I have had the Cloud Up 2 for the last couple of years, until one of the poles broke last summer. I always used it by myself, and found it was too big for me. Since then I have used a true 1 P tent, and it is just horrible. Now I am considering getting the Cloud UP 1, because as others have mentioned, this is actually a 1.5 person tent. and one of the only ones on the market. Looking forward to getting the Cloud Up 1.
This is one of the few 1p tents that is really a 1.5p tent which I wish were more common. I hate leaving my pack outside so I want a bit of extra room to fit it inside without having to carry a 2p tent. I wish naturehike would add a guy loop halfway up the fly on the sides, along with a matching inner tent clip (like how they do it at the bottom) so that you can pull the walls out a bit and open up the space inside. They already have the extra guy loop on the 2p version fly, just do that but add the inner wall clip as well.
Hi, thanks for the video :) I have 2 questions, please, in relation to the Cloud 1 person tent: 1. Does the rainfly touch the (inner)tent, or is there space between them? 2. Are the stake out points adjustable or non-adjustable? Thanks
@@michab193 cool that will be more stealthy for sure! I see you’re into Nujabes! I have some of his CDs which could be quite rare now. I used to go to Japan a lot.
@@DOOMFISH360 yeah. i bought the cloud up now! hopefully it works out for me. nujabes is great, yes. always gives me some good vibes when listening to him. going to japan is on my bucket list too. intriguing culture. what do you find so interesting about it that you used to go there regularly? and what keeps you from going to japan again? ;)
@@michab193 oh I used to have a GF over there a long long time ago. Amazing place! It’s the nearest experience you will get to landing on an alien planet. Everything is clean and the people are very respectful. It has very happy vibes. Well it did back then.
Hi nice review, I have ordered one to do some motorcycle camping videos for my channel, I like the quick set up, nice beach camp you had, best of luck with the channel I have Subed , I know how hard it is to get the first 1000. Pete Western Australia. (PS, love the channel title)
Thanks for subbing Pete. Took me ages to find a channel name. I used to walk past a house here on the coast and it had a broken clock on its wall. When you looked closer it said on the face ‘it’s later than you think’.
Hi Fernando! I was thinking of getting some sand pegs from Amazon but I decided to give it a chance without them. The default pegs worked but only just. So I put large pebbles on each peg. The freestanding structure did help also. So all good 👍
Hi fella, I think you will be ok to be honest. I’m 6ft and there was a good gap at the bottom of my feet in-front of the door. I’ve got a new Big Agnes Copper Spur 1 and I gotta say there’s not as much room in that tent than this one. This tent feels like a 1.5 for room. Hope this helps mate. 🤙🏼
Great Stuff matey - I'm looking for a light wee tent to give me a bit more room than my Lanshan 1 on a longer trail and this might be it! Is the vestibule big enough to use a gas stove in? You've got a new sub and a like! keep 'em comin'... atb Sinco
Thanks pal! Yes the vestibule area is fine. The other video I have called ‘Wild Camp on Deadman’s Hill’ shows this area a little bit closer. I’m going to watch some of your adventures today once I’ve done my chores. Keep in touch buddy! 🤙🏼
Can you make this semi free standing to full free standing simply by using treking poles on the single pole side and attaching the 2 ends to a trekking pole horizontally?
I know what you mean there Nelson but I think that would be very tricky to do. If you tighten all the straps to the max it's pretty solid but its a little flappy also. But you can get the job done!
I'm sorry, but I'm totally disappointed in the cloud up tent I bought. It is the 2 person 210t version. It is just way too small. I can imagine how small the 1 man version is. The door is almost impossible to get in and out of. I'm only 5'7" too. For a large person...good luck. Also with the fly off, its actually kinda nice, except you can't see through the mesh very well. It's more like a plastic than a screen. And when you have the rainfly on, it's really hot inside. The set up is easy,, the pegs are nice, and the poles are good quality, but I don't think I will be using this tent too much. I think I rather carry a few extra pounds for a better tent. Only my opinion!
Interesting read there for discussion. I’m sure the 2 person one is 4 season isn’t it? Maybe that’s why it’s super hot! My 1 man version seems fine. I’m 6ft and I have a foot clearance for my feet and plenty of room for the backpack which I have to my side. In Blighty it’s never warm enough just to have the mesh layer so I’ve not experienced the stargazing element. Sorry you’ve had a bad time with it Borg! This tent is my beach tent.
@@ItsLaterThanYouThink maybe it is 4 season( not sure). The space inside is pretty good. It's mostly just the tiny door, that's annoyingly small. Maybe I'll try some more. Thanks for replying!
Hi Paul, very good review, nice to see someone who can do a review without coming across as a self styled expert, good stuff :-) I was considering the Cloud Up 1 for kayak touring due to it being freestanding. A couple of quick questions if you have the time 1. The flysheet seems to sit quite high, have you found this to be an issue? 2. Have you tried pitching the footprint and flysheet before attaching the inner (is this even possible)? Just wondering as it might prove useful if needing to pitch in the rain although it does go up pretty quickly in any case. Thanks again, Cheers.
Hey Mac, thanks for your kind comments. Not found the fly sheet to sit too high at all and not a problem. I think you could put the fly sheet up in the rain but I think it would be major hassle to be honest. Just waking around London and typing this sat outside St Pauls 🤙🏼
@@ItsLaterThanYouThink Hi Paul, thanks for the reply, yeah I watched another video showing pitching fly 1st, do-able but a bit of a faff. Good to know the highish flysheet isn't an issue. The MSR Hubba originally came with a similarly high flysheet but they introduced the Hubba HP with a lower flysheet and more subdued colours for the UK/Europe. The Cloud-Up is essentially a Big Agnes Fly Creek at a very competitive price, definitely looks good.
Oh and I forgot to mention, it only has one vent! ALL tents need at least 2 vents, to provide air FLOW. It needs one towards the back as welll, otherwise the air comes in at the front and has nowhere to flow out. It's good quality but a very poor design
I'm in a cheap freestanding tent terrible quality in Australia freestanding so underated pick it up follow shade around brillant .I never use pegs weight gear stops it blowing away
Hey Jay! 20D is Nylon and 210T is Polyester based. 20D is thinner but stretches more than 210T which means it has a good ripstop attribute to it. 20D waterproof index is 4000. 210T is is 3000. Hope this helps as that's as much as I know on that subject. Take it easy!
I don't know why everyone is raving about this tent. I just got one, the upgraded version and have just been out to put it up. Let me tell you, compared my helm 1 this is a huge faff to erect! There are too many buckles, at some points there are three tie out points using the same peg, the little clips that connect the inner groundsheet to the fly on the middle either side down the length of the tent are useless with the fly taut as they are too short and hold the groundsheet up in the air, not flat on the ground. The groundsheet is so flimsy, you're forced to use the footprint, which just adds to the time it takes to set up. (I really don't see why tent manufacturers are using such flimsy materials for groundsheets to save weight, only to then have to supply a separate footprint to protect it). The fly doesn't appear to cover the inner enough in some places. Far too many areas to tighten, the footprint, inner and fly in some areas on one peg! This tent isn't even particularly light to make up for these flaws, over 1.5 kilos all in, only 300 grams lighter than my Wild Country Helm 1, which is a doddle to erect and bombproof, no footprint needed! Another problem I see with these kind of tents is that the fly just drapes over the poles, I can see In time the clips that hold the inner to the poles rubbing through the flimsy sil nylon material. That's not a problem with tents that go up all in one with pole sleeves. Crap really
Helm also includes ground sheet that you need to buy separately, adding another 200g or more from the weight you mentioned. I'm actually torn between this and the helm 1. Looking for a side by side comparison between the two.
@@mjojrjr6231 I'd say the Helm is a better tent, more robust, better in strong winds, easier to erect, two side vestibules, side entrance, doesn't sag when wet. Okay it's 300grams heavier, and I'd say you don't need the extra footprint as the Helms groundsheet is more robust than the Naturehike, I've never used a footprint with the Helm and the groundsheet has never needed repairing. Thanks
I’m not sure where it took off from but that one was landing which maybe gives you an idea where I was. I’ve been told they’re Amazon planes which just shows you what a crazy network it is. 🤙🏼
