Honestly was always rooting for Magnus off the start and still am but after watching every game and multiple recaps I’ve gained so much respect for Nepo he fought hard created many chances and even held on for so long in that game 6 loss I really feel for him after this game while I hope Magnus still wins I really wish nepo gains a win or something to boost his confidence

I won't criticise Ian, when he got the seat to play I thought he would be the least challenging of all Magnus' opponents for the WC title but over the last year he's put in some really solid performances and raised his stock. He's up against the GOAT and if he can pick himself up he could definitely get a game off Magnus and make this tighter

The press conference was hilarious Magnus: roughly what he said about what he was thinking after b5 (or whatever the pawn move blunder from Ian was), “I thought I was a blunder… but uh, I had a lot of time so I thought I’d see if I could find what he was going for… but uh… it turns out it was nothing.” Ian’s face after he said that was priceless Then there was a moment when Ian was talking about chances in the opening, and Magnus corrected him on something. He and Magnus started discussing the position in the middle of the questioning while Ashley was just 😑 stuck in the middle with the most funny face Also happy birthday. Lots of content eh?

I will say that not everyone was happy with Qe1 after the press conference. Cuz Magnus said that even after 40 min of thinking all he wanted was a draw, and thought Ian would capture it. Seems both of them hadn't completed recovered after game 6.

Hi Levy, I am an older person, and I used to play the Petroff Defense. You were saying that 1. P-K4 P-K4 2. N-KB3 N-KB3 3. P-Q4, then NxP, is the main line for Black, in response to P-Q4. The P-Q4 is called, the Steinitz Variation, though, actually played before Steinitz. When I learned this Defense, from "Chess Openings: Theory and Practice," by I.A. Horowitz, the main line for Black in response to P-Q4 was PxP, then pushing the P to P-K5. 1. P-K4 P-K4 2. N-KB3 N-KB3 3. P-Q4 PxP 4. P-K5 N-K4 5. QxP P-Q4 6. PxP NxQP. Wikipedia, is also calling this the main line, yet, the line that GM Nepo plays is also played in Master's games. I was well aware of the Q-K2 for White, it is just that people I seemed to play would go for the Four Knight's game, or would play a Queen, or English Opening, so I seldom saw the actual variation played. If one steps back and analizes what happened here, GM Nepo could have played for a Draw with slightly more precise play, and go for a win next with the White pieces. I think this is still a good choice of a Black Defense.

On a Super-GM level this game is a shocking display by Nepomniachtchi, his nerves seem to be completely gone. What a pitty, because so far the match was on an incredibly high level! Let's hope that the rest of the match will feature some energetic attempts by Ian to come back!

Listening to Hammer and Tari on one of the Norwegian broadcasts, they were critical of the move, but also very empathetic to Ian's situation. They have been there themselves to a degree, blundering on the (if not quite as) big stage in something you've spent your entire life working for.

This was a bit of a painful game to watch honestly,even though I'm glad that Magnus won,I can't help but feel sorry for Nepo

I've never commented here before - I just started watching chess RU-vid a couple of weeks ago. (Played a lot of chess as a kid, but it's been several decades since then.) But I've been enjoying your videos a lot over the past couple of weeks, so I wanted to wish you a happy birthday.

We knew at an early age that Carlsen had Fischer-level talent. What we didn't know is that he was born with mental MMA-level doggedness. I'm pretty sure he scares the crap out of his opponents as the end game begins. He will not quit, or give anything. Ever. What a champion....soon again.
