V8 was put in a lot of different vehicles too. There’s even a diesel version of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the EA824 & EA825 V8 engines are the most produced 8 cylinder engines from VAG’s brands.

Years ago, who would have ever thought that a '4.0' liter V-8 could sound that good?

Hi Motoman ... I hope you are feeling better these days ... by the way a note: you mentioned ‘Sports/Race Tex’ as a fancy way to say Alcantara, not entirely true .. Alcantara is actually the supplier of the material ... as of late 2019 .. they are no longer supplying Porsche which affect all Porsche models built for 2020MY ... the new material ‘sport tex’ from a different supplier ... and it’s different even though it has a similar feel ... it’s suppose to be more hard wearing than Alcantara .. and if you driven older Porsche’s (996/997/991) with this material you will know it doesn’t age very well especially on steering wheel and seats, and in hot climates and from my experience it doesn’t look good after normal usage in a car. I hope the new material ages better, may be will get it on my next car .. but I’m sticking to leather for the moment. Also you mentioned the acoustic glass, the reason they do this (which I think should be standard on this level of vehicle) is because the acoustic glass blocked out certain frequencies (wind noise and road noise), but it’s actually doesn’t insulate from power train noise, because they are on a different frequency, it’s all to do with the material sandwiched between the 2 panes of glass (acoustic laminate). So even though you can hear the engine in high revs, you still need this feature on a premium car ... and it should be standard not optional .. I think Porsche are being cheeky with 100k ‘super SUV’.

On vehicles that cost as much as this does with it’s base price of $110k it should come standard with things like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go plus Emergency Braking, Front and Rear Parking Sensors with Surround View and Emergency Braking in reverse. Then there’s things like Heated and Cooled Seating and Navigation with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto that should be standard on higher trim models like the GTS. I can’t think of another vehicle manufacturer that makes so many things optional especially when many of the optional features are standard on vehicles costing 1/4 of the price.

Every single luxury brand does this. It is what it is. At the end of the day, most people are buying these cars for the performance aspect, not the cooled seats.

That’s too much money for a GTS. I got a turbo lightly optioned that stickered for 135,000

alcantara, while nice, never wears well, I'd go houndstooth option without hesitation
@lukaposeidon8490
@lukaposeidon8490 4 года назад
But alcantara's better tho. It will wear out in a few years but question is if you keep this car for a few years and even if you do is it really a problem to change it on a this expensive car? I thought the same as you, but when you think about it alcantara's better in a lot of ways: feels better than leather on the steering wheel, is better in winter or summer, holds you better in place etc. Don't know why porsche doesn't offer cooled seats with it tho. While you need it less with a material like that, you feel like you are missing out not having cooled seats in a way too expensive and high performance suv that's a higher class and also a porsche. Also considering that in a normal non coupe cayenne you can get both heated and cooled seats front and back.
@macstone9719
@macstone9719 4 года назад
Oh yes! The coupe style does the Cayenne really well, which cannot be said about the competition. My very first car, 1972 Porsche 914, had houndstooth seats. I like that. And I want the plane with it ;-) .

Great review M, I am aware that you have addressed this in a video already, but do you know when Inside the Motoman Studio will return concerning the current situation? Went through all of season 2 thus far on Spotify and looking forward to new episodes!

First off, Inside the MotoMan Studio is by far what I miss the most during the multiple challenges we have experienced during the first half of 2020. When it will return is tough to say as all of it is out of my control. The biggest hurdle is when will the guests be comfortable doing in person interviews again. My hope is sooner rather than later as it is thing that I do that I enjoy the most.

The only problem with the GTS trim of Porsches is that they are really S trim according to the VIN with a bunch of extras. I'm not saying they aren't great I'm just saying, if you buy or lease one, keep it for a bit!

Nice but it has a lot of fluff, I 💘 my S and that's cool enough for me because the Interstates (70mph) near me are always packed and I don't have The Autobahn near me for GTS/Turbo speed! I've enjoyed and watched 08/22/2020. Thanks for posting/sharing @MotoManTV

I know you’re only showing/discussing the vehicle that was provided to you but based on the comments you’re leaving a lot of viewers believing it takes $160k to own this car. In reality you can build a very nice GTS for $130k which is significantly less

Great vid. I have a question. I have porsche 911 and now I'm thinking of getting a car with more seats. I'm thinking Macan S(2022), Cayenne coupe S, and Panamera Sport Turisumo. Which one would you recommend and why? Thanks!

So is the GTS the Cayenne model to buy? Following on from that, is it the better choice compared to the X5M that’s in the garage.......?

I am just curious: Is the German Numberplate of the car S-CA 8686? Great Review! - Including the traditional options game.
@MotoManTV
@MotoManTV 4 года назад
While, yes this car was on S numberplates, I don't recall the exact number. If you have an eagle eye, you can see the number on the road tax disc in the lower right hand corner of the windscreen.

@@MotoManTV I tried it and I failed. It could be the number from some inside shots, but no chance for me to realy confirm that :-) - The green label is called "Umweltplakette/Feinstaubplakette". There are 3 different types which show if you are allowed to access a certain areas in the city or not. Old Diesel have a yellow or red - with that you are banned from certain areas. Green is the best at the moment. There is a plan for a even better one in blue.

In a vacuum, this is a great vehicle. But, given that this costs MORE than X6M Competition and a GLE63S Coupe, it's overpriced and underperforming. You could actually get an X6M Comp + a track day miata or cayman for the price of this thing. Absurd.
@MotoManTV
@MotoManTV 4 года назад
Keep in mind, the car featured in this episode was built as a display of what could be added to these cars which added A LOT to the price. The actual price is around US$110,000. The X6 M Competition starts at US$117,000. The XFIVE M I mentioned in this episode is US$135,000!!!!!
@samsharma9207
@samsharma9207 4 года назад
@@MotoManTV The X5M Comp and X6M Comp are only at the $135k mark if, just like this GTS, every single available option is selected. Thus, there continues to be a $20-30K price difference. Even with that price premium, the performance of this GTS is an order of performance behind. Porsche SUVs are just getting beat across the board. A Macan Turbo gets beat by an X3M Comp. A base Cayenne gets beat by the 40i, an S beat by the M50i -- all BMWs either priced similarly or less. Need a $170K turbo to match or exceed a $120K X5M or GLE63S. Not to hate on Porsche, but car reviewers rarely do actual side by side price comparisons.

Sam Sharma BMW? Seriously? I have lived through 2 BMWs and never again, the most unreliable and expensive brand to maintain I could think of. The amount of “unscheduled” maintenance these car need is mind boggling. On top of that their recent styling doesn’t work for me at all, wouldn’t touch a BMW with a 10’ pole.

@@samsharma9207 I just purchased this GTS coupe and waiting for my July delivery date and price with limited options was 124Kusd Yes, there are a few SUVs now with much more HP for straight off the line speed. None of those felt nearly as great overall driving dynamics, quality, and class than the GTS. By the way, a simple performance tune for $2K will make the GTS FASTER than the turbo model. Last point, Ive had owned a 2010 Panamera 4S with V8 and then my next car was a 2017 BMW M6 convertible. The M6 (550Hp) had 125hp more than the 4S (425HP) and I missed the Panamera for years later....yes M6 was a beast off the line but a boat around corners. You also have the Porsche brand and the emotions it brings vs an everyday BMW or Audi....both make SUVs with more HP. I had way more compliments on the 4S than I ever did on the M6.

160k is too much. X5MC, G63, or a SVA/SVR Range Rover all come to mind before this. Most of the car is just options lol.
