The 2022 Chevy Blazer RS with it's dual clutch rear differential is a fun vehicle on pavement and surprisingly capable off pavement.
Engine Adventures strives to explore and test the AWD and 4WD systems of all crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. To do this we test vehicles in real world environments in a way that allows viewers to cross shop and explore any vehicle they may be interested in learning about.
New videos every Friday at 6:30 A.M. MST and occasionally on Wednesdays.

You can change the zoom of the rear view mirror to match your back up cam or just be more accurate with the buttons on the bottom.

Another great review. Congrats 👏. I love this format. Especially showing gauges and switches in real time during testing is very informative. Many other reviewers show only their faces during testing. It is not bad for the reviewer to show their face, but showing only their face is not very informative about the car they review. Moreover, Chevy Blazer was surprisingly good off-road, transferring torque side2side without cutting power. I wonder if the Traverse, which has no twin clutch awd, performed this well. Also could you reveal what is the truck you plan to review?

Thanks for the support! I was hoping to have all the truck videos ready for next week, but I'm probably going to have to stick to one video a week. Anyway it's a 2022 Tundra Limited with the TRD off-road package. I'm working on the videos for it now, but the review is still over 30 minutes long and I want it to be closer to 20. Then there will be a towing video, and finally an off-pavement video of it.

compared to many vehicles in this size, this awd is on top in my opinion, esp considering kia-hyundai's rubbish-well heated !!! systems...brilliant video btw...

Thanks for watching and for the support! The Blazer RS is certainly one of the top performers in this class, however starting in 2021 only the RS trim has the dual clutch, and the other trim levels are not as capable

Great video, I love that color. I hope that my dealership has it in New Jersey.. Can’t wait to see the 2023 EV Blazer video.. Thanks

Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't get many electric vehicles to test here in Utah, hopefully that changes soon!

Great review. I agree with Harold’s comment 100%. I’ve been a Chevy man since my first car in 1986 and wanted something similar to the Blazer but with good awd so I was thinking Subaru (due to marketing & word of mouth) but now thanks to this review I will be test driving a Blazer. Thank you !!

Be sure to get the RS if you're going off-road, it's the only one with a dual clutch rear differential.

I've been driving the 2022 RS for week and a half, if you don't floor it, and you slowly increase the pedal, you will get 0-60 in 6- 6.1 seconds... There is also a timer on your bottom dash setting... Sport mode adjusts suspension and steering assist as well... I feel I'm much more impressed w/ my late model 2022 RS, but to each their own.. the Stadium seating is nice for rear passengers. As well as Steering column and seat/ setting profiles per user/ Key fob... So the seat and wheel will move automatically lol... pretty cool.

There are a lot of variables in the 0-60 with elevation being a huge one. The RS does has some really good mechanical tricks and is a great driving vehicle!

Big fan of your off road reviews. I wanted to ask though, what app do you use to do your 0-60 runs? Is it something on the app store that anybody can download?

Thanks for watching! I plug an OBDii reader into the vehicle and use the OBD Link app. I figured running it through the OBDii would be a little more accurate than just the phone GPS.

GM might overcharge a little for the Blazer but other than that it's an amazing vehicle. As always, thanks for watching and commenting!

The new Blazer is perhaps the best on-road CUV, the V6 3.6 is a great street motor. It has an off-road mode so it must be able to do some, it is not an old Blazer K5 or S10, Chevy needs an off-road package for this vehicle.

Check out the Brazilian Blazer, something like that should be available in the US. It's based off the Colorado.

@@EngineAdventures Agree they need a ZR2 Colorado Blazer 2 door.

Are you sure it's a dual clutch? It has what GM doesn't want to call Torque vectoring... similar to the Acura but actually no delay to the rear axel... So 50% of your power goes to each axel, and that will be distributed up to 100% for an individual wheel... The Cylinder disengagement system has been modified as well to every 3-4 cycles to increase MPG, but I as well do not like the Auto stop... The car is *amazing... the Naturally aspirated V6 3.6 w/ the 9 sp is perfect imo... (there is some evidence this power train is one of the best in class, but don't listen to the oil maintenance recommendations. This vehicle is actually very advanced mechanically, and it measures based off temperature, not miles, which can be misread to tell you 7k miles... Change every 3... I've done the research... I also think FWD mode might wasting what you buy w/ one of these, mines a week old (2022 RS loaded) and I'm experimenting, but sport mode actually changes QUITE a lot... Doesn't search for gears, I'm actually considering keeping it in Sport or AWD (this is actually a true AWD rather than 4x4 funny enough) The Auto Stop has some pre-emptive guessing. The calibration is pretty nice, but when slowing down, you can tell it preps for a potential auto stop, and then if you don't come to a complete stop and gas up, you *might feel small jolt... You can permanently disengage this. (I Think the evidence of ware and tare is evident, it saves on *Emissions, not MPG as it goes off, and not idle so every time it restarts that burns more gas... It's only there to meet emission standards... The Cylinder Deactivation however is great and calibrated correctly vs past Pick-ups where there were too many cylinders cycling off too often causing gasket, valve & spark plug issues)

Thanks for watching and commenting! The rear differential (not really a differential) has a one clutch for each axle shaft, thus a dual clutch. This allows the vehicle to send more power to one wheel on the rear axle than the other. I believe the rear is 1%-3% overdriven (moves faster than the front) to give it better torque vectoring and more of a RWD feel. Sport mode does allow it to send more torque to the rear wheels than AWD mode, along with many other things. Check out my video on the 2020 Blazer Premiere for more information on how the system works. The Premiere and RS trims both had the dual clutch rear until 2021, when the system was dropped on the Premiere and only available on the RS.

I just don’t get GM. It has an excellent awd system yet it’s completely ignored by GM marketing. They should be shouting it from every rooftop how capable their system is. Make a raised version and follow suit with trail/wilderness/timberline-style version. Ditch the corny Camaro influences as I would wager there is less than 1% of people who are interested in a Blazer due to its Camaro styling cues. Make it it’s own thing to compete with Subaru, Ford, Jeep’s off road packages.

I actually talked to an engineer at GM about it, he was very proud of his work (as he should be). I was quite surprised at how much detail he gave me while the rest of the GM marketing team just kind of ignored the dual clutch system.

Maybe, but on the other hand it's probably brought tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars to less fortunate people. I'm a big fan of made in the USA, but I also understand we are in a global economy.
