2021 Suzuki GSX-S 1000 | First Ride Review
Suzuki were kind enough to let me loose on their revised GSX-S1000 for a few weeks. But is this just a face lift and some fancy headlights or is there a cracking litre road bike underneath? Join me for this first ride review as I try to find out!

Suzuki bikes are the most underrated, especially this one and the 750. They aren’t the flashiest, or the best, but they tick all the boxes for a daily rider. Even the gixxer is such a comfortable kick a** sport bike.

If you think they are underrated then you are wrong. They sell more bikes than some European manufacturers like Ducati and BMW combined and obviously last longer than them. You should say Suzuki aren't much discussed amongst the online bike racers lol. The real bikers knows it's values.

My local dealer has new 2024 GSX-S1000's $2,600 off for just under $9,000 before fees and taxes. Seems like an excellent deal as far as performance/cost ratio. But I know as soon as I plunk down the money, Suzuki will come out with a newer version with an upgraded TFT screen.

Simple anwser and forbtye money definitely yes! It will do the weekly commute and the weekend blasting with mates!! Obviously if you want more bhp then you will need to pay more for that! But I recon an average rider on a public road this will be as quick down the favourite road as bikes costing twice as much! Cause as usial the limiting factor is the rider capabilities and the resistance to the "scar yourself silly" moments. Not the bikes capabilities or grip from the tyres. On a track it probably will be a different story but as well a slow rider will be slow on a Streetfighter V4S as well as this! Good review!

As a 2020 GSXS 750 owner, whilst the bikes are nice and priced competitively I've just started to see why the price is so low - build quality. I've got issues with wheel paint coming off whilst I'm polishing them by hand. I've got bubbling appearing and various external parts showing signs of excessive wear. As a Honda owner of old, never had this problem. Really annoyed.
@darksector82
@darksector82 2 года назад
I own a 2018 GSXS 1000 and never encountered your issue, it could be the polishing products you're using isn't suitable for your application. The bubbling thing could be due to the water you're using to clean your motorcycle or could be the soap, not really sure which exactly. Try new cleaning products and check if the water is suitable to clean your motorcycle.

Can recommend it also for inexperienced riders or even talented new riders. It is so much fun even in C Mode and with traction control fully on. @@sidineiperondi6351 No problems after 11.500 km. It is a pretty awesome naked bike for the road. You can also do a bit of touring. I added a luggage system from Hepco Becker and a Puig windscreen. Nice review. Too many people get caught up in spec sheets instead of actually riding a bike! I really like it as do most reviewers seemingly. It's an underrated relative bargain & perfect for the road. I like the looks too but not that colour. The dash is pretty average & a bit busy but I'm not overly fussed with TFTs so being an LCD isn't a deal breaker for me personally. Supposedly if you turn it up to max brightness it's not too bad.
@longdog67

@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 2 года назад
@@longdog67 Yep totally agree. Essentially because it's not premium with at least 175bhp, it doesn't exist. There are potentially 2 types of group tests, one that looks at performance to determine the outright best bike & the other is a real world test that takes price in to account. When was the last time you saw the latter? The GSXS will never appear in a performance group test but could potentially win the real world one. Possibly one of the best value bikes on the market at the moment in terms of what you get for your money. On price it's competing with the KTM Duke 890R & Triumph Street Triple RS & has way more bang for your buck. However most people will completely ignore it to their detriment.

13:05sec You Mentioned if you want a more aggressive power bike maybe a KTM Super duke, "BUT" you only had the S1000 in B mode lol thats like 80% Ecu HP, C mode gives you 60% power, Then @ 14:42secs (HOLY SHIT) Bahahahahahahaha.....Uhm You Ate your Words Right there lol....Rather this GSX S1000 2021 Any day over a Almost too aggressive over tuned Duke Just Saying. So i took this out for a test ride the other day. Did you notice the jerky throttle or was this perhaps just my model? I was on a long straight and decided to open it up while riding at normal speed and it was a very noticeable time delay from my cruising speed to monster speed. which caused a jerk motion. Did you experience this? any idea why it does this?

I don't believe a TFT would cost a whole lot more and would be my preference on this style of bike. How do the ergonomics compare to the CB650R? I ask because I know you owned one and it's my current bike.
@Amory98

Incredibly comfortable, more so than the 650r. Closer in comfort to the older 650f; even more I'd say.

Great review Dan, I know you did a review on the gt+ a few months ago and was wondering which model is more comfortable? I know that is subjective to what the rider likes. Is there a difference in leg room, handlebar height, seat comfort ect... and how do they compare to the ninja 1000sx on comfort?

I love the kit on this model but am in love with last year's body styling. I'm torn. There's a 2019 GSX-s1000 for 9k only an hour and a half from where I live. Loved it on the test ride, but liked the new kit even more when I test rode that one. Loved riding both, but the edge goes to the new one. Can't say both look good because, I love the old style looks.

Do you prefer this to the CB1000R? More low-down shove than one. I'd like the Suzuki if I had need for a litre bike, but the roads in Thailand don't require so much power. I used to have B-King in Europe. A bit too heavy at 265 kg, though. The 1000 is pretty light, relatively speaking. These litre-plus Suzuki inline fours can often get to over 80,000 miles without needing a valve shim. Fantastic old-school engines.
@Englishbikerdan

Tough choice between the two. The CB is a very pretty bike but for comfort I'd go with the Suzuki. 👍

To those riders who are on the fence about how good the Suzuki bikes are!!! Look up the comparison between 2005 GSXR ( the very same engine this bike poses ) and Ducati Panigale 2020 V4 S. You'll laugh your a... off and then you'll save a tone of money by stepping out of the vanity race.

@@Englishbikerdan To be honest though, as a current owner of GSX S750, I am not sure if it is worth upgrading to S1000 especially my ride is mostly in the city with occasional weekend tour. As much I am happy with my S750, Ninja 400 has been the best 'bang for the buck'' bike for my city ride with weekend tour among 7 bikes I tried in the past 4 yrs or so. My dilemma is.. that.. will S1000 be so much better than my current S750 at cruising at 50 - 75 mph ( 80 - 120 kmh) ?

Interesting after riding the gsxs750 and 1000 and owning the cbr650 you decided on the SV 650. I guess high horsepower is not that important to you. I think I might be the same. Currently I ride an older gs500f but I'm thinking of upgrading.

Nice review but I wish Dan would get his facts right. The new gsxs makes LESS peak torque (but more lower down the revs) and MORE power than the previous models not less! The engine is from the K5 to K8 gsxr 1000 and not the 750.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 2 года назад
That's the downside of trying to remember all of the bike stats that I memorised while out riding and getting lost. It's definitely easier to sit at a desk and look them up. The K5 comment was meant as, have they gone the same route as the S750 and used the K5 engine (as in, K5 1000 gixxer for this particular bike). Which is a yes as I now know. I do this for fun and in my spare time, I'm not a professional rider or journalist, so I get things wrong on occasion. Worse things happen at sea.

There is no protection from the wind. At high speeds on a long journey is unbearable. The previous model has the option to add protective windshield. In this model there is no such option. This is a very big drawback for me. I stay on the GSX-1000 2019.
