Flaunting 382 horsepower for 2021, Toyota's GR Supra sports car doesn't make any bold promises for fuel economy. However, a slippery profile and an efficient BMW engine make for impressive numbers.

interesting take, using 89 instead of 93.. for road trips.make sense since you wont be utilizing all the power.. learned a thing or two today thanks!

This car gets seriously good mpg especially on the highway.

I honestly had no idea the Supra could technically take 89.... this is really good to know. I still think I will be putting 91 octane in my 22' once I get it in september but regardless... nice to know lol.

My guess is that it makes the 382 hp with 89 and more on 91/93. These cars all have sensors to determine fuel grade and adjust accordingly. These things chassis dyno at 380-395hp so real crank hp is above 400

Crazy how this got 35 when the mustang gt & wrx got 27 & 28. I was expecting the b58 to do something closer to them.

Wait this can use regular fuel ? Heard it only used 93. Does it damage anything running normal fuel?

You made a comment "this being a BMW it seems to read a bit high" . So the BMW's do not read their speed accurately? Your phone is better at it? I also don't understand why you are saying the average speed for the test was 70mph when you actually set your speed higher at 75mph per car and 73 per your phone. From my experience in my cars every 5 mph over 65 makes a difference of almost 2 mpg.
@erichdamer1312
@erichdamer1312 3 года назад
You can't reach an average of 70 mph by driving 70mph because believe it or not, you need to break, thus going under 70 mph and lowering the average.
@diamondrmp
@diamondrmp 3 года назад
Going over can lower it also because you burn more gas and oh yeah by the way you have to break and it takes more fuel to get back up to a higher speed.
@erichdamer1312
@erichdamer1312 3 года назад
@@diamondrmp do you not understand how averages work? If anything, the fact that the car burns more fuel when going slightly over 75mph is a testimony for how fuel efficient it is as a sportscar.

So the epa tests it’s highway mpg at 80 mph. Makes sense you see a significant gain at 70
@DailyMotor
@DailyMotor 2 года назад
But the EPA averages 48 mph. They only hit higher speeds briefly.

mpg is relative to speed and rpm. the sweat spot for cars is around 48 to 55. Anything more and you start to burn. I don't care what type of care you drive. that is unless you have a 10 speed or a cvt that's able to do real world highway speeds of 65 to 75 mph with stop and go traffic.

@askjrvbjkrfbvhjbdjf Год назад
For a roadtrip, you’re never going that speed. I go 80-90mph and average 35-38mpg

Its not the Supra, its the ZF8. My 700HP F-Type with a ZF8 TCU tune easily averages 40 mpg on level HWY, as the car effortlessly idles at 1100 RPM in 8th at 70 mph, which is geared for 335 mph theoretical top speed. The TCU tune adds 9 mpg as it lowers cruising RPM to as low as 800 by varying clamping force to almost Neutral. That synthetic gear ratio calculates to 700 mph in 8th. If you step on it, it gets as little as 2 mpg.

one shouldnt cut their nose off to spite their face per se' with the gas prices;when youre dropping $57k on a car then playing with cents-to-dollars with gas all to save yourself a whopping $5-10bucks when playing with a high performance car (you have to pay-to-play) on an avrg daily-driver yes 89 all the way,on ANYTHING 'high performance' i think the 89 is risky and frankly cheating the car AND oneself;remember you dropped alot of funds on it why cheap-out with the gas when its thirsty? if gas woes are a concern my advice....pursue another type of car,and not a high performance sports car.
