I get out for an overnight fishing trip and find that there's nowhere good for camping, so I attempt to sleep in my canoe.

Hi everyone, thanks for watching! This video was filmed from May 30th to 31st. The reason I say this is because, on the afternoon of May 30th, Nova Scotia implemented a province-wide ban on all activities in the woods due to extremely dry conditions and the risk of forest fires. During the time of this update, I was already in the woods without cell reception and did not become aware of the ban until I returned to cell reception the morning of May 31st. In the future, I will have a better communication protocol during times of uncertainty. Stay safe everyone!

Only 5 minutes in, but it must be noted that without knowing of the actual ban you still had the knowledge and respect for the land to not even touch fire for your own use. Props to you.

I just read the news about the Quebec fire leaving ash that is reaching my city in Norway, and here you are with a new video and local update. Internet is amazing. Oh and, what would you do if woken by a bear while jammed down into your canoe? 😅

If you're planning on sleeping in the canoe again, maybe attach the yoke with wing nuts. Then you could remove it easily while sleeping and reinstall it the next morning. Not surprised you got cold. The water temp would rob a lot of heat from your body. I slept on an unheated waterbed once. Coldest night's sleep I ever had. Removing the yoke would make more room to put more insulation between you and the water. But, in the summer, it might also keep you cool with the night temperature doesn't drop. Thanks for sharing your experience, it was interesting.

Hi Noah! Not sure if someone has already said this but if you replace the nuts on your thwart with wing nuts you can easily remove your centre thwart for sleeping or replacing when doing overnight trips.

Hey man, Nice video !! really cool idea to sleep in your boat, I'm sure if you made the Yoke removable, and possibly one of the seats, you could probably have a much better sleep. This reminded me of a young guy I used to watch 10 years ago on RU-vid, American kid, I think his channel name was 1godsmarine, or Onegodsmarine.... he doesn't make videos anymore but he had a whole thing he'd set up and sleep in his canoe, Im sure his videos are still up if you wanted to check them out. not sure it would be too practical for solo camping and portaging. thanks for sharing, Cheers !

And now for something totally different 😂😂. Hope you didn’t have to pee quickly. Love the sound of the peepers. The canoe on the water would make it colder. Glad the fires are calming down. I was in algonquin last week and a total fire ban. Nice canoe and video

Next time, if you have a tarp or something to cover the canoe as well, that might help keep heat in between your sleeping bag and the canoe. Your breathing should be enough to keep it a few degrees higher than the outside air

I once slept in a canoe. I had no tent, made a fire, slept well by the fire till about 2-3 am then a cold front came in so I went into the canoe behind some rocks to get out of the wind. Definitely did not sleep but was much warmer. Would have been better off taking the canoe up on shore and use as a wind break I think. It was an aluminum canoe and I had no pad on this outward bound trip 1998 ish.

I am thinking the trout will hang out a bit longer with all this rain we just got. I was thinking the trout were about to give it up and have even tied a few popping bugs for my fly line trying simple 2mm foam cut in strips with some tails and legs. but then we got this rain, and I will be trying for more trout. You got a deal with that avo. Esquif makes this same boat cut down along the rails lowering the profile they call it the Huron comes in even a little lighter. but that Prospector would be better in bigger water. We had some smoke haze from those fires up your way. I hear Toronto/Quebec has a bunch of fires going as well?

And yes so much fire on Quebec, we crosfinger and hope we will be able to make our canoe trips in july and august. Sleeping in a canoe, hum not sure, as a side slipper it will pay for me to put wind nut on the yoke and remove it. So hope all the fire will end soon.

Wow I grew up going camping and fishing with my parents my dad always caught his limit I had no idea that trout only eat a couple months a year I’ve also seen my dad use some lures that really ticked off the trout and they would hit the lures with there tales and get caught it looks funny bringing in a fish backwards. I guess fish have changed throughout the years there now dieting in the summer so they can wear a swimming suit or maybe it’s like my dad always told me trout like colder water so if it’s hot you have to fish deeper in the water where the fish are hanging out and not on the top and close to the banks
