Damn, I didn't actually realise how my opinion of both of these had changed over the years, until just now, when I read you put it like that. On point hahaha
Frankie seems to be a lot better now but damn was he a menace back in his flow days. He was the dude who would see you trying a trick, snake you, and then do that trick first try
One of the best things anyone had ever done for me was give me legit critical advice of some of my skate clips. This level of detail is what is missing when people review street parts (Looking at you nine club 😉). Nice video! It is fun to hear what people really think about street parts.
Milton's entry is exactly what I'd expect from a real street part! Either all hammers like his or crazy creative stuff. You didn't talk about the filming / editing and overall vibe much, but that's part of the judging aswell. The filmers are even getting medals and all that when a part gets top3
I sometimes mention filming, but since I can’t listen to the song because of youtube copyright it’s difficult for me to go into the editing unfortunately.
Hahah yea shit was buck. For sure my favorite clip in his part. I liked the snap out to regs too. I’m all about a more basic trick that looks amazing then the craziest shit. I mean I’m 30 and have been skating for 20 years so I appreciate all types of skating. It’s fucking mind blowing the level skating is at now. The shit people do fairly easy now days would literally of been considered impossible 15 years ago. After all these years it’s almost like nothing can surprise me anymore because at this point it would take a lot for me to think something was impossible.
It's so hard to Judge because the styles between Milton and like berger for instance are so different ....but Milton is in his own league when it comes to hammers noone is touching him right now .....I think ur scoring was fair and correct
loved the video and everything prior! would be sick to get first reactions for parts instead of you having seen them beforehand when you go over parts i think that adds another layer to the review
In the frankly Spears part you said Suciu a couple times they skate together a lot and if I’m not mistaken did the cross country trip together where mark dropped his last part so his tricks looking similar would make sense
Because skateboarding has gotten to a point where a board sponsor is not as important as a shoe/clothing sponsor. That’s why you have so many big pros riding for homie companies. Boards aren’t where the check is anymore
I thought a lot of the same things when I was watching these, but I actually ended up picking Ducky cos his bag of tricks and creativity scratch a lot of the right itches for me
God damn, Milton is a crazy person. I know everyone goes wild over the car wash kickflip, but that freeway scene in this part is so gnarly. I could be wrong but I think there's a massive drop on the other side of that railing. The possibility of actual death from something going wrong is very high. I'm glad he won
I think you’re totally right about the throw away aspect of the real street vids. I mean even since it’s creation I always wondered what the real incentive to putting together an absolute banger for real street is, given how long it takes to actually put together a banger vid. I think it would be a lot cooler if they all had a certain time frame In which to film their vids, to hopefully eliminate the throwaway clip aspects of it. Maybe they already do that but I don’t think so.
I think a lot of the complaints in this video can be attributed to the fatigue that the skate industry, specifically the pro's in the industry, are feeling. I feel like these days with IG and now tiktok, pros are forced to take the "quantity over quality" approach and this is bleeding into the more core side of skating, where you have really talented pros kinda 'phoning it in' due to fatigue cause they know they have to go film 5 more clips that day for some IG ad.
matt berger isnt front nose blunting, he is grinding in a front crook, if you look at the view from behind him you can see the wheel is locked in and grinding before he does the pop out heelflip
Hot take: I think Milton is kinda overrated. He gets gnar for sure but his style is kinda wack, bag of tricks not very deep. There’s plenty of people doing gnarly wall rides and crazy kinked rails and making them look good as well. Idk he just doesn’t do it for me, although I definitely see how everyone loves him so much. Also not a fan of his kinda blatant disregard for other people’s property, pretty lame in my opinion.
I’m not really a huge fan either, I think it’s criminal he won SOTY over Suciu. In this context though I think his part was easily the best, I bet if you look at that freeway off ramp he kickflipped in real life it would look ridiculously huge
I think Milton saw the car and tried his best to not get smoked I think the toe touch was inevitable but he would have sketchily rolled out if it wasn’t for the minivan
19:18 bigspin front board grab out...... wasn't that the BIG ollie that Jamie Thomas did over the whole bank towards the end of his dying to live part??????
I don’t know how people survive skating in converse …. I mean the board feel would be amazing however it’s just short of bare footing it . In the ones I’ve had previously anyways
Skateboarding is too subjective to say a skater should have done so and so trick on a spot. Criticizing the kooks and sellouts is one thing, but contests have multiple judges for a reason.
They maybe don’t care if have the time to do a x games 21 real street part. Maybe they all know it’s easy money and so no one is willing to get too buck as everyone else will have to work that much harder and more on their plate??RS always lackluster. Besides save the real stuff for real videos and real skaters. Idk 🤷🏽♂️
i know i am late to this - you have some very fair constructive criticism. if anyone disagrees (it seems you have felt the need to apologise or shed full disclosure saying 'i'm not a jerk..they can be better' etc)..they could otherwise experience going to art/architecture/design school..laying down your best intentions, creatively/mentally you have put yourself through the grinder for 4 weeks, and having your heart punched (outwards, back inside..out the other side-repeatedly) by four people offering 'constructive criticism'..but in doing so, it ends up being a show of whose academic penis is harder than the others'. and three of the people on the panel are women. i think professional skateboarders have it pretty good - and some blunt feedback will only enrich the culture. if not at least encourage authenticity.
@@ricardo_islam314 I just cant get with "nosegrinds aren't possible." If anything, thats just how you do nosegrinds on rails and fs overcrooks arent a thing.
