Wow! I lost track of you for several years and the progression you've made as a journalist is profound! Excellent, excellent job. FWIW, we have 4 Aprilia's now: 2018 Dorsodoro, 2022 RS660, 2022 Tuono 660 Factory, and just picked up a 2022 Tuono V4 Factory (this is my 2nd V4). Your review is spot on but, I will say that when you actually own the bike and want to learn everything about it, the electronics become a lot more intuitive. I'm not saying it doesn't take a minute but to get out of Challenge (aka one of the Race Modes), one only has to press and hold the right arrow button and go to "Vehicle" and switch from Race to Road. Then, the bottom right button under the starter switch will allow you to change to the different modes. Yes, that's a lot of different button pushes there so, again, I agree with you that it's not intuitive when you first jump on. Being an owner and having played with the bikes and read the manual, it's really not too bad and to have the options that these menus give you actually increases the value of these wonderful bikes that much more. If you're ever in the College Station area, let me know and we'll show you around some of our twisties. Take care.

Fair and accurate review. I picked up my Tuono 660 Factory in early August. I have around 1700 miles on it and absolutely love it. Don’t worry Yam, I have confidence in you to figure out the ride modes. I do prefer the standard spedo over the track lap timer, so it was a little bummed that you didn’t show that. One of my only frustrations is that neutral has a mind of its own as you demonstrated. I look forward to seeing your track day on it and what upgrades you will do. Thanks for the video!

I'm glad to know neutral isn't just finicky on my bike! Some days it'll go into neutral first try. Some days I have to shift up and down 15 times to get it into neutral. Awesome bike though. Got mine mid July. Already have 5,500 miles on it!

@@Dooby0071 I think it depends on your experience level prior. Did you ride dirt bikes, take a beginner rider safety course, etc. It is a spicy meatball but if you keep the wheelie control on and start in commute mode you should be ok. I bought one of these this summer and I absolutely love it. Everything Yammie says is true. Neutral is hard to find. Menu system unintuitive. Everything else is excellent in my experience. Way better than other similarly priced options here in the UK. We also get the smoked screen and integrated front indicators which make the bike look even better. It’s my first Italian bike after a Honda and a Yamaha and the first 1250 miles I’ve put on it have been great.

I have a 2021 RS 660 and I still can't get over how good it sounds with the standard exhaust. Which should not even be possible with all the rules and regulations we have nowadays! I used to own a GSXR-750 (non-fuel injected) back in the day and this is so much smaller and more nimble it is almost chocking. It also does not feel like riding a handgranade with the safety-pin out. Which makes it the perfect returning sportbike rider bike :) I will probably only upgrade mine to a factory edition if that feels significantly different.

i just got back from testing a few bikes. mt09, mt10 and this tuono 660. and by all bike the 660 is the "weakest" but i felt at home when sitting on it. on the mt09 i drove it for 3 hours and i was still feeling uneasy in the corners. the mt10 felt more stable but its to poerful. however the 660 took me maybe 1 hour of riding before i felt ocnfident on it. i could pin the throttle and shift my body a little bit. it also felt the most stable and predictable in the corners copared to the other bikes. also i could lock the steering at full turn after a little bit of riding which im usually not used to even on my current bike which ive ridden for 40k km. altough thats my experience from only 4-5 hours of riding it for the first time, i would say at least 1000km on a bike before u get to "know it". But im pretty sure the tuono 660 will be my next bike.

I have watched this review about 8 times now, and ultimately decided to buy a 2022 Tuono 660 Factory. This is an excellent review of this motorcycle, save for the griping about the electronics. As a moto-journalist, you'd want to have a basic understanding of the electronics before you offer your opinion. Yes, if you sit on the bike cold, it would take some fiddling to figure it out. But a quick RU-vid instructional video or even reading the manual would show you how easy it to operate the electronics. All this is to say, don't let the griping about the electronics dissuade you from considering this motorcycle. If anything, the fact that you have to go to an Aprilia dealer to get the d@mn service light reset is a far worse of a negative against this bike.

Hey, man! Thanks for the review! I think you might be the one who has some answers to my questions. I could say I am a beginner in the bike world, with only a few thousand km on board. I am planning to buy a new bike. My first real bike. And for the moment, the struggle is between the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory. I just drove a Ninja yesterday and what I absolutely loved was the driving position. As you said, you could maybe drive hours without any problems. Unfortunately, I cannot test the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory as they don't have it for demos. My question is.. how do you find the position on the Tuono 660 Factory compared to the one on Ninja? Which one is more comfortable? is it more upright or on the contrary a bit more lean forward on Aprilia? ANd what about wind protection at high speeds? With the Ninja 650 I was surprised how decent I felt. I am not sure if I will have the same feeling on Aprilia. Regarding electronics and performance, maybe even looks, no doubt Aprilia wins. But the ergonomy and wind protection seem to be pretty important for me. Thanks in advance!

I loved this bike but itnnot having the low end torque makes it a no go for me. I'm not trying to be the track guy. I want a quick, torquey little nimble bike. That honda hornet is looking good to me

The neutral is a mess. Found that it s easier to put in neutral while slowly rolling to the stop (before coming to a halt). The modes are super simple, took 2 mins for the guy at the shop to explain, don’t be that lazy.

I can not understand. I have 2x 660 and neutral gear is perfect on both. As a TIP, a shift shaft should improve this.

Honestly have wanted the Tuono 660 ever since I first laid my eyes on it. Have been commuting on a z400 for 3k miles now and felt it would be the perfect replacement. Light enough to handle in traffic, rider modes for when I get rained out, cruise control when I have to ride 2 hours just to get to the mountain twisties, some basic fairings to take the edge off wind, looks that make me drool, and a price point that makes me want it more than a mt 09sp. Un-fucking-fortunately it seems that this bike and Aprilia in general has a abysmal record in terms of dependability. Browsing owners forums, it seems inevitable that something catastrophic will happen to the bike. Oil leaks, coolant leaks, breaking connecting rods, electric malfunctions, the list is endless. And given supply chain issues, parts take months! My bike is my only form of trabsportarion, and I’m fucking heartbroken I can’t replace my trusted z400 with the tuono 660 😢. And what’s even more infuriating is how motorcycle manufacturers haven’t responded to the rs660 or tuono 660. I was up late for intermot and eicma hoping there would be a challenger to Aprilia, but to no avail. Honda hornet, dud, Suzuki gsx8s, dud, street triple - triumph freaking giving cruise control only as an option on the rs driving the price to $15k! I have been on this endless merry go round mindfuck on what to replace my bike with since I ride close to 100 miles a week commuting, and the only solution I see is keep racking miles on my z400 till it dies, or find a 2015 bmw r1200r with 15k miles on it for $8k. @yammienoob - how can you give the tuono 660 9.2/10 and recommend it to as a good commuter, knowing full well its known reliability issues? Isn’t reliability inherently a function of performance. TL;DR - mid 30s motorcycle commuter butt hurt he can’t get the Tuono 660 as a second bike because of reliability issues 😅
@Zolaire.
@Zolaire. Год назад
The solution to your problem; get a MT09-SP. All the same bells and whistles as the tuono 660 for just a bit more money. As an added bonus you get a little more power too + Yamaha reliability which is heaps above Aprilia. Unless ofcourse you can't stand the look of it which I can understand. Aprilia are in a league of their own when it comes to styling imo.

and i will say, at 5'11", 32" inseam, 155lbs, I find flat footing it a touch tricky, maybe not on my toes but def on the balls of my feet. It feels wide at the seat to me, wayyy diff than my CB500F for example. Maybe Im just not used to tiptoeing on sportbikes.

Mine howled like crazy. I was embarrassed to use the rear brake. The dealer fixed it at the break in oil change. Started howling again 200 miles later but not as bad. They said it had something to do with shimming the pads. I guess they don’t strike evenly.
