Love my 1050XT, best bike I have owned in years. Came from GSA and Tigers but prefer this, makes me smile so much. That engine as a road bike is alot of fun. Being 6'3" you can adjust the screen whilst riding.

The display is a tribute to the 80:s... In fact the whole bike is a tribute to the Dr. Big. Even the color you have in the reveiw. But it's bloody good. Fantastic bike and much more fun on tarmac than it looks. On gravel it's ok. It gets there. The point is, it can do anything, but it is happiest on tarmac as a tourer. Suits me fine. I am on gravel sometimes but most miles are done on tarmac. Can really recommend the bike. Fantastic value.

I currently own a 2014 Big Vee from new with 97,000kms on it. new chain and new sprockets (my choice, not essential), new rear shock (off roading) and thats it. Absolutely brilliant bike without the need for a degree in technology! Mine has ABS and traction control and thats all I need. Pretty easy to work on, and a heap of after market accessories available. When I hit the 200K km mark, I might think about upgrading. Bash plates available as a package with this new 1050, or buy it seperately. SW motech have them.

The Suzuki VStrom xt looks great, park your GS bias and you've got a great bike. The thinking man's adventure bike just change that exhaust.Great review👍

I enjoyed your review - Thanks. Looks like a great bike at a very reasonable price. For some of us, 'less is more' regarding complexity and I like the purposeful nature of the design. That must have been an interesting day having both an AT and a V-Strom at your disposal! Cheers.

One added note guys. The little flap at the rear wheel is designed to keep a lot of crap off the rear shock.FYI

Nice review Good all round bike at a great price . For a long distance tourer ,brilliant. I have bought the cheaper version and it's great,less electrical gadgets to go wrong which I have experience with on my others . Plus they have excellent reliability over last 15 years.

My 18 V Strom 1000 = turn key, hit starter and just ride for miles. They’re major strength is reliability big following.

Nice review,some body panels look a bit eighties especially around the seat area, but a nice bike.

The value in these is in reliability, which seems like a talking-point until your expensive (insert brand here) ADV bike is sitting in a service center for moths out of the year. Maintenance is relatively cheap too, which is a huge plus if you're the type who puts lots of miles on your bike. Cheers.

Months? find a better place. I do agree parts are cheap. You can't really say anything about reliability? Brand new Machine.

@@thuringervonsausage5232 Any place can only move as fast as the manufacture is willing to settle a warranty claim, which is why simplicity and reliability (motor in this has been around since the TL1000S) are key.

If I could magically trade my 2016 DL650 for one of these I might do, but I'm not sure i'd spend the extra money on one over say a used GS or Tiger 1200. If I did get one it'd be in yellow with the blue seat because it's funky.

Damn good bike, spoilt by over-engineered service intervals e.g. changing the 4x iridium plugs every 7.5K miles (plugs are £20 each) and shim checks. Anyway minor service £300 + parts, major service £500+ parts. That fender extender works, front of my engine is clean. Needs a rear hugger though, shizzle goes everywhere. That suspension is surprisingly good, far more stable at high speed than the TIger12 ;-)

I don't think the plugs are changed on this model at 7.5 miles,maybe 16k when the shims are checked,my old strom 650 didn't need changing til 32 k.

7.5k service is really cheap. Plugs are inspected only (not that I would), no oil filter. All I got my garage to do was replace oil and stamp the book.

Great Review and Great Bike, im actually looking to get my first Adventure Bike 🏍 and this seems to get Amazing Reviws and seem Bullet proof....im looking at 650 as im vertically challenged do you like the 650..???

As an owner of a 2019 1000xt Adventure, I will say the 650 is a great all around motorcycle. It lighter and sits a little lower than the 1000/1050 . The are extremely reliable and inexpensive to maintain.

That oil filter is greatly exposed; is there a skid plate to protect it?

They are on offer now which means it will going to be replaced in 2022. Same for the Vstrom 650

Here in Denmark the new 1050 models are to expensive compared to the competitors. Example, starting price for the base DL1050XT is GBP 20.875 or USD 29.510 :-( . The previous DL1000 models were a lot "cheaper"

That's because they designed it based on the dr800 but more modern. I think the design is great. Not every bike needs to look aggressive.

Your right, too much electronic shite we have to pay for but dont need. Bikes now are all too high, heavy, and expensive. That silencer wouldnt look out of place on a tractor !.

Another great review, thank you. The bike itself is possibly the ugliest bike I have ever seen, but that is a matter of personal taste. No matter from which angle I look at it, there is nothing good looking about it, for me. The front light, the colour, the overall design; it looks utterly outdated, like something from the seventies. If it is functional and a great performer, then great. Would have liked to see the bike in motion and hear it's sound.
