LOL - sounds like my internal review after I got my Decoy. It's a whole new sport. Suddenly all those hilly places near me were fun again. Sure, I can ride them on my acoustic Canyon Spectral... but I OWN them on the decoy and can do about twice the mileage and hit the fun downhills a few times because the climb back up doesn't kill me. Oh, and my girlfriend is now hooked on riding because she rides the Decoy when we ride together and it really just takes all the pain out of MTB.
Sick review. The only thing that kept me from personally buying this bike was the smaller battery. I ended up going with a commencal, I use every bit of the 630wh battery on my regular ride so I couldn't afford to go any smaller. Like everything else about the yt though.
Good review. I've been loving my Decoy Shred too. I rode several bikes with the EP8 and the rattle would drive me crazy. Seems like performance wise there's not much in it, although the EP8 is lighter. Most of my rides are after work / not much time (I ride my normal bike at the weekend). Trails are all grind up fireroad / double track and then steep tech down. Bike handles great despite being much (40mm) shorter reach then my normal bike. If I boost everywhere I get around 25km / 1200m / 1.5 hours. Eco / trail I have done 35km / 1400m / 5+ hours and still had battery to spare. It's brilliant for towing, but this obviously reduces range. Only downsides so far really have been the Codes taking many, many bleeds to get right and the fact the the water bottle from YT is a ridiculous price.
Also, upgraded to 220mm rotors which really helped the brakes. I will eventually swap to some Magura MT5 I have though, but I looked at the cable routing and it gave me the fear.😅
Great video Chris! Happy to hear your thoughts on YT too. I had an opportunity in mid July to test ride a Capra Race at my local bike park. I couldn’t stop thinking about how much fun I had on it and ordered one 2 days later without much research. So glad I did! Pretty sure my next N+1 will have a motor. 👍. If Bosch is the industry leader, how does the Shimano motor compare?
Great bike. I got the YT DECOY ELITE. Absolutely love it. I also run cush cores. I run less pressures. 20ish lbs. The bike is very forgiving. Enjoy. Where were you riding?
Got mine 2 weeks ago and loving it as well. I agree about the brakes. Will be ordering some RSC levers and have already installed the 220mm rotor up front. I ordered the shred for a lot of reasons...one of which was that it comes with aluminum wheels (which mine has and they're very light!). I'd double check yours as I'd really be surprised if they were carbon. Having said that I ordered an XL which should've had the 500lb spring but was delivered with a 450lb spring...so anything is possible. Great vid! Cheers
@@canyon93108 The XL is a pretty big bike. At 6ft id probably get the large. This is going to be my trail and DH bike so I went XL for stability. I'm 6'2" and it fits pretty well. Sure I'd have been just as happy on the large though.
I'd really like to pick up a Shred too. Sold out. Good parts spec and simple design. Its got almost everything I've been looking for. They're very popular bikes for the price. But.... YT's customer service reputation is very bad. Tons of reviews about not returning emails, parts failures and other issues. The fact that they have poor service and no shop support is making me look elsewhere.
Dope review, but this isnt a 2021 bike, this is a 2020, 21's have not been released yet, supposedly Feb 2021. This bike does not come with E13 carbon wheels, it comes with E13 Espec Plus wheelset. Either way, super rad bike, was planning on getting a 2020 in November and MF'ers were out of stock and have been since....thats what I get for hesitating. Wont be hesitating in 2021 though. Stay rad man! Thanks for sharing!
Nice vid. Yor bike cost more than my truck. After bumping into you near Crestline. You got my M.B. juices flowing again. Hit some fire road trails with my Brother. Hard packed with splotches of sand pits (phooey). Had its great moments of speed and riding on the edge. My Brother had full face helmet and a chest gaurd. Got home with his face busted up and 3 broken ribs. Had to take him to emergency. Besides him getting F'd up, I had a blast. I'm getting back in the game! PEACE
I honestly have no idea. Depends on so many things. How hard you’re pedaling, how much you’re relying on the motor, what mode you’re in. Stuff like that. But it does last a long time. Hasn’t died on me yet.
I'd like to know how plush it vs. true VPP, DW, or FSR/Horst link suspension. I'm really looking for a plush, planted bike for technical terrain. The ebike platform is nice and a fun way to get to the top. But Im still more concerned with the linkage quality
I dont think the wheels on this are carbon. I believe they're the e13 aluminum. The 2019 Pro had carbon wheels, but I believe that these newer models do not. =)
I have run out before! Mainly from forgetting to charge it 😅 It has an eco, trail and boost mode. I keep it mainly in trail mode and boost when the climb gets really rough. Boost kills it about twice as fast as trail mode does. You could multiple laps in trail mode and only go down 1 bar. It lasts quite a while!
@@nathanfriesen3027 honestly it’s a bit hard to give an exact time the battery lasts. It all depends on how much you depend on the power of the motor. That’s the best I can explain it. Hope that helps!
More than happy! Unfortunately, there is like 40 centimeters of snow here in Germany right now, so nothing much to ride.. but the time I rode it it was awesome! Tbh, mine was scheduled 3 or 4 times 🤣
The carbon wheels did come with the normal! The range is quiet good. There is quiet a difference in power from trail to boost mode, so boost burns it faster. But if you're smart about it will easily last you all day.
@@chrisbucci looking at the YT page, the shred comes with aluminium wheelset, the Pro race comes with carbon ones. So if you got it with carbon wheels from YT you are in luck :) They must have shipped it with the wrong wheelset. So climbing in in boost lile the vid, how long would you recon a full battery would last?
Interesting. I must've gotten lucky then. Depends how much you are using the motor. If its in boost mode and you are doing some really steep climbing with heavy motor use. But you turn it off for descents, probably 3 hours. Just depends how hard you are pushing it.
@@chrisbucci thanks for the replies, and a great vid. Looks really slick. Im really considering getting one now that they are in stock in over here again.
@@marklopez5267 I love it. I have replaced a couple of parts, but it'd amazing. So good on the downhills. The only thing I would wish for is a bigger battery. The 2022 Reign E looks amazing. Smaller motor with the same power and maybe a 720 battery.
Canyon Spectral On is very similar to this bike though. Very good looking, same motor and power, and similar geometry. So yeah the choice is ultimately yours, I hope you love whichever you buy 👍 I have the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo and personally I can’t go back to any other brand. It is so seamless, you can’t go wrong. Anyways welcome to the family haha
no way these are carbon wheels, i have both carbon and alloy e13 wheels and they look like alloy wheels. also carbon ones are "bigger" and have no aggresive egde in them
I had realized that after I posted the video! The look and feel of their allow wheels are so similar to their carbon wheels, they had me fooled. Even to the touch they are VERY similar. Honest mistake!
