I've seen many reviews of this TV , but not one has focused on the art mode as much as you do, that's what people want to know about this TV, thank you for doing that
I remember seeing your previous video. I bought the previous version which is above our gas fireplace. The only reason I bought it was it looks beautiful when not in use and it’s not bulky on the wall. Getting those magnetic frames really sets it off. More manufacturers should design TVs this way. Great review. 👍
Amazing review, and exactly what I was after. You just cut to the chase and told us what we wanted to hear about this TV. Thanks for the great context and well thought out video. Keep up the good work.
Really glad I found this review. I just got a 43” for Xmas and I’m already looking to upgrade to the 50” in my living room and moving the 43” to my bedroom. It’s absolutely beautiful
I just bought a 55" 2021 Frame. The Smartthings app works well for me, but I'm using my trusty Samsung Galaxy S9. The experience of being 'buggy' may just be added to the long list of things Apple doesn't play well with😉. Thanks for this video. It really helped me with my purchasing decision 👏👏
I have 55in 2018 model and I’ve loved it since. I got a smaller 32in 2019 because the photos looked amazing and everyone that came over my place was amazed at how it looked like a walls art. Great review and now I’m struggling with wanting the new 2021 model 🥺
The problem is with IOS iPhone. With Android is perfect. I use Bluetooth conection to play direct on TV, DEEZER app from TV, Smart Things app to use the cellphone as remote control or just mirrowing the smartphone on TV.
Nice review, quite thorough. Extra things that would have been good to see: would be good to cover the options for showing images at intervals, also sample gaming, use of menus for speed & ease of use. Art mode seems fun but very restrictive! The Smart Things App crashing so much is inexcusable - hope Samsung are watching and fix that soon. It's also a confusing interface; not very user-friendly at all. More options, reliability and ease of use please Samsung!
Haven't read all the comments so apologies if this is a repeat... regarding art/ambient mode and your own music, bluetooth connect your phone to the soundbar, not the TV. I don't have a frame but similar 2021 Samsung (with Ambient mode) - this works fine (and both can be controlled independently by Alexa) [btw Smartthings works fine on Android]
Hi Erin. AWESOME review and great work. I just had a question which is REALLY important to me. I plan to buy this tv for my home photography studio and would like to get your opinion on how the photos look when projecting them onto this TV whether it is via your Samsung phone or a USB plugged in. When you look at the photo onto a laptop screen or your phone vs the Samsung frame, do the photos come close in terms of colors, exposure etc? I have a Samsung Q60 (one of the first one which i believe was only HDR x4) and I struggle to play photos as they look over exposed. I did try to play with the settings to reduce the brightness but then you start to lose details. Just curious to see how good the new improved processor and panels are. Thank you!
I purchased this for our new home. Now I just have to wait for the home to be built so I can try it out! 😄 I can't wait! (I bought 2 years warranty so if there are issues when we get it setup we're covered)
If you connect your phone to your external speaker directly via Bluetooth (not through the frame) you should be able to have art mode and music at the same time.
I ordered the 75in thru amzn and got it delivered today. Amzn comes with free mounting service right now so I decided to wait and let a pro mount it. Unfotunately, earliest is scheduled for next week. I live alone. I had the delivery guys put it on top of the console table and I was able to unbox and add the feet on by myself. I am tempted to mount it myself as well, but I will wait.
Hi there, I have got 2020 FRAME 65". I really enjoy the Art Mode and design of the TV. I uploaded my own artworks and photos and they look georgeus on the big screen. I was afraid of the minimalistic remote control in the beginning but is works great. I have been also suffering from Samsung SmartThings app issues on iPhone and iPad. Samsung is really slow in issuing software updates so it is hard to say when they will be able to fix the bugs...
If you go into your Bluetooth on your phone you should see your Frame as a connectable device. Connect to it and you should be able to listen to music in art or ambient modes. I’m doing it now 🙂
That's a really good point. I didn't think of that. I think this TV is for the type of person who mounts their TV over the fireplace. But even if it's at the ideal TV viewing height, I think it will look better that most TVs.
I've sent a link to a friend who just bought the 2021 Frame as he is interested (as I was) in displaying our own art. I was never really able to get the app to work on my iOS devices but you can put your images on a USB stick and load them that way. You do need to find out the size for your TV (the images are quite large to get all the mat options). And I have the 2020 version, where there is also ambient mode. It may not be available on the first one you reviewed but it was in subsequent models.
great review! I share your pain with the smart things app. did you compare the samsung sound bar with the sonos sound bar? thanks again. I'm a subscriber now thru this review
Excellent video! I do have a question that wasn't covered in your Art review. I have 2 frame tv's and I bought a picture for my living room tv. How can I get the same picture on my bedroom tv? I've tried everything. I'm considering the annual art subscription but I want to make sure that I can use it on both tv's.
Good question. I’m not actually sure if the art subscription is per Television or per account. That would be a good question for Samsung and I would be interested in hearing the answer… In theory if you are logged into your Samsung account you should be able to access all the same content. But if that’s not the case do tell…
Excellent review, thank you. I'm watching it 2/18/22. Has Samsung put out a newer model since you produced this video? Have they made the app less quirky? I'm of course interested in this TV only for the art mode so if the app prevents from uploading personal photos, it kinda makes no sense to spend the money. I too have iPhone and MacBook Pro.
Hi Erin, thanks for the helpful review! Just wanted to confirm…does the tv connect wirelessly to the connection box or is there a physical connection required?
Hi from Scotland Erin! Thanks for the review, can you tell me if there’s been an improvement on your iPhone app crashing when using the TV? Also, have Samsung allowed music to play when in art mode? Thanks!
Hello Bobby and thanks for watching. Yes, the app now seems to be functioning much better now and I was able to upload my own photo content to the TV finally. However I have still not seen the ability to play music while in art mode arrive.
Hello Erin! I've just bought a 65 inch Samsung Frame Tv and I would like to know how you managed to hide the hanging cable, which I understand is clear. I heard you say in the video that you hid it in the wall? How did you pull that off?
You sold me on the Frame TV. My wife hates the way sound bars look (on a mantle under the TV) especially now that we will be getting the Samsung Frame TV. So what other sound options do we have. We have walls we could put speakers in or a new ceiling going in that we could hide speakers in but don't know which ones to get. Any suggestions? Do you already have a RU-vid video on this? Again, great job.
I think buying a bezel with the TV is cheaper than buying them separately. I ended up getting the teak, but I may end up spray painting it something else. I'd recommend the white one.
That’s one of the free options I think. So with that said, you get a free trial subscription before you have to start paying for it, so I guess I’ll find out in another month.
@@ErinLawrenceTV Thanks for this great review. I'm on the fence about 2021 vs 2022 model because of the matte version - would you say that the 2021 model has less glare than most other TVs, or is it just the art features that set it apart?
I’m really struggling with this decision. The frame is 1700, the LG C1 is 1700. The LG is objectively better, so now I’m trying to decide if I’m willing to spend the same amount for a TV that isn’t technically as good, but looks so much better
Tough call… I can say for certain that I am really loving the frame TV though. In hindsight I might have chosen a slightly larger model, but I really think it’s fantastic.
Erin, great video! Do you know if there is a way to add more 3-D looking digital mats and frames that I can add to my photos.? LG’s Gallery has the best looking 3-D frames I’ve ever seen, but you have to rotate them every 15 seconds, so it definitely doesn’t feel like real art. Thanks for your advice!
What about the gaming performance ?? HDMI 4 is compatible for PS5, On paper the frame has 120HZ refresh rate along with VRR, any information about this ??
Sometimes if something stays on a screen for too long, it can become almost permanent. For example if you have a menu that is always on screen and you go to turn the TV off or navigate away from the menu, you may see a ghostly impression of it even though you’ve switched to something else. This is burn in. .
The thing that turns me off from this TV is that you don’t get a frame like bezel that comes with the TV. That is an option of $150 for different colour or textured frames. In my view this thing does not look like a piece of art with the black bezel. You are already paying extra to get this TV I think about $500 more than the exact same qled Samsung version so the least they could do is include one.
Hi Nicholas, I'd say overall image quality was about the same... but I'm trying to remember back 4-5 years ago. It's certainly outstanding on the 2021 model.
Good review, thanks. Any luck getting the app to work with your iPhone? I cannot get it to work with mine. I am able to use Ambient Mode but the iPhone does not recognize Art Mode which is a big disappointment. I've been in contact with both Samsung and the Smart Things App but no resolution to the problem. It's very disappointing and I may return the TV.
Why? Basically Apple deliberately caps Samsung software so you stay within your iOs prision.. And instead of throwing the phone away you return one of the best panels on the market? Just for your consideration Samsung intelligent panels have worked perfectly Android since 2012.
Great question. When it is fully dark in the room, the light from the screen when in art mode is very subtle; it tries to match up with the ambient light level in the room so that it is never too glaring. Of course you can shut the screen completely off as well.
I cannot find the way to make make my own art to display without a border/mat. Also I cannot see the art mode changing in brightness as lighting changes in my room as you claim. What's the best setting for that? Thanks for the reply Erin!!
4:38 There is a coating? I thought that was a new special feature for 2022... I'll be pretty happy if there is a coating - I ordered the 2021 at irresistable runout model prices.
@@ErinLawrenceTV I'd also love to see a review of the A90J. Specifically, Sony has a new ambient light and color sensor in it that adjusts the TVs contrast, color, and brightness automatically. I'd love to see if it's possible to mimic the Samsung Frame look using that setting, but with the built-in Ambient Mode on Google TV (the software Sony ships with). Any way you could check this? Would be an awesome thing to check as no other reviews do!
Does the art work really look realistic? I've seen earlier models in stores and art mode still looked like a TV displaying it but maybe this 2021 version is better.
I have the 2019. I use my own art, and I’ve had dozens of people stand right under it and not know it’s a tv until we tell them. So far no one as known. All are shocked.
I just got my TV. I looked it up online and found that if you go through settings and connect the tv to Bluetooth you can play music and have the tv in art mode. Anytime I did it with the Home Screen pull down menu, it did not work.
I think it works very well in low light. I always do recommend an additional sound bar with a TV like this. It is nearly impossible to install a good quality internal speaker in some thing this thing. I really like this TV with the Sonos Beam Sound Bar.
This is a really nice video because the whole point is the art mode! To the comment about burn-in, that's really only a concern for OLED TV's. The Frame is a QLED TV so there isn't any burn-in risk. I think the main "con" of The Frame TV is how much you're paying for the Art Mode functionality. The non-art related performance is comparable to the Samsung Q60A, which today is priced at $950 US for a 65", compared to $1,500 for The Frame. Buyers will have to decide if it's worth paying the 50+% premium for art mode, because for that price, you are approaching flagship TV prices, such as Samsung's QN90A or an OLED TV from Sony or LG. Not to mention the bezels and art subscriptions are all sold separately. I am hoping perhaps The Frame price will drop on Black Friday which might help to make this decision easier.
Hi, thanks for the great review! Do you know if its possible to use this new art mode and his arts on the old model (2020)? And the multi view, works on the 2020 model also? Thanks!
Have you checked the settings? Haven’t somehow reverted back to factory after an internal firmware update? That happened to me once, and I just had to toggle the motion detection settings.
