I have heard it all...how outdated the Tundra is. Yet, i just talked to a guy who was working on his JEEP in a parking lot and got talking to him. He bought a new 2018 RAM and told me at 30 000 kms the engine blew up and then at 60 000 kms the rear diff locked up on the highway. Then there is people i know who have had timing chain failure on their F150 Ecobust. One was my cousin. I have owned a GMC Sierra and it was a big pile of 💩💩💩. So for all you who love to trash Toyota in General...Please...PLEASE keep buying big 3 💩piles...I switched to Toyota....was the single BEST choice I ever made.
@Grunt when i hear techs say the American brands just don't last as long as Japanese brands..... it backs up what everyone keeps preaching. That's probably not true too, huh?
I would but I absolutely want a crew cab and 6.5ft bed. Toyota should add it as an option. Need room for the kids and bed space for hauling stuff. 5.5ft just isnt sufficient. I dont care about a redesign or changes to the powertrain. Just give me a longer bed/cab combo
Not sure why you hate gmc I just sold my 2004 2500HD 225,000 on it the truck had the 6.0 4x4 with the 4L80 the truck was dam good to me pulling 16000 pound excavator and then my 10,000 boat it was a beast sure things broke on the truck like ujoints alternator belt tensionor oh and battery but I fixed it all my self truck never left me on the side of the road worst part of the truck was the ride very stiff as for ford F150 F250 F350 F450 there is a reason they are number 1 in truck sales . All my fiends love them do the fords break yes they do but if you put a tundra in there it would break as well all Machinery has its limits .
I talked to a guy who’s boss had 4 Ram 2500 ‘s the engines blew before 100,000 miles I will never buy a Ram. Told my wife next truck is a Taco or Tundra.
I'm the "if it's not broken, then don't try to fix it" kinda guy. But if Toyota want to stay competitive in the future, then they need more new innovations.
To all the people that say it doesnt have bells and whistles really? How many people use anything more than bluetooth and apple/android car play? If u want to argue it needs more cameras fine but aside from that it has what 99% of what people use. Just remember the more electronics you put in the less reliable it gets
@@gfgneo the more gadgets something has, the more likely for something to go bad and or break. I currently have 3 Toyota. 2002 toyota corolla with 620k miles on it. Drove for a year with a busted radiator and running hot, never left me stranded on the road. 2017 toyota tundra, work truck with 120k miles on it, and no issues so far. My mom 2019 toyota camry. There's a reason why over 80 percent of toyota are still on the road.
@@gfgneo Toyota could be the one to bring reliable electronic upgrades to the market. I wouldnt mind a higher trim level that included higher end amenities/upgrades that they took the time to engineer. If anyone was going to engineer reliable electronics, itd be toyota. Also their powertrain needs an upgrade. V8 with 17mpg is outdated.
Today I test drove gmc 3500 turbo diesel it was amazing but felt lack in quality. It had to many technology and I really got overwhelmed. Love the simplicity of toyota hope they keep it this way
I can’t wait to see what they do in 2022. I’m finally ready to pull the trigger but they need a big time update or I’m going with Ram. Great review as always Ben.
@@Bosha92 I’m 95% sure I’m getting that new F150. It’s got the aggressive GMC Sierra-ish body style plus the Ram like interior. Like I said earlier, if it get anywhere close to 700 miles with their new hybrid setup I’m sold. Ram is definitely a close second for sure.
Watching you go thru those neighborhoods makes me want to take a trip to Utah it's so nice I use to visit a friend years ago seeing those neighborhoods just a reminder of it.
Gone will be the V8 and you’ll soon to get the shitty v6 out of the Taco! Congrats! But don’t worry, it will have a twin turbo.... Which, honestly, I hate that v6 in the Tacoma and I’m nit sure how this will be in a Tundra. Maybe it will be better, but I like the V8.
Love this truck, I have a platinum 2014, no mechanical issues at all. But yes there is a but. I. Loyal to the brand but change needs to happen soon . Engine is indestructible but she drinks to much. And for God sake make a bed 6.5 feet with 4 full doors for us who use it for work!
The army green with all that chrome doesn’t look good. Army green looks good on the trd pro with the badges blacked out and the trd pro grill. Chrome and army green just don’t look as good.
Can you black out chrome aftermarket with this truck. I love army green but, like you, chrome takes away from it...though that front end looks pretty good. "Army" and "chrome" just don't work very well together. I'm confused. Vehicle says TRD on it but it's an SR5, not a Pro?
That truck without the "market adjustment" (whatever the hell that is) is about $47k. That'll get you an F150 STX crew cab without a power seat, no rear opening window, no led lights, but it will include a warping dashboard.
What is really sad is GM FORD FCA can legally sell junk to Americans and Canadians. I used to be stupid and payed for that 💩...then I got wise and switched to Toyota.
If Toyota wants to stay competitive the need to redesign this now. FCA has been doing an amazing job recently with the new RAM 1500 which is why Ford lost its crown for Truck of the Year to it. Beautiful truck and with the new Grand Wagoneer and the RAM TRX, they give GM and Ford a run for their money.
@@AB-yc1np blackout package, convienence and extra safety package, bed liner and a few other things, I got it for the 3500 less than sticker due to employee pricing incitive. 47000
I like the reliability but the absence of diesel engine option and outdated tech is going to be a game-changer. I love my 2018 1794 edition but it sucks at towing big time. My 3.0L diesel SUV tows better than my Tundra. If there is no significant updates in 2022 i will be switching to one of the big 3.
Looks exactly like my 2018. Only thing I saw different was push button start. The estimated fuel mileage is not near actual. Mine get about 17 highway and 13 city. Bring back the supercharger.
I can't take the mpg whining and complaining! I've had 3 Tundras. You can average 15, mixed driving. Not great/ not bad. The more other trucks dangle the 20mpg carrot, the more everyone wants it. I've had Rangers that got worse economy. Friend has a 3.5EB, 10spd. After tune and tires, 15mpg! True, it's faster, but it's also less reliable (spent time at Ford dealer several times). Smiles per gallon, people! I drive 20k/yr. Tundras have NEVER failed me. Also, the old dash and stack are boring, but not in your field of view, looking out over the hood.
Shark Skin true statement. They're the best. Toyota reliability is nothing to be taken lightly. I've driven ram, f150, Silverado, hell even Frontier and titan....Tundra wins my vote every time
People can say whatever they want about style, gadgets, and outdated this and that, but the Toyota Tundra is the most reliable truck period. Who can name a more reliable truck supported by facts!? The Tundra is proven!!
I think they may hit us with a 💣 of new design, by 2022 or the end of 2021. New look maybe bigger engine or have their own version of a 2500 LOL TRD PRO!!!!.
Best truck ever made. My 2012 tundra with 226k miles has original everything including water pump. When comes to reliability tundra has 0 competition. When comes to problematic technology gadgets, look into big 3, because they are stuffed with useless technology problems.
The 5.7l need better efficiency under no payload. The Tundra itself is outdated and in need of some inspiration. Bring the Supercharger back and give the truck a throttle response that it had in 07-09, tap and go....
@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS Besides all that, they have the weakest frames of all trucks. If you want a good truck, look to Ram or Ford, but Ram will soon be outselling Ford trucks soon. My next truck will be a 2021 Ram 1500 Limited. I still own a 2002 F150 Supercrew, good truck, but it's time for a new one, and a new Ram will be in my driveway soon.
RAM-1500 KING OF TRUCKS ... far from it. I’ve had them all and Toyota is the best truck by far after the warranty is over. Yes it’s thirsty, so is every v8.
@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS Back up anything you're saying with facts. Go look at the 2020 Consumer Reports automobile reviews of pickup trucks. Everything negative about the Tundra is said, yet it's still the ONLY pickup truck they recommend buying.
I don’t care if it’s old school because it’s so reliable and the quality is unparalleled! I just hope the revamp isn’t going to be to drastic with to many electronic advances to ruin the quality...
Tough choosing between this or a limited Ram. Just want to make sure I get the most for 50k+. Everyone might be screaming reliability but I Believe that anything that’s properly maintained will be reliable.
I’ve owned 6 Rams and still a fan of them but they’re not as reliable as a Tundra. The tundra will last longer for the powertrain, electronics and the interior. Just traded my 07 for a new 2020. Only replaced the starter on my 07 250k hard miles. If you’re only going to keep 2-3 years get the Ram. 10+ like I’m planning on Tundra.
I really like the Toyota. Tundra he just said what I have been looking for don't need all those fancy do dad's just a basic truck. That's what I want I'm going to be searching for a Toyota Tundra he just made up my mind for me
I understand that its supposed to be reliable and durable but can Toyota at the very least update the materials or something? Jesus, add some extra lines to the door panels or even put a new shape for the door handles....anything! Like c'mon
So many outdated comments. Same truck as the 07. Not true. Just traded my 07 for a 2020. Really like the ride I feel its on par with my friends new Chevy and he agrees. Looked at the domestics not sure what a guy wants for an interior? Something pretty? Im outdoorsman and I want reliability over anything else. And that’s where the tundra delivers. Mileage? You lose a couple MPG to the domestics. Guys say they only get 13-14 mpg. Not sure how it’s that bad? Big aftermarket tires? I get that pulling my boat. I’ve achieved 19-20 mpg 4 different times open road easy driving. Anyway if you want a good looking long term truck the Tundra is tops.
Drive my 13Tundra from CT back to MN. Got 16mpg in the hills, once the road flattened out, i got 18mpg going average 65-70mph. That's not bad at all. I think though the MPG could need increased if the throttle mapping wasn't so touchy. Leave it a nice 1:1 and it should be better driving around town.
My Grandpa has a 2011 TRD Rock Warrior and it's an absolute beast. For some reason though, he peeled the TRD Rock Warrior badge off… I still haven’t asked him why..
I've got say...today I went to toyota dealer to test drive a tundra 2021... currently I have a f150 lariat 2019...and I was really curious about the Tundra ..and I got inside the Tundra limited and I asked to the salesman " where is the electrical rear side mirror control? " He said " it's manual"..so the limited version has no electrical rear side mirror...ok Them I engaged the truck and started my journey...the engine sounds like was going to explode...and the ride was really hard...terrible suspension...I was in six gear and it just didn't make sense how high was the rpm for 60mph...the seats very uncomfortable comparing to my Lariat... the engine can't be compared with my v8 coyote which is so smooth and build up power so linear and precisely...I know that a lot Tundra guys here...but there's no way this truck can even be compared with f150...you can say it's gonna last 500k miles...but I wouldn't last that long with it... there's a reason f150 sells 5 times more... Tundra is far behind...and them I went to test drive a 4runner which I think is beautiful looking SUV...same situation as Tundra...slow and heavy weak engine...I just got the temporary conclusion that toyota is very comfortable seating on the reputation of being reliable...but they need watch out...cause the competitors are coming strong...end of history I'm going to get a new f150lariat.. even the salesman felt embarrassed when he answered my observation about this points. Again please don't get me wrong but I feel like Toyota is more about heart than reason...just go to the consumer reports and other specialized website and see about the reviews...I think this passion between toyota and their fans has a limit..cause I don't think has love bigger enough to spend $52k in a dinosaur like this 2 cars... PS: when I got back my F150 my God I told my wife we are happy but we didn't know...
Have to laugh at "Market Adjustment" Hence, Dealership Mark Up over MSRP😉 I've been pricing them for months and that one in my area MSRP is about $45,500.00 USD without the $2500.00 combined Toyato Discounts for Nov. Going tomorrow to finish the paperwork on the exact same truck. Wanted the TRD PRO but wasn't willing to spend $55,000.00+ USD and Toyota won't discount any TRD PRO Models.
They need to make the crewmax available with 6.5 bed and redo the interior making it more up to date like Chevy, Ford and Dodge. The only benefit of Toyota is the known reliability.
ME: I want one of these Other Me: Sorry you cant afford them ME: But I want one of these Other Me: Go get a job ME: But I still want one of these Other Me: Wow too pricey!!! ME: I dont care I want one of these Other Me: That is almost mortgage money ME: Screw that Im going to the Dealer now!!!!! Other Me: Stop watching RU-vid Videos about Tundra!!!!
love the back window wish all trucks ram , ford would do that but what's the weight & m. p. g. compare to the rams , ford to me trundra looks heavier and less mpg
They're gonna put the v8 out, so who has the v8 will have a big deal on resale as 2021 it's gonna be last year of the v8 ....that's will be my next truck I bought a f150 2019 last year Lariat trim level, is a nice truck v8 , but that 10 speed transmission I can't take it..it pumps all the time going back and forward...I just don't feel it's gonna last...
Hi Ben, what is taking Toyota so long to release the exciting new Trail Edition & TRD Pro trucks that customers are waiting for ? I haven’t seen any new 2021 trucks yet in Northern California Dealerships, except for Several Texas dealerships . I have noticed more SR5s than anything else. By the time they come out with the upgraded ones it will be too late to purchase one .
I only 1 thing to say Ford , GM and Ram and this is coming from myself and I'm on my third ford they are nothing but all Junk !!! Go and buy the Toyota they are the most reliable and always will be . My 2019 F 150 with the 5.0 is burning oil, front differential was leaking , now the oil sensor is gone . Only 6000 kilometers on this truck what a pile of crap ! And my friends I know people who own the other brands and they are crap as well !
Two things I like about this truck: the back window & it’s built in the U.S.. Ford, GM, & Ram do pickups better IMO. Ben, you may know already, Adblock for Safari doesn’t work anymore. Good for you, bad for your viewers. So your ad revenue should go up. (I skip ads when it’s an option, unfortunately all those obnoxious political ads I can’t skip.)
You know. You don’t have to buy all the tech in the domestic vehicles..you all act like every truck has gobs of tech in them. They make basic trucks in lower trim levels, but at least you can get that tech if you want it in American trucks. Last 2 I’ve bought have been good trucks with the Ram and now Chevy. Will they last as long as a Toyota? Probably not. But it could at the same time...just buy what you like and what makes you happy. Tundras get crap gas milage and that’s one thing that helped me decide on a truck. But they are all good
It’s outdated and a not comfortable. The value question is one up for debate... the mpgs killed me when I had mine. I put 100k on it and got 16mpg. Don’t lecture me on truck mpgs not mattering it’s 2020... I didn’t hate my truck but I got a 2.7 ecoboost Ford. It’s a lower trim level than my Tundra was but Yota doesn’t haven’t as many levels and it was from 2013 so things changed little(tech wise) I will discover if I traded mpgs for reliability since I only did maintenance and brakes/tires on my Tundra. Nissan probably offers more in terms of value for the buck but will Nissan be a going concern truck wise in five years? Idk. The v8 was powerful and I thought sounded pretty good stock. Get a used one and save some $$$.
I trade my limited tundra for a Ram limited is a world difference... don’t take me wrong I love toyota last forever and keeps the value up. But Ram has the panoramic roof the air ride suspension the ice coolers under the floors way too many things to mention.. etc etc etc
@@christiansookdeo8306 I never have bought truck. He makes reference to chrome delete on front end. How easy is that to do with a truck? Is that "delete" that common and is there a ready aftermarket for blacked out grill, etc? I heard that if you're going to hardly ever go off road, that SR5 with sports package (20" wheels) in a better even than Pro as far as ride comfort.
Curious: Have you looked underneath at the rear axle housing designs between pickups? I believe that Ford, Nissan, Chevy, and Dodge all use a cast differential center with two tubes pressed in. Toyota uses a design with the pieces welded together. If you have any information on the variance and why they chose that route, I'd be interested to know. Any pros/cons to the unique design.
As a truck newbie who is lining one up, could you explain pros and cons of crew vs double cab? My situation is unmarried, no kids, retired, not likely hauling a bunch of people, not big outdoors guy. One concern is maybe limiting myself so I can't access all sports packages; that is, maybe crew required to get various sport packages (I haven't checked that out).
Interior looks like it's from 2005, the only good thing about the Tundra is its reliable, but it's only reliable because they've been building the same truck for 12 years.
No one could have seen into the future at the time of this video. But let’s leap ahead to the future (04/26/22) and accept that by and large, the ‘22 Tundra is a BIG FAIL !
