2021 Toyota 4Runner Venture Special Edition - So Much Like a TRD PRO 

I have a stock 1998 4Runner. 310k miles. No problems. Drove from CA to MT last fall and spent a week off road in the back country. Best car I've ever owned and I will keep it forever.

Anyone else here can't afford one but watching it and dreaming anyways? 😂

The Venture seems very similar to my 2015 Trail Edition Premium with KDDS. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is now lifted with lots of upgrades. I never get tired of driving it. The only downside is the gas mileage. With all the extra weight and larger tires I average 15.6 MPG. Still I would rather drive it and enjoy life than be sad in a Prius.

I purchased a white 2021 4Runner TRD/PRO a couple of months ago and couldn't be more pleased. It reminds me a lot of the 1978 FJ40 I owned for a long time - simple, rugged and reliable.

I do not own a 4Runner however, have driven the Toyota Sequoia and I concur 1,052%. Toyota, especially their trucks, are for the minority of people who prefer to buy something uber-reliable, and drive it 10, 15 years and/or until the wheels fall off. Toyota trucks are tried, true, super reliable, and there is absolutely NO reason to go tinkering with something that has worked SO well for SO long. It may seem petty or superficial, but Toyota and Fiat are the only two automakers remaining who have not totally gone over to a feminine design aesthetic. I am very happy with my current truck, however, would like to pick up a very gently used 2021 4Runner in about 5 or 6 years.

My 2021 4Runner TRD ORP w/XP Predator Package, gets 18mpg combined and 20-21.7mpg Highway. I traded my 2015 F2FIDDY 6.7 PowerStroke in on my 4Runner and I’m comin from 10/12mpg as it was lifted 8” and had 38” Toyo open country MT tires so it didn’t get good mileage, but they’re not built for that. Neither is the 4Runner, but I’m lovin the gas mileage! I’ll be lifting it 3” to level it out and mitigate the nose dive when braking that’s utterly ridiculous and annoying. I love the Nitto Ridge Grappler AT tires on the TRD as well. Great, proven, reliable trucks. Just do the maintenance oil changes every 5k miles, tranny fluid changes every 50k miles along with rear diff and transfer case every 50k-75k miles, and the truck will probably outlast you!! First person I’ve heard call the 4Runner a “crossover suv” though lol

I bought the venture and really love it. One area thats not up to the pro is tires. Took it four wheeling in Colorado and had a rock pierce a tire the first morning. At the tire shop in Gunnison they said theyre good highway tires but not for off road. After changing a tire on the side of a mountain I agree.

I agree, this is the best version to get. TRD Pro is $5-7000 more and all you really get is a badge.

My favorite trim level of the 2021 4Runner. Functionally pretty much the same as the OR Premium (aside from the add3d roof basket) but better looking and worth the extra money.

good to know the steering play detail, didn't know the different trims could have different amount of play. I had a LX570, for me it had no play, super precise and easy to drive. I think the GX has a little more play, followed by 4runners. I also had a 2022 Tacoma, but for me, it's pretty precise too.

It’s January 2022, I tried to order one of these at my local dealership and was told I couldn’t get one.. a TRD or a trail edition, no ventures, so I ordered a Trail..

4Runner's big brother, Sequoia also has the electric roll down lift gate window. Probably the only 2 vehicles like this, not including the pickups.

My silver 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS has 80k and no issues. Not much has changed to have the need to upgrade.

Used to have a 2015 in Limited and I miss it, don’t know why I traded it in.

I want all the goodies inside, comfort on road. Im not one to off road. Most is just gravel road, dirt road a few times a year.

i feel like the cons were almost there just to have something under the category lol. i absolutely love my 2016 Trail edition however i do plan on trading in for a 2022 lunar rock or army green TRD OFF ROAD pkg with KDSS. i dont want to purchase another truck just want the goodies for the long term.

This is a TRD Offroad Premium with black exterior bits (lower bumper valance, door handles, spoiler, 4Runner applique), TRD Pro wheels, and Predator step bars with a Yakima rack and cargo tray from the Trail edition. I don't think it's worth the extra cost honestly. Most of these parts you can order separately, and I've seen many new 4runner's with these options installed at port. I think most people would be better off with a TRD Offroad w/ KDSS and swap for aftermarket wheels and A/T tires since that's the aggressive look people want anyways. What's odd is Toyota foregoes the TRD shift knob for one found in the SR5.

I love the 4runners. I myself owns a 2001 3Gen and she still going strong. Toyota definitely needs to change the interior and a little bit of the exterior. It’s long over do especially with Bronco coming out with the 6trims.

Why are you hyping this up like it's another model it's a TRD off road with black rims and a rack. Toyota is not putting new tech in 4runner and it's annoying. They are laughing to the bank while everyone gets happy with one change a year. Since 14 they need to redesign the interiors and tech way to outdated for 2021. Also lack of color choice all you see is the same color unless it's a TRD pro. There should be way more paint choices if the car is so popular.

This is nothing like a TRD Pro other than they are both 4runners and have trd badging. It is much more closely related to the Off-road package. Also the narrator says the Venture has a/t tires. They are NOT a/t tires.

I’m 58 yrs old and I’m on my second 4Runner, that should tell you how long it lasts. You want your higher mpg’s and fancy electronic BS, go buy a Crossover or CUV, the 4Runner isn’t for you. I pray Toyota doesn’t ruin the 4Runner by adding turbo’s or fancy BS because that always spells far less longevity and extremely expensive repairs.

Look at how all the other newer toyotas are going with their drivetrains especially the new tundra coming out which won’t be a NA engine anymore and will have a smaller engine with turbo like the rest of the market for better efficiency.
