Big thing with these compared to the bmws is the resale value 10 years from now with over 300,000kms it will still be worth 50k plus while your equivalent x5 will be worth 10k

X5 that reaches 300,000 kms is a rare beast and prob. had 50k spent on it to keep it on the road. Mine has nearly reached 200 and had to spend 5k over the last couple years.

Entertaining video thanks Chance. Disagree about the X5. There’s no comparison. Forget the snob factor SUV versus SUV. Resale value reliability power capability iconic status it’s all in favor of the Land Cruiser not the Beamer. Just my two cents

Man I WISH we could get land cruisers in North America. I’ve driven a highlander and a 4Runner and they’re phenomenal. I can only imagine what a pimped out combo of the 2 is like.

My new 200 GXL will be delivered next week after the GVM upgrade. Not sure if you realise but a full replacement screen is available with Android/Apple, as is a torque converter lockup and transmission retune. They are the first mods to go on my LC!

Should hit up crd tech at Coolum, they are modifying heaps of v6 amarok’s. Would be good to see 0-60 test on the channel, should be around the 6 sec mark

Yeah nah, give me the Cruiser. In 15years time you wouldve needed to replace almost the whole engine of the beemer, where with this thing the battery. A mate of mine has an earlier version of this with 500k km on it. Asked them what they needed to replace. He answered like this. Uhm..... (puts down his papers in his hand, looks up at the roof), maybe the alternator.

So the 2021 Toyota V8 diesel puts down about the same amount of power as the BMW M57 3.0 I6 from over 10 years earlier? M57s can last a long time if you do maintenance.. for comparison I paid $10,000 for a 2011 BMW X5 35d and it is faster than the LC but can only tow 3 tons. I'm surprised you are saying the Aisin transmission is poop, Porsche uses them in their cayennes.

You pay a lot for the Toyota name and they hold value better than almost everything. The 79 series is a perfect example of this. It’s bloody expensive for something that still has hand crank windows. They have a massive cult following though.

No good for the the channel guys - zero content. It will not break down. No oil leaks. Ultimate reliability. No soul though, meaning you don't jump in and go for a drive with no fixed destination... Had one as a company car for a number of years - zero issues and will run forever...

Of course the Beemer guys prefer the x5! How could they choose.......a Toyota!? ! If you are going to drive around paved roads like they are here, sure the X5 is a better choice. But if you want to go off the paved road.....the LC is obviously by many fold, the better choice. A more interesting test would be for them to drive the X5 off road ......then ask which one is better.

I’d much rather a F15 30d or a even a Y61 Patrol than the Cruiser, I’ve driven the prefacelift one of these and I thought (like the Hilux, Prado and pretty much all modern Toyota’s) it was way way overrated. At least with the X5 it handles better and the Patrol looks better and they’re good to mod. No one here really uses the newer 200 series off-road anyway.

I would have this over 2 new X5's and in 10yrs time will still be worth more than the 2 Beemers. Personal choice though as I do a lot of touring and off roading. This is my powerball car..

Lets be honest.. The only people (Apart from Matty - who breaks the mold and must be a legend of a bloke) who will buy this will be some old bloke who will drive it around on normal roads to go to work and the only time that it will see dirt will be when they drive up their driveway on their farm/property and when they take their horse show jumping wearing either their barrette or Akubra Maybe in 10 -15 years time someone will buy it to actually drive this into country/dusty roads/4x4 off road/towing a boat and use it to it's full potential.. I know I sound harsh .. but I see it all the time here in Canberra and travelling around.. Rich people buying high end 4 x 4's just to drive to work each day and not use them to actually use it for it's intended use.. (Apart from Matty - Towing his excavator .. that's badass)
