@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm 11 месяцев назад
Thanks very much! I'm a big fan of Tour Saint Christophe generally. They do an excellent job and the wine has been consistently excellent lately. I've definitely recommended 18-20. 21 was a bit down, but still excellent for that more difficult vintage. 2022 is definitely a return to the 18-20 quality level. Cheers!

Great video, I was hoping you'd talk about 2022 Bordeaux. I had Laroque and Grand-Puy-Lacoste in my cart and then decided on others, shoot!! Haha. Very nice video! I bought into the Laroque hype and picked up some 2018. To me it was very simple. Do you think these 95+ point ratings are really justified?
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
Thank you! Laroque is elegant and can be a bit subtle, but is definitely a quality wine and tremendous QPR. Complexity should come with more bottle age. It absolutely blows away anything you can get from Napa for $30.
@Smiding

I hope I can get my hands on some lafite, margaux, gruaud, poyferre and cheval blanc this year. Seems like the prices are up 15-30% from last year.
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
A nice list! Yes but it is important to keep in mind that 2021 prices were lowered because it was a sub-par vintage. Also, 2022 is potentially better than even 1982 so there is still appreciation potential, especially for the wines that end up with perfect scores. With 2-3 exceptions, I would pass in 2021 entirely.

@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
Well done! Yes, especially if you can get it below $200, that is a good idea! If this wine receives one or more 100-point scores, it will release at a substantially higher price in a couple years.

Awesome video! I’m debating 2 out of the 3 between carmes haut Brion, smith haut Lafitte and haut bailly. What do you recommend is the better buy? Leaning toward CHB and haut bailly 🤔
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
Thanks! That is a difficult decision. All three appear to be tremendous wines, so I would probably take price into account as well. I definitely would include CHB and then whichever wine had the best pricing for the SHL and the HB. But you really can't go wrong as all 3 should be amazing. Cheers!
@justinlow1990
@justinlow1990 Год назад
@@AttorneySomm cost is probably what will swing my decision on most of my buys as I’ve heard most will up their prices on average 15-20% from 20😭 I’ve already got Leoville Barton and GPL as those are great value. Looking forward to Rauzan Segla and Clinet 🙏🏼
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
@@justinlow1990 Sounds like a nice haul! I almost included Rauzan Segla in this video. That one is excellent too. With respect to pricing, unlike other regions, Bordeaux lowers prices in bad vintages. So while it is true prices are meaningfully higher than 2021, a better comparison would probably be the 2020 prices. With 2-3 exceptions, I'm going to skip 2021 altogether.
@justinlow1990
@justinlow1990 Год назад
@@AttorneySomm I agree! I’ve completely skipped 2021 en primeur and might wait till the wines hit the stores before purchasing. It doesn’t make sense to buy 2021 when there is still a ton of 2020 left in the market

I remember back in the 1980s when Clos Fourtet had bottomed out in reputation and you could get it really cheap. At the time, I lived in Dallas, where in summer the liquor stores were usually 80 degrees inside. Worse were the ones whose frontage faced the afternoon sun. And it was before bar codes and many of the foreign wines were priced wrong because the staff couldnt figure out the label! That was my introduction to Bordeaux.

Latour doesn't sell futures, so that one is out for about a decade. They are all tremendous and have multiple potential 100-point scores. If price were no issue, I would probably get Lafite. HB tends to be the one I personally enjoy the most and will cost materially less than Lafite. And you certainly could not go wrong with Margaux either, although the profile is a bit different for this vintage. Mouton would be 4th. You really can't go wrong though.

@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm Год назад
It depends on the vintage. I'm still waiting on 2000, but 2003 has been enjoyable since a few years after release. Generally 15-20 is a pretty good estimate, except in very structured vintages like 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010. Cheers! 2022 should be a bit more generous like 2009.

its not about hotness the 2022, its about drought and dryness, which means grapes have had really hard time ripening in extreme droughts. therefor 2022 was never going to be the “warm” year, not in Bordeaux, not in France and not anywhere else in Europe… even if Bordeaux guys are claiming they did some magic to keep wines “fresh”. all of this does not apply to regions where irrigation is allowed of course.
