Nice review. My 330e battery range around town is typically 40 - 45 km. Three months and nearly 4000 kilometres from new, I’ve averaged 3.3 litres / 100 km, or 85.6 mpg in the old money. Power split has been roughly 55% e-drive, 45% petrol. Love it.

Great to hear that you're having a good experience with your 330e. Those figures look pretty solid.

I have had a 330e Touring xDrive (G21) for more than one year now. A pre facelift version, which is fine as I prefer the previous dashboard. I can recharge at home and not burn gas at all on my daily commute (twice 10 miles). And I travel from the Paris region to the south of France (800 km/500 miles) once every two months or so. The longer distance I've achieved in full electric mode has been 54km. Sure, a C300e could reach much more, but it would not bring any benefit to my daily commute, and it costs the Mercedes 150kg additional weight and no 4WD. My average consumption over 1.5 year/30000km is 5.2l/100km, plus 8.9kWh/100km which is much better than my previous petrol car (Skoda Octavia) with which I was over 8.3l/100km (34 mpg) in the same conditions. Worst consumption achieved in winter, on highway with winter tires, no initial battery charge, and with a roof case: 8.5l/100km Usually, I'm around 7 to 7.5l/100km on long distances. I find the regeneration working particularly well on the BMW, and you never lack the support of the electric engine. What may be different from other PHEVs is the fact that the focus here is on making the car dynamic and responsive rather than focusing entirely on cutting fuel consumption. Still, by my calculations, with petrol and electric prices here in France, I will start saving money over a 330i after 35,000 km (21,750 miles). That's the most fun car I have had since I started driving in 1985. The ride is excellent. I'm driving quite often in small roads in the Pyrénées mountains. About the additional weight, I'd say this is felt only in very particular conditions, such has braking hard or curves taken at (too) high a speed. And as a fact, it's not that much heavier compared to a 330d. Overall, so far, I'm fully satisfied with the car

I have a 2021 330e, and, honestly, I like my dash/controls better. I don't want a touch the screen, because then it will have fingerprints all over it all of the time. And having to tap through multiple screens to get to basic things like climate control is a big no thank you. I can regularly get 24-26 miles all electric, and that covers me for pretty much all local driving situations. After a year and half of ownership, I am at around 80% electric and 20% ICE miles.

Nice review. Excellent presentation. The small trunk (boot) would be my biggest concern. Wish you had done a suitcase test to see if it would fit, for example, a full-sized luggage + a carryon-sized one.

Why are info screens always quoted in inches? Australia is metric and so is Germany!
@Drivecomau
@Drivecomau Год назад
A bit of an oddity, for sure, but screens and wheel diameters continue to be expressed in imperial in Australia, despite the widespread use of the metric system in almost every other situation.

You got an automatic setting for the temperature anyway?? Do you really need to fiddle with the settings at all? Move the Sydney where the temp is a bit more stable over the day otherwise 🙂

Nice review & yep I like the Melbourne red one too! Isn’t there a max cool button under the vents? Or is it only max dimist?
@Drivecomau
@Drivecomau Год назад
The panel beneath the air vents contains (from L to R) volume, previous track, next track, hazard lights, max demist, and rear demist. There's no max cool or other temp of fan controls without turning to the infotainment display or voice commands.

Why BMW and VW has eliminated the physical climate controls for the sake of technology is beyond me. Nothing compares to the tactile feel of knobs/dials when on the move and safer.

Lol… it’s for fuel economy! Different vehicle different needs! With this you can drive mostly electric as wanted
@KungPowEnterFist
@KungPowEnterFist Год назад
I have had my 330e for over a year and half now. The "slow" charge rate is problem how exactly? Umm, you do know it has an ICE right? Its not like you have to wait before you can drive it again. As for the smaller fuel tank, I have gone months without using a single drop of fuel.
@cpl8168
@cpl8168 5 месяцев назад
@@KungPowEnterFist Basically great for puttering around town. Not so much for long road trips, when you would be on ICE most of the time, due to the long charge time, and short electric range.
@KungPowEnterFist
@KungPowEnterFist 5 месяцев назад
@@cpl8168 I recently did a 968 mile round trip. I got 42MPG for the entire trip. Started with a full charge (paid, at my house), used another full charge at the designation (free, public garage), and a full charge (free, public garage) to start the leg back. On the highway, we were going 80-85MPH almost the entire time. The hotel did not have a garage, so we had to use a public garage. The public garage had slow (7.2kW) chargers for free with a 3 hour limit per day. That was exactly enough to get a full charge. If I had not gotten those two free charges, I probably would still have gotten 40-41MPG. How is that "not so much" for long trips? I have taken a Prius and a Sonata Hybrid on a long trip, and I can tell you that once you get above 65MPH their MPG's drop pretty hard. They end up being about on par with the 330e on the highway at 80MPH+, and those are among the highest rated highway MPG vehicles made. Its not just distance and energy cost. Time is part of the equation. This is where EV's are a miserable failure on the highway. Also, you may not understand how this car works on a highway trip when in hybrid mode and navigation on. It does not expend the electric miles first followed by gas miles. It uses the battery to power the systems and the ICE to power the drivetrain for the majority of the trip. This allows the ICE to operate more efficiently, because the alternator is off much of the time. So, its not about getting the maximum number of electric miles out of a trip. Its about getting the most efficiency out of the trip, regardless of electric vs gas miles.
