This is a tough one.. Because on one hand, we ALL knew the rain was coming. But on the other hand they had been racing most of the day surrounded by rain that never made it to the track. I went back and watched the broadcast, they were showing gnarly clouds right next to the track for at least 45 minutes before the wreck. If they would have thrown the yellow early people would say they were being overly cautious.
I wish they would place a rain detector high above the MRN turn announcer stand/NASCAR spotter stand. If any rain drops start falling into that detector, sound an alarm in the NASCAR tower. It is 2023 so you'd think that type of technology wouldn't be hard to find. I mean we have Lightning Detectors that can precisely detect a strike within 8 miles, so...
@@Lycan_Jedi It's funny because it's almost like Daytona is a massive facility and it's entirely possible for it to rain in one part of the stands and track and not another, which is what happened. It's exactly like the crash during Xfinity Practice in 2014, where a cell suddenly popped up right atop the middle of the back stretch, and it was raining no where else.
man, just watched three different videos from fans in the stands showing it was raining hard as they crossed the start/finish line. People were putting on panchos and rain gear. Others screaming it's raining. If it's raining that hard in the grandstands, chances are good it's going to find the track in a quick amount of time. But that's just common sense Scott Miller.
@@southeastcupseries I was on the opposite side of the flag stand and it was raining on me before they got to the flag stand, probably raining in certain places
Even if it was raining by the start finish line that is not enough time to call the caution, get the info to the spotters, and to the drivers and slow down in time without crashing
I remember that day, felt it raining almost a full lap before the crash and well, my twitter video unexpectedly went viral during the red flag which added to the mayhem 1:45
Shame on nascar for not throwing caution with known rain on turn one!! Field should have been locked with caution thrown at start finish line. The cost of all of those crashed cars should be on nascar shoulders. Luckily no drivers injured
