The new (old) name represents a complete reinvention for the car - and it’s now available with two brilliant hybrid options in its lineup. What makes it such a good hybrid option? I don't get the complaints about the back rest lever. It's much quicker to adjust this way than with a dial. Love it.

Picked up on this too, the lever is way better than scrapping your knuckles against the side of the car to turn a dial, and I wish more cars used a lever instead of a dial.

Britain, where fuel is sold by the litre, but fuel economy figures are given in miles per British gallon, a unit of volume that is only ever used in the context of fuel economy ratings and which is 20% larger than the American gallon. How many British gallons did you just buy at the pump? That's easy! Just divide the number of litres you bought by 4.54609. Once you get good at dividing and multplying numbers by that figure, developing an intuitive feel for you car's real world mpg fuel economy is easy.

It's true that some corolla' s rivals exhibit better passenger space and larger boot volume. But when it comes to reliability record, ease of driving and the > character, the Toyota Corolla has no direct competitor.

Anything from Honda matches / betters Toyota... New Jazz hybrid coming next year. Jazz beat the Yaris for reliability. Assuming both companies can get their pricing strategies correct.
@huythai1222
@huythai1222 5 лет назад
MelCanuck idk about the EU, but in the US the Corolla is far more reliable than the Honda Fit, which is one of its key competitor.
@melcanuck5951
@melcanuck5951 5 лет назад
Don't know... the US market is a cheaper priced car market than Europe and thus most motor manufacturers build them down to a price, which means they use cheaper seats, cheaper quality plastics and are quite horrid by comparison to their Euro products. (Having lived 7 years in the USA) The US gets the mid level Corolla sedan hybrid which is not as plush as the Excel model seen here which would cost - including metallic paint (yes, europeans have to pay extra for metallic paint) and sunroof about USD $40,300 whereas the US Corolla Hybird sedan costs only $23K USD. Likewise the Euro Jazz is a much nicer car and was voted by WhatCar as one of the most reliable cars on the market. At the time toyota sold an Auris (not a Corolla in Europe, which was rubbish)
@huythai1222
@huythai1222 5 лет назад
MelCanuck the Auris served many second world countries in the east, therefore cost cutting measures to bring the price down is very likely. Although I wonder why they brought it to Europe knowing full and well they aren’t up to spec in Europe. The corolla although a nice vehicle now, aren’t as popular in the US as the RAV4 therefore they aren’t focused on it as much anymore. But one key thing I’ve noticed is that all Toyotas in Europe aren’t built as good as Toyotas in the US, spec wise and quality wise. Although this could be due to import regulations etc.

Our obsession with the Focus and Golfs in the UK is slightly odd, this will cost so much less over 5 to 10 years than anything else out there. Americans will never buy a car without apple CarPlay/Android auto, we are suckers in Europe to keep accepting it.

I was looking at a Nissan Versa. But I might spend a bit more to get this Hybrid. It seems worth it in the long run.

I bought this car in the beginning of 2022 it’s amazing. The top package comes with a big screen, all of the tech like auto parking, safety and adaptive cc. The screen is okay with apple carplay. This review mentioned that it doesn’t have CarPlay, I have this car and it does. The only thing is that it cannot fit 4 large adults. However 2 adults with 3 kids - no problem. Edit: Admittedly I have the 1.8 hybrid Corolla sedan with luxury premium plus package with all of the options. Edit: It also has 10 years of warranty which includes free battery services and even the led headlights. The only stuff that’s not included is consumables and the rubber door seals

not buying a car because it "looks better" - if i would i'd buy an alfa romeo. i'm buying a car for efficiency and reliability. that's what you get here. and please don't compare it to other european cars, those are just pretty handbags with a lame product lifecycle.

Why is there now only one option for the interior on this car and not the really nice looking grey and alcantera that it looks like you could get a couple of years ago? 🤔

Golf Golf Golf! Seriously! Had a look at the new Golf recently, absolutely bloody awful interior, so much cheap feeling shiny plastic. And still only offered with a 3 year limited warranty... German premium you’re having a laugh.

Great review! I was looking into this one as an alternative to the Camry Hybrid which has the highest safety rating around if you get the optional headlight package. Unfortunately this one doesn't have a perfect safety rating. That's all I'm willing to go with after seeing a loved one die in a car accident. I've had Corollas though in the past and my family had Corollas and they are excellent cars. If they could just get the safety ratings to all perfect five stars instead of one being a four I would buy it. If anyone cares the Prius also doesn't have a perfect safety rating either. Only the Camry, with the hybrid with the headlight package being the safest of them all.

If you really want safety you should go with a Subaru.

A J maybe by the time I need to buy one Subaru will have a hybrid, but I looked at their current lineup and there was nothing that fit my needs. They're definitely on my list of brands to consider though!

You should not forget that the most important safety feature is right between the driver's seat and the steering wheel. Crash test ratings are only comparisons, not a guarantee of anything. Choose what's best for you.

I can’t agree about the comparison with the ford focus as a ”drivers car ” I owned a focus and went straight to a 2.0 L Corolla. The corolla is way, way better in almost every thing. The only downside to the ”rolla” is the boot space and backseat space.

If you want great fuel economy without paying extortion amount of money then buy Hyundai ionic. I’ve been using ionic for 4 months now and I’m getting 68 to 70 Mpg easily.

No one ever.compares servicing costs. When your buying a car thus is important unless you have bucket loads of foldin stuff. Toyotas are cheaper to service compared to others in the same class
