We got our long-term 2022 Ford Maverick pickup on our highway fuel-economy test, and we were really impressed by the results! There's not much reason to get the hybrid over this if you do a lot of highway driving.

This was very informative. I have a Lariat Ecoboost on the way so it's great to know that it can average 30 mpg in actual regular driving, not fluffed up EPA driving. That's what my Honda Civic 1.5T got a couple of years ago. So the fact that a small pickup truck with AWD can achieve mpgs from what a compact sedan with FWD can is astounding. And the Hybrid just blows all of them out of the water! Good job Ford!

@@CJDiecast On the highway, 1.5T gets over 40. Even the Si gets 40. This YT channel has mpg tests with civic 1.5T that confirms 40+ mpg hwy. 30mpg that's in the city.

@Kalvin Thomas The only thing that makes the ford quicker is its all wheel drive launch. For regular daily driving, the civic is certainly much more punchy. And, it can turn!

I was amused at the comment you made as you were getting onto the highway at the start of your test drive. You said the drive would simulate an actual long journey people would take in their car. Maybe where you live. Where we live in Texas, it's over 100 miles - one way - to Sam's Club.

I like your highway MPG testing method, and that you test many vehicles so there is a good database for comparison. Yesterday's posting of the hybrid Maverick was an eye opener, especially if you do mostly highway driving and live in a colder climate. The extra power and 4x4 in the turbo could be the better option for many folks. A test driving both trucks around the streets of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti would be an interesting comparison for those of us that do more stop and go driving.

That seems really good for a 2.0 eco boost AWD. What many people don't understand about the hybrid power train is that it really shines in city driving vs highway cruising where you don't get all of the benefit of the battery power. That said I think I would go with the 2.0 Eco Boost AWD .
@langhamp8912
@langhamp8912 Год назад
I've got the 2.0 AWD and I do get between 32 (worst) to 38 (best, on highway) mpg, but doing so is quite hard due to the Maverick's tendency to "keep revs" when coasting. For normal non-mindful driving it's more around 28 mpg but you can extend the range to extraordinary distance by rarely using the brakes, going 65 mph on the highway, and not using cruise control. The hybrid does all that for you except the 65 mph.

Hot air is less dense than cold air which means there's a less concentration of oxygen to combine with the fuel hot air means less fuel efficiency. That is mythology that hot air improves power and efficiency it's not true at all. A turbocharger or a supercharger is an air compressor that compresses air which means more oxygen per unit volume of air which means more oxygen to burn the fuel while it's in the combustion chamber. hot intake air works against a turbocharger cold air assist a turbocharger. Airplanes have a method to add heat to the carburetor intake to keep them from icing up whenever you add heat to an airplane carburetor the power and the RPMs of the motor go down you lose power with hot air going in the intake.

Used them for 30 years for hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems and im sure lots of others have as well. Cruising at 55-60 I have gotten as high as 37MPG on my ecoboost. But thats the speed limit in my state, good to know what the MPG is at higher speeds. EDIT: Mine is the FWD only model, which will have an impact too.

I've seen 35.8 MPG on my avg mpg readout. Even accounting for possible error (Avg mpg usually has a 1-2 mpg error), I'm still getting an easy 32-33 mpg hwy in my XLT AWD ecoboost. That is without using cruise control and cruising at 65-70 mph. I have a hard tri-fold bed cover which probably helps fuel efficiency also.

You should have done a mix instead of highway only, would be more realistic. The hybrid while having the EPA rating for highway couldn't take advantage of what the hybrid engine was made for.

Well you earned a new subscriber with me well done! Do you have another video where you’re comparing them directly? I’m really struggling trying to decide which one to get I have two other four-wheel-drive vehicles for my business reason I want this is solely for MPG’s and putting less mileage on my three-quarter ton truck for my small lawn care and window cleaning business.

Who would you recommend this truck for? Does it seem like a reliable vehicle?
@DailyMotor
@DailyMotor 2 года назад
Definitely! It’s pretty simple tech: a 2.0-liter turbo that Ford uses in many products, so it’s a known quantity. 8 speed automatic that is also pretty proven. Even the hybrid is pretty straightforward and proven in other models. I think a lot of people would enjoy the Maverick. It’s affordable, practical, and cool. Can’t ask for much more!

Is this in normal mode? Any idea what the 2.0L ecoboost gets in eco mode vs normal mode? Considering fx4 package but not sure how much MPG id lose not having eco for long trips
@DailyMotor
@DailyMotor 2 года назад
I doubt it affects highway mpg as the truck was in 8th gear the entire time anyway. The 4k tow gearing and/or FX4 tires are more likely to affect highway mpg
@dlloyd6300

Eco mode has little/no effect on highway driving. It basically adjusts shift points and maybe some fuel flow restriction on acceleration, neither of which do anything when you are cruising in OD on the highway.

I checked the mileage on my 2024 Maverick XL Ecoboost for the first 1,000 miles. Checking it manually, it got 28.2 mpg. The computer was saying 30.3 mpg. It seems the computer is a little too optimistic. I don't think your test included enough miles to be accurate. Also, you need to include both highway and city driving. I really like the Maverick. It rides and handles very good.
