I bought the Can Am pre maintenance plan for $2800...48 months of all recommended service because of this video!

Wow! I hope you get your money out of that investment. I'm glad you found it helpful.

I can't thank you enough for this video. I searched for that oil filter for an hour. I did find it within 10 minutes but wasn't willing to believe this location. It was your video that confirmed this wonderful location. However, I would have never known to get to it the way you've shown. Thanks a million! Great video, thanks again!

It's a long video but I hoped someone might find it useful. I spoke with a dealer and they told me their mechanics don't remove the cab panel, they reach in from the side. I would change the oil and leave the filter if that were my only option. I honestly think the new filter would be more contaminated than the one you removed.

What a gong show. You have tremendous patience. I'm ordering a 2024 next month. I guess I'll just wash the heck out of it so I don't have to take the cab apart. Great and very informative video.

Hopefully you didn't bang the gong. It's a total pain trying to video some of the things I do, but I'm always hopeful it will help someone. Thanks for watching.

2 more ramps for front tires and you're level throughout the whole change, with good clearance. I'd spend the few extra minutes to unbutton the screws holding the skid plate and drop that. Opportunity to clear any unwanted debris in there and not worry about oil getting on top and eventually finding its way to those holes for unwanted drips after the change. Good video!
@theMTNman
@theMTNman 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and good point on ramps but that means I have to buy another set. Dropping the skid plate on a Can-am is not an option the last I checked. My previous Can-ams the plates were riveted on and It wasn't worth the time to drop it unless I was replacing it. I honestly didn't look at the Defender because I assumed it was put on with rivets too. I guess I need to check to see if it's designed differently due to not being a sport model.

I like my defender but I believe maintenance was an afterthought when the engineers deigned it . I remove the tilt bed shock to get more clearance . Mine doesn’t have ac so I have more room to access the filter . I use to have a can am commander and had to remove the seats and most of the interior plastics to service the machine. An oil change should be a simple task on these machines.
@theMTNman
@theMTNman 9 месяцев назад
I agree, great machines but there is no excuse for making it so difficult to access the oil filter.

We go to Arizona with our side by side every year, would like a video of your toy hauler and set up!!!! thanks

We have a video of the toy hauler on the channel. Were you looking for something in particular? We've been to AZ but I'm not familiar with the trails there. We primarily ride in UT, CO, and ID. What part of AZ has the best trails?

I am looking at a Defender but this almost makes me more serious about Polaris which is far easier to change the filter
@theMTNman
@theMTNman 6 месяцев назад
It's a lot easier to break the Polaris too. All kidding aside, Polaris might have improved their quality in the last few years. It is a process to change the oil in this thing but I wouldn't let that make my decision. It is a great machine for the farm, mild trails, and back roads.

Do you reset the maintenance reminder and if so do you have a video on how to do that
@theMTNman

I haven't have the maintenance reminder activate yet. I serviced it early, but I will look into it and see if I can make a video.

Great Video, next time use bungee cord to hold hose's back then you can have her film it all. Just saying....love the machine

BRP was definitely not thinking about the customer on this. Oil change one thing, removing the panels behind the seat completely stupid. I just did mine, not knocking your video. Any advice on how to keep dust from coming in the back doors? I know it's not a Ford pickup but there are gaskets around the doors, they just don't do much.
@theMTNman
@theMTNman 15 дней назад
I have had to adjust my doors several times to get them to seal sufficiently. They are pretty tight now and I don't notice a lot of dust entering the cab.

Only can am would make it this difficult to do a basic oil change. I’ve had several Polaris and can am machines and Polaris is by far superior for DIY maintenance.

In your experience which brand is more reliable? It is most definitely a thoughtless design feature, and I feel confident that most dealerships don't remove the panels. Because the dealerships I asked said some mechanics remove them and some don't.

Change all to Amsoil...Thank me later. Defenders are very short lived here in New Zealand. We claim around 67% of all world warrantys but sell less than 1% of B.R.P's world production. Gearboxes self destruct, gear shift cable breaks, gear shift lever gating weld failure (just weld or replace), Engine very prone to dusting, steering racks failure, front diffs blowing, Timing chain tensioner failure leading to oil leak (around 300 hrs) All this and more within 2 years. Beyond that chassis crack, Engine dusting. The speedo cluster dies after hrs exceeded. Get rid of that filter and plumb in a Racor Snapp water trap sediment filter... thank me later.

What brand do you guys have the best luck with there? I'm a huge Kawasaki fan, but at the time they didn't make anything with the features of the defender.

Wheel chock your tires. That oil filter isn't in a good place....think I'd install a remote oil filter to a better place. They definitely didn't make that thing to work on.

Multiple washes to get it to the point I felt like it was clean enough to change the oil, and we wanted it clean before we pulled it in our toy hauler for vacation. We use it as our car when we travel. Thanks for watching.
