Good job! Best review I've seen so far. It's the first time I've seen a tent completely assembled, with all the pegs and guy lines in place. The demonstration of the different ways of assembly was appreciated. Conclusions and judgment based on lived experience and full of common sense. Really good!

I watched so many videos by the time I got to your I was just seeking postive reinforcement to justify pulling the trigger, so glossed over your various warnings. I got the tent, and after my trips with it, I came back and re-reviewed a couple of videos - and I have to say, your review most accurately matches what I found.

Great review, thank you! I watched this before buying mine a while back. Another con I’ve found with it is how it slacks off over night. I find the porch section sags in and flaps about. I’ve put some bungee cord through the peg outs on the door and side to keep it tight through the night. Mine doesn’t have the twisty clips for the inner either, I was looking forward to that when I ordered it 😆

Thanks for that Dan. Good honest review there. So good infact that you've helped me make my mind up not to get one! It reall is a side opening one I'm after and hearing your comments has helped reinforce that for me. Other than that thouh, it does seem really good. The fact that you can do an out pitch first is a big bonus. I'f I'm honest, I am still tempted because of all the positives you mention, and the price of course. Thanks for the help! All the best. I have one and have added a puece of cord with loops tied to allow me to put up the poles without the mat or inner. This allows me to find a good spot and check theres nothing poking up underneath, which is harder to do with the mat. I then add the mat, then the inner and outer (which i clip to the mat rather than the inner). This means I can remove the inner first, if its wet in the morning.

Public service video mate 🙃 I wanted a different tent originally but they were out of stock, I got this as a ‘yeah that’ll do for now’ tent but I really like it. Wanted to wait a year before recording anything but my opinion hasn’t really changed since I first pitched it. Although I’ve found out they do an ultra light version .. so I may have a goosey at that for summer stuff .. ATB Tent addict.

Dan👌 Nice review brother, thanks. Good complete set up both ways, shows the versatility, and pros/cons as well. Looks like a decent one person 3 season tent although a bit small for my 6'5" frame. The one pole issue would be my main concern at this point. There's always trade-offs with most every thing, outdoor gear is not immune. Great video, well done. Take care, good health. See you next time... Enjoy!
@CampLifeBushcraft

yes, the single pole worries me too, hence I carry the DIY pole repair kit. but you have to have trust in your gear, which takes time. I had the Banshee for a few years and learned to trust it in bad weather. I'm still not fully there yet with this one but its getting closer. I'm heading up into the hills in Wales next month again so that will be another test. pretty much guarantee crap weather this time of year : )

G'day Dan, a really good review mate, well covered. Yep, with ya, 2 person generally = 1 person + gear. Like the design of those clips, I assume they've held up, otherwise you would have said so I'm sure. I do like designs that you can basically establish the structure and still pick up and move around, either simply for aspect or to just maneuver around the local flora, perhaps both.. Inner or outer set up first is nothing to be sneezed at either imo, sure you most probably needn't worry, but when you do need it........................ I do like the side openers too, even for 1, but hey, a very decent buy all things considered. Cheers Duke.
@CampLifeBushcraft
@CampLifeBushcraft 2 года назад
Thanks mate, I was trying to be balanced, inspire of the fact that I do really like the tent. so far the clips have held up fine.. only worry on the tent is that single pole. but I've heard from others that it can really bend in the wind and not snap. time will tell. I'll keep carrying my bit of hose pipe! I probably did Naturehike a disservice there, as reading something on this tent last night it said it is a 1 person tent that can fit 2 in an emergency. which makes a lot more sense. its probably sellers that just claim a 2 person tent. hope you're well mate. I have this. The entrance is too small specially when your cooking at the porch but its easy to set it up. I camp in 50 mph with light rain and still standing and dry. I dont know in the storm or heavy rain with strong wind. You might get wet as the inner tent mesh is quite low.

Hello, I just got one of these and it does seem a real faff to pitch compared to my more traditional Wild country Helm 1 with pole sleeves, inner and outer together. Do you think that the fly will rub on the clips that holds the inner to the poles seeing as it's only draped over the frame? Thanks

Would you feel a wee bit more comfortable about it being called "4 seasons" with a snowskirt? I just came across it here (in South Africa) with a snowskirt option - about 10 quid more for that option.
@laurencecook7652

Great review. I'd disagree slightly about the first two cons though. 3 Vs 4 season - 100% agree it's a 3 season rather than a 4 season - but that's not worse just different - this is more suited for better weather where you might get more issues with a 4 season tent. One man Vs 2 man - that's an industry thing rather than a issue for this thing- is it any worse than most "2man" tents.....

I have the updated version of Cloudup2 in 210t orange colored. But my comment has to do with outer pitch first. Because of how the door is positioned I feel that in a hard windy rain I would set the corners of the inner tent then throw the outer on, stake and guy the fly then go inside with a towel or microfiber cloth and dry as much as possible. Then connect the clips to the pole system. No matter how fast this is done water is going to get on the inner floor. Even with a rain jacket on it will be a battle to not bring water in by coming in and out. So in the end I would plan to have some sort of cloth to "dry" the inner floor beforehand to minimize the eventuality of wet floor. This is in a scenario where the pitch is done in an exposed area and a tarp first setup is not possible. My two cents or shillings worth

Hi Dan how are you? Good review. When looking for a tent I always skipped over inner 1st. The thinking was if your on the side of a hill windy isn't it more of a pain in the .. to put up? Good of them to send a ground sheet. Again that was a pain you find a tent then you have to find the right sheet. After everything I thought about making a tarp tent instead. Not that I've had chance to try camping yet hoping this year me and the dog will be down south. With any look we might bump into you. Do you give autographs?
@CampLifeBushcraft

I like that this one gives both options. I used to have an inner pitch first tent years ago and had to pitch in heavy rain.. the inner got very wet which wasn’t nice. I only give autographs if I have a pen : )

I've had one of these for the last 3 years. It's a copy of a Big Agnes tent. However I don't have £400 to lash out on a relatively flimsy bit of kit so this fits the bill for me. It's not as light as something more expensive but there is a limit to performance and durability vs weight. I've seen a video where 2 guys go on Dartmoor with a Cloud Up and an expensive MSR tent in a storm. The MSR snapped at least one pole and the Naturehike survived intact.

Nice look there Dan . I rarely use a tent but if you're off to them thar hills a tent probably best . I'm hoping to head somewhere like that once or twice this year hopefully and that tent looks a good option . I have the one tigris tangram and the phoxx 2 already so not sure if either of those will be sufficient . Might test them nearer home first . Have you tapped and bivvied up there ? Seems an option but sideways wind and rain might be a problem there . Anyway I'll shut up now 😂 . Nice video with some food for thought . Take care 🏕👍

I've Bivvied on the coast and Tarped and Bivvied in the Surrey hills, but the Brecon mountains or Dartmoor the weather can change pretty rapid at any time, and the wind can really pick up, so you have to be a bit selective about where you'd set up. and take care to look after yourself. having said that my buddy Warren has just Bivvied up mountains many times... but he is a bit odd : ) hope you're well. Does anyone have experience with setting up this tent on a slight slope? Doesnt the tent still get wet when water flows down because you do not have a waterproof part with a bit of height(only groundsheet).

"2p tent" Let's get realistic here (from and exp wilderness hiker). It can acomm 2ppl of a reasonable size and expectations. I (184cm M) have this tent and chose it for the available internal dimensions, durability and weather resistance (Australia) and it's done extremely well. I could afford a more expensive tent, however the 2UP far out does my needs.

I have basically the same tent made by tnh. I think you got the + and -‘s pretty well spot on. They also market it as a 2 person tent, which it clearly is not. 1 person + gear, great. 1 person + gear + dog, snug but probably do-able. 2 people + gear? Heck no. But it is a great little tent, I have a degenerative disease in my spine, I am very sensitive to weight. Also there’s setup, I don’t bend so well so a quick and easy setup matters. Family size tent with many poles? Forget it I’d be on the ground crying long before I got it setup (literally). But this I can get setup without too much trouble. A very good ground pad is also essential for me, I would never be able to sleep on the ground without one.
@CampLifeBushcraft
@CampLifeBushcraft 2 года назад
last night I was reading something on Naturehike and they actually bill this as a 1 person tent that can sleep 2 in an emergency. which actually makes a lot more sense. But I guess the nature of trying to sell tents, like an estate agent trying to sell a house the sellers claim a bit more than the reality. It's still a great tent though! I'm sorry that you suffer with your back. my Father also has had a lifetime of back issues and I know it's a hard thing to live with. Good that you don't let it stop you doing what you love. What pad do you use?
@philw8049
@philw8049 2 года назад
@@CampLifeBushcraft well, 1st thing to understand is I don’t hike lol I would love to hit the woods and just go for a couple weeks but I can’t. My back would lock up and I’d have to be rescued, so when I do go it’s car camping at prepared camp grounds. I use an inflatable tnh pad on top of a shooting pad. The shooting pad is quite thick and adds a lot of r-value. I have no idea how much of course because they just aren’t rated for that but it really helps. If I were hiking I wouldn’t take that though because it’s not light. I’d love to give hammocks a try, but here in Iowa it’s Illegal to tie any kind of cordage or strap around a tree. Can make experimenting with tarp setups a bit difficult as well! Such a silly law, I have nice thick tree straps that would not hurt the tree but doesn’t matter, if I set anything like that up a dnr officer will tell me to take it down.

@@matthughes4524 no problem.. I think I’ve mentioned on video, I prefer it to the Lanshan 2 as it seems more stable, and built better. But all tents are different and designed for different things. Hi, interesting review, I'm considering a Cloud Up to use kayak touring, seems like free standing would be beneficial given the likely camp locations, I was mainly thinking of the Cloud-Up 1 as it requires a smaller pitch but do like the extra poles at the rear of the Cloud-Up 2. If you have time I've got a couple of questions and would value your thoughts. Regarding pitching fly 1st, it seems like it would be a bit tricky if the flysheet needed to be pegged and guyed before attaching the inner (I could be wrong) Any reason why you couldn't add shockcord loops to the corners of the inner and simply loop them over the corner tent pegs rather than needing to unclip the fly/footprint and pull the pole out of the grommet on the footprint? One other quick question, the flysheet on both Cloud-Up 1 and 2 sits quite high, great for ventilation but have you found it to be an issue in wet and/or windy weather? I'm wondering if I should consider the Cloud-Up 2 with the snow skirt/valance, I know it adds a bit extra weight (and bulk) but perhaps not too much of an issue for kayak touring as I can off-set the weight by cutting back on other items if required. Cheers :-)

Zero problems with water in every condition. You can stake the fly out, or down, to increase or decrease airflow as needed. Not a 4 season tent.
