Magnus showing he is the better player now. Very Lasker-esque, playing the moves his opponent won't like over the objectively best moves. Nepo is psyched out!
0:25 ok i'm not a super GM or anything, but why does ben finegold assume magnus had some prep here because position was dead equal after qe7? magnus is fine with dead equal he was up by one game, and gaining another draw would put him one game closer to victory. its nepo who does not want to be dead equal
careless play by Nepo, too lazy to check everything thoroughly and he paid the price for it, also there is no way a GM sees the Queen check but misses the very same Queen is attacking his hanging Bishop, he just didn't check that far and assumed the move should be good.
At this point it's safe to say that Magnus has successfully defended his title. After he won against Caruana in 2018 magnus said it was the toughest WCC he ever had although he never lost or trailed in that match eventho he trailed against Karjakin in the previous WCC. Imo Ian was everything but a solid/boring player. I remember when Magnus was asked to make a soccer team with 11 best chess players of all time he included Karpov, Petrosian and to my surprise Giri (as a goalkeeper) in it. Carlson highly rated those names I mentioned above which although I may not agree with the stereotype but those players are again players with solid/boring style confirmed by lots of chess fans in the chess world.
I wasn't the biggest Nepo fan going in, but I do like that he at least tried to press for a victory. Carlsen is probably the worst player to be up against when you need to take some chances. Carlsen will likely win but I am hoping for Nepo to take a game before it is over.
After blundering the pawn to B5; Ian went to the bathroom to regroup himself......Instead of his return to the board he sent out "Mr. Conway Bieber" to finish the endgame instead. He then serenaded Magnus with "I see the want to in your eyes...."
