Finally a journalist who’s not lazy to go through the infotainment. If you own the car, you’d do what he does, set the car to your liking and forget it.
After having watched many videos about the iX I started really liking the design, outside and inside!! Black Sapphire Metallic + the beige leather looks great!!
unfortunately only 3 colour choices for Australia. Black or read leather or something that looks like recycled Levis with part of your Nan's lounge suite thrown in for good measure,
@@aono335 Had Tesla M3P for nearly 3y and ordered the Ix40M after a test drive. Clearly Tesla is way ahead in terms of software, but that’s all. Everything else is just amazing on the IX I really think it’s a matter of taste, when it comes to design
I love the steering wheel. I think they did a great job, look at that geometry. The car is amazing, not for everyone. As an enthusiast, I love cars in the whole spectrum, and I think this is a great "specimen".
Well I've ordered the iX40 sport here in Brisbane. I had the demo car for a weekend and loved it. I'm personally a big fan of the minimalist dash and the lack of knobs / dials / buttons is a big plus for me. The infotainment system is actually superb, but it does take some time to get it tweaked and setup for your own personal use but once you've done that, the lack of buttons etc. isn't an issue. Do I love the front 'grill' ? ... probably not, but the rest of the cars looks and features easily outweigh any minor design issues.
BMW is so under rated in terms of reliability they have come a long way..they are the Honda of German cars ..more reliable and easy to work on than their competition
Hey mate love the vids! Easily the best Australian car reviews. Any plans on doing some ram reviews, ram 1500, 2500/3500? Also i saw a comment on a carwow video that is a great idea and i'd love to see if you could do it. Basically it's a "living with an American truck" video where you spend a day in a full size pickup and see how practical it is in Australia, like city driving and finding parks for it etc.
That open space between the center console and the dash is a missed opportunity for some practical storage. What a dumb idea. Someone should 3d print a solution.
Honestly, this is an incredible vehicle. So much luxury, zero emissions driving, and it actually looks futuristic - if you want something from the 1990s there are other cars you can buy.
"zero emissions driving" not totally true. All depends on the source of how the electricity is obtained in the first place - fossil or renewable, something I think people forget.
Haha, yes, the LX is certainly distinctive. 😉 But... can't say I like the iX grill either. Maybe hide some of it with a large number plate? 😄 Of course it won't effect my buying decisions; my price range is a little more modest. On the other hand, if someone gifted me an iX tomorrow I would love the grill.
Small SUV? It's the size of an X5 with actually a bit more room inside. It's also only very marginally more expensive than an X5. So yes - plenty of people have the money for it.
BMW should’ve researched the Austin Allegro square steering wheel experience 🤣 not sure about the front but the rest looks good. 22 inch wheels a bit much, at some point bigger wheels must = less space inside
My highlight was your “munchkin” impersonation Paul!🤣 Yeah those huntsman spiders certainly get the heart racing. You mentioned you use Bushman’s insect repellent? Um I reckon it’s insect ATTRACTOR! The spiders have followed you home. 😈😱
Love the rear and I agree, the interior is one of the best so far in an EV. Also love the technology, the fast processor in the infotainment and sharp cameras. I do not like the front at all. The front overhang seems too big and considering this is a ground-up EV platform, and the front end displaces such a large amount of space, why no front trunk?
Incredible design hands down!..Except, those spider alcoves in the door handles and the ugly water streak that will be left behind once you've washed the rear camera. Great review as always.
Yea not a fan of the 90s style door handles they’re doing with EVs these days for aerodynamics. At the every least I’d like a recessed pull handle like on a early-2010s Porsche. No spider can sit in that :) but still aerodynamic
Hi Paul. Surprising Scott or Mike haven’t jumped into the comments section to say they wish they knew where that ‘Paul sped up’ setting was during some of your CE meetings/discussions 😁
This was a great review as always Paul. The interior of this car is next level beautiful. That massive, curved screen is gorgeous. That futuristic centre console is so cool, especially with the optional wood effect and crystal controls. I know you are not really into the crystal effect, but I love them. They are very cool. Those big, fat, curvy seats look so comfortable before you even seat in them. However, the exterior of the iX is, erm....let's just put it this way....challenging. Some people like it. Some people don't. I strongly belong in the later group. As a current X5 xDrive45e driver, I find this car hideous. And that's me being nice. The interior alone will not be enticing me to fork out for this car. I'm afraid it's gonna be a hard pass for me. But lawd, I love that interior. I wish BMW would electrify the X5 and sell it as the iX5 just as they did with the X3. Rumours say there are such plans in the pipeline🤞I would definitely own an iX5 regardless of the performance compromises that come with electrifying an ICE platform that way. In my opinion, the X5 is the best looking SUV that BMW currently produces. I love visually attractive and beautiful stuff. I'm shallow that way.
@@kkgolf5371 I've test driven the iX - twice. Once when BMW invited me for a test drive as a current BMW customer, and once when I applied for a test drive with another BMW dealer nearby. Both test drives were just for fun of course. I had already made up my mind before the test drives that I wasn't gonna buy the iX. As you rightly put it, the iX is different. And that is precisely why I don't like it. It is too different to the point of shocking. If I'm going to shell out over £100k for a car, it better be a car that I really like. £100k is a lot of money to drop on a car simply because of its interior. I don't just buy a car because it's luxurious. Looks are very important to me. If a car doesn't tick both boxes - looks and luxury - it's off my list. I'd rather wait for the EQS SUV if I'm going to be buying a luxury electric SUV. The EQS SUV is a more compelling proposition. It's both great looking and luxurious. In my book, that's a winner. In the meantime, I'll be keeping my G05 for a bit longer. BMW has been bugging me to consider the X5M Comp for a couple of months now. I'd rather have that than the iX. This is how strongly I feel against the iX.
@@chillout1109 I would wait for EQS SUV too but the price is up there and not something I'm willing to buy. 140-150k with options. Simply not worth 50-60k more than the iX.
Nice one. If this is the future, I'm all in! That interior looks awesome. Now just need all that tech and interior goodness to filter down to a car I convince the minister for finance to open the wallet for!
So for you personally this version of idrive is better than the old one? Easier to use? Also above the mbux? Just asking because like 80% of car journalists say that is harder tu use than mbux or idrive 7, cheers and to many reviews to come!
Thanks for the excellent review. Thinking seriously of ordering an iX, but still considering the IPace. It’s less $ with better warranty, but smaller second row.
Comes complete with a Hidey for a Spidey, what a neat vehicle... Not sure it's worth the cost of two or more model 3 Tesla's, it's nice but not that nice.
Do I miss something or Paul didn't mentioned it... Ground Clearance and Height of the car... Loved the entire car but BMW SUVs are known for height feature too... May be EVs are not meant for it... Anyhow, Just a request if you can consider... especially when you are reviewing SUVs, Could you please stand by side and give us the height reference... I know in many reviews you do mention the height but it will be more good to see practically where car's height stand against you... and last if you can show us the front side while parking the car where there is high gutter/kerbside to check the real world ground clearance... And lastly.... thats totally upto you but if you can push the driver seat all the way back before getting into second row this will give us complete idea how much room is really there... Once Again Great Review...
If you look carefully, CarPlay is full screen but Android Auto isn’t. It’s the usual size with a black space either side and a map further to the left. It’s a limitation of android. They don’t support fitting to the available resolution as Apple does. I wonder why only electric vehicles seem to have these camera systems and “sentry” stuff like Tesla?? All modern higher spec vehicles should now include this - obviously above a certain price point I’d expect. You have to understand that lane keeping/centring systems need clear lines on both sides to work properly unless they are using some other sort of fancy AI or machine learning to keep in a lane when in fact there is no lane such as at some roadworks. So of course the system will fail there. The seats look like Tesla seats. Rear air vents appear to be in the B pillar rather than in the doors. And I think opaque is the word you are looking for in regard to the sunroof - it goes opaque at the push of a button, although if it still lets light through, translucent is a better word. Is there no Frunk/Froot? I’m sure it wouldn’t have hit the car in front as surely the AEB would activate. Possibly if you were using the adaptive cruise control it would come to a complete stop. “Ultimate Driving Machine” Really there should just be one spec - everything. With a few options.
To me, the exterior looks quite nice except for the ridiculous grille... the interior is lovely too except for those obnoxiously cheesy bejeweled seat controls. I also really dig the ability to monitor the car's cameras through your phone.
Pretty sure I saw this exact car being followed by a Jaguar on the corner of city rd and power st in Southbank the other morning! I remember thinking those were some weird looking doorhandles, was that you Paul!
Who can afford this or better yet, who would be willing to pay 170K for a vehicle whos purpose is suburban get around. Not a show car, not an offraoder, not a drag racer. However, the reviews are awesome and entertaining ! So hey ! Thanks Paul
Haters that say they don’t like the front .....they will soon be copying it. Remember the boot of the 2007 7 class bmw? Everyone said the same thing till they copied it
The iX is NOT a competitor to the likes of the Mercedes EQC or Audi eTRON. The iX3 is more in the league of those cars. The iX is much bigger, and a different specification and price category (equivalent of an electric X5). The EQC and eTRON are smaller electric SUVs in the category below the iX.
Is there a chance you could please do a video or an explanation of how the durometer works and what it is actually reading and what data it is showing Just a little confused every time it comes up on what the results actually correlate to...
Thanks for a detailed review. This BMW is absolutely beautiful But Mercedes EQS is far superior in terms of luxury and tech. I m really keen to see you reviewing an EQS
I guess car companies stop the window glass going all the way is because of safety. Most of road safety rules and its sometimes illegal as well to have your arm out of a moving vehicle
Max charge rate doesn't tell the full story. As is evident in Teslabjorns charge test the iX has a flatter charging curve than sth like the Tesla Model 3 and will as a result charge faster.
Haha, at exactly 30:00 we see the drive modes: personal, sport and EFFICIENT. Lesser cars have economy mode, but that would seem incongruous or perhaps downright laughable in a $180K car.
You really did not seem up to date on this car. I am pretty sure the fast charging is much better than you state. Also not all options i.e. seat fabric choice is a choice available in Australia. Definitely a gorgeous vehicle. Love touch climate control. Enjoyed and learnt a lot more from european/british reviews. They loved it on corners and had a lot of driving in tight country lanes. Really found your review disappointing.
