Hello, I am a subscriber almost since the channel was created, and today I made some tests that I would reccomend you to do too. The normal thougth is that the best brake settings is: minimal mecanical brake, or even no mecanical brake and control only with the centrifugal/magnetic brake. But I today tested on my 2020 Metanium a new breake setting, I used to only use the silent tune and leave the mecanical brake off and 2 internal brakes on and put on 4. Today I put the centrifugal braked with 1 internal brake and 2 on the external dial, and used the mechanical brake to just dont let the lure falling fast, and I noticed a significant increase in the casting distance, so when you have time to test do it, and let me know what you think about this type of brake setting because for me was a mind blowing change of the casting distance!

I’ve been looking at a DC and have decided on the Scorpion. If anything, watching this I like having the holes in the spool vs the smooth Curado. I plan on braid for this reel and like the idea of not having to use a backing for my line.

Due to the yen crashing I picked up a few of the scorpions 21s. I’m excited for them to come in!

I actually don’t like the dial on the bottom of the scorpion compared to the curado because my hand is constantly touching it and a lot of the time it adjusts without me knowing! That’s about the only thing I dislike about the new scorpion. It’s an amazing reel!

There is a new Grappler, Engetsu, and Scopion 21 MD. Need them all!! LOL.

I used my google lens translate to read the Japanese directions. Made it much easier.

A light spool doesn't mean further casting. It means its most easily controlled by the brakes, which makes it handle lighter baits more consistently. A heavier spool is always going to cast further with heavier baits, because the mass allows it to spin longer. If you want to bomb a ned rig, pick an MGL spool. If you want to bomb a 1/2 ounce jig, pick a regular spool.

My scorpion differs. I have the HG model. The idc5 system starts with F, N, P. The handles are similar to my MGL and are not as large as yours. I assume that’s because you have the extra high gear model. Or maybe I got a defect.

Nothing beats the 2017 Scorpion DC in my opinion.

The new scorpion N mode cast the furthest. I was quite disappointed when I got my reel, put it on PE n couldn't get any distance. Played around n tried N mode n it cast alot further. Using 40# power pro slick v2

And wait I own a reel I didn’t even know could be used in saltwater as well?!! THATS CRAZY

I had question. Do you have any problems with the drag? I just got one and and I have to tighten the drag quite a bit for it to have any drag power. I was just wondering if mine was defective or if that’s how it is. Because it has 11lbs of drags and I have other reels with same drag but the feel stronger.

Problem with Japanese brand is they tend to follow the way they manufacture and sell their cars. All very superficial changes. They will come up with so many models from just one series. I believe on their drawing boards they already have the next 3 years upcoming models and that include the increase in price as well. I can't deny they are of good quality but we need to learn how to be happy with just one purchase. Most important is whether we catch any fishes.

if you get yours hands on the curado bfs can you do me a favor and open it up and tell me what the main gear looks like? if you see the specs you will notice micro module gearing is not listed. i HAD a alderbarron bfs for 9 months. the main gear no longer has any teeth left! they were shorn off!. i loved that reel until that happened. i read many shimano reels with that micro module aluminum main gear had teeth being shorn off. im hoping they stopped using the that material and beefed it up for the curado bfs because i want one.

You can not compare casting distance or weight by spooling more line on the new one. You are not forced to so to be fair same amount of line. Infact same exact line.
