This is a quick video that combines comments on the Esquif Adirondack 12' Solo Pack Boat, the Hunter and Harris Ottertail paddle and a short section of the Ipswich River.
I did paddle the boat with a double bladed paddle in true pack boat fashion, but forgot (old guy) to include comments in the narrative. It handles very well. I used the bow thwart as a foot brace - if double blade is what you usually use you'd probably want to install a set. The seat is hung low enough to be comfortable using the double blade, but high enough for me to kneel wearing a pair of neoprene water shoes - it would be a challenge if the had heels. If you're a person who paddles kneel, make sure you fit.
I'd appreciate any feedback and will try to respond promptly to any questions.

Love mine ! I have always been solo in a 16 ' Mad River Explorer, or a 17 ' Old Town Tripper So this feels like a play boat. Been exploring Some Columbia River Slough's and Wild life Refuge areas . I discovered how well a double blade works in Windy conditions in this little pack Boat, although I prefer Traditional paddles . This is a great addition to my fleet !

I like your reviews. And the mini paddles make me very jealous (-6 this morning here, Delaware, Ohio and no open water)

Very nice boat and review. Is the Adirondack stable enough to stand in to scout upcoming rapids or cast?

Thanks. Stable enough to stand in - yep. Casting - sorry, not a fisherguy, so can't answer with any credibility - I'll ask around and get back to you...

Was just looking around and saw you posted the same question to the David Hadden review - he's the distributor rep and the guy I was going to ask. If you don't get a post back, let me know and I'll bug him.

How long is your double end paddle? Do you find you are hitting your knuckles on the gunwales at all?
@whiterosecanoe1424

Not long enough... I was using a 230cm. Carried a lot of water into the boat and had to reach side to side. Bending Branches recommendation for a boat between 29" and 33" and a paddler over 6ft + is a 250cm - which sounds right. The Adirondack's seat is raised off the floor of the canoe and the boats fairly shallow (13" center depth), so I don't think knuckle banging would be an issue - I didn't experience it. Hope that helps. Keith

How well does it track? I am wanting a solo canoe for fishing and wilderness camping.

Hi Jay. The Esquif Adirondack tracks well for a 12' canoe. By that I mean that a short solo canoe is going to yaw a bit with each stroke. It's very controllable and handles the wind well. Here's a link to another video showing an Adirondack rigged for fishing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AVqrQIZmYhM.html Hope that helps.

Do you think there is enough room to fit a child in the front?

Sorry for the long delay in responding.... Yes, there is space for a small child in the bow.

I wonder if I could order one without those stupid ropes drilled in the hull? So wrong to do that when you can tie a rope to the end grab handles.
@whiterosecanoe1424

We checked and the short answer is "No". Esquif considers the grab loops to be an essential safety feature and includes hem on all of their canoes.

@@whiterosecanoe1424 Well thanks for checking that out. I don't agree with their view on that and will buy something else.
