Excellent summary. And nice rider profile of a similarly shaped reviewer to myself. My 2019 K1600GT has been rock solid. Love it. Fast not just in a straight line, but sneaky fast in the twisties.
Good review. I now own a '23 K1600GT. Previously I owned '12 K1600GT for 11 years/108,000 miles. The '23 suspension is MUCH better than the '12 and the Shift Assist Pro (Quick shifter) is awesome. As noted Nav system is terrible; e.g. to me, useless. I've mounted a Zumo XT above the phone cubby hole; nav issue solved. The '23 throttle response is greatly neutered below 4500 rpm when compared to the olde '12-'16 K600. I've installed a custom "map" from Bren Tune that is a huge improvement.
Good review! I have a 2023 GT and would add that low speed stability is surprisingly good for such a heavy bike, that low rev torque is not that impressive - you need to be in the 4k area to feel the pull, doesn't have the latest BMW technology like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring. Other than that, it is a really excellent top of the food chain bike.
Great review! Big thanks to the whole crew who made it possible. Question: does the lean angle on the bagger stink? The GT speaks to me and I will get one probably in the next few years. I weirdly find my self attracted to the bagger and I am hoping the lean angle isn’t great so I can get it out of my mind.
Get the bagger out of your mind. It does look good but there are stability issues with the bagger and even more so the grand America. BMW tried to alter the shape of the bike from the base GT and GTL but the aerodynamics don’t work. That makes those bikes weave at highway speeds. Stick with GT or GTL.
Great review! Always enjoy watching all of CW videos. Have a question, I have a 2022 K1600B and have been been told that the engine knocking/marbles in the engine noise below 3000 RPM is a normal characteristic of the engine. I was wondering if you happen to notice this on any of the bikes in this review? I love my bike but this noise has me contemplating selling it. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Why would you sell it? I own one. It’s normal. Ever had a car with a dual mass flywheel? It sounds just like that. Put it in neutral and listen the the transmission and then pull in the clutch and it should quiet down. That is normal. If you are in the years of the recall you could always take it in and have it replaced under warranty.
love everything about it but the GPS system. Seems like a ton of work and always needing your phone is a big turn off. I like keeping my phone OFF and in my bag fully charged. Is that really the only GPS system they offer? disappointing for sure.......... Great bike otherwise. How big are side bags of GT?
Side bags are large enough to fit a large full face helmet. They fit my Arai Corsair X with no issues. The Nav app isn’t that bad, and once you learn how to use it, it’s great. One of the best map apps I’ve ever used and I’ve used more than a few. You just have to spend some time to learn all of the features. If you don’t have a super huge phone you can plug it in while it’s in the compartment so it stays charged.
I have used the BMW connected app for all of my navigation. It has worked flawlessly every time on my 2021 RT, and now on my 2023 K16GT. Much better than the Zumo Nav 5 & 6.
I would love to see one you perform a u turn on one of the machines?? They are heavy in the front and the grip/shoulder position is awkward. It feels like your going to fall over in a slow or low speed turn and maneuver on the GT AND GTL...am I wrong??
Bosch created that cumbersome display setup for BMW and others, the Bosch name is MySpin. The ridiculousness of being forced to be the top app and use wifi should have had BMW realize how bad of a solution it is. Worse is this setup completely rules out Apple Carplay and Android Auto meaning BMW motorcycles is the only large tour brand to support neither. I actually passed over buying a new RT because of this app/display mess.
Yes, the Grand America is limited to 103 mph due to aerodynamic instability at speed. I guess BMW was too lazy to test it on the autobahn. @@morgan98801
Find one used... There's an old rich guy somewhere with one in beautiful condition he can no longer enjoy and wants to sell... It took some time, but that's exactly what I did.
We never get to see inside the engine and its mechanical technology. Never a break down of the components on how they are engineered for performance and reliability. For many motor heads this is what we want to see first. Most don't care about the "apps" or "apple auto or "android carplay".................
Only on neglected examples -its an expensive bike to buy and maintain but its up there for reliability. If you want cheap buy cheap but this is a LUXURY motorcycle….
Probably BMW should have thought of it but the phone issue is surmountable by adding a cheap handlebar bag and run a charge lead from the Aux outlet -simples
@@22Royston Not really, it's just a labor intensive headache to get off all the body work, get to areas that takes hours to do simple maintenance. And all that labor cost money if you don't do the work yourself. And most people would rather be riding, than fixing a Money pit whale like this Bike is.
