Looks like a nice ride. I drove home from work in this storm too. I have a Murano AWD and I will never drive a car without it. I hope Ford comes out with a Maverick Hybrid AWD.
little snow = big trouble, nice to see real world driving situations and on my 17 escape with the 2l awd system, its very good in bad weather I expected the same in the maverick
More than likely next years edition will come with hybrid AWD. They have hybrid AWD on other vehicles so they have the tech. Ford came out and said they just didn’t want to release too many power trains at once. I am in the same boat as you long commute in ND so a hybrid AWD pickup would be amazing. That being said, I have seen the eco boost AWD getting around 29 mpg in other reviews which isn’t too bad.
Now we need a test with a 10" blizzard. And then a test with a 2wd hybrid But, I ordered my XLT in mid October so the snow might be gone by the time it arrives!
This little truck gets more and more interesting with every video that discusses it. I cannot get one right now, but I really want one. A lariat with the FX4 and tow packages, of course.
Winter specific tires have a totally different rubber compound, especially designed to be more flexible in cold conditions.. Don't be fooled by tires which may simply seem to work as well.
It will do fine in snow even with non-3peak winter tires...as your vehicle is AWD .. (even the base front driver will do ok)... but the limiting factors as with many new vehicles are LED headlamps getting snow covered/iced (lack of heat) and tail lamps... same issue if LED. Maverick is a nice value for what you get. Thanks for the video!
I cant believe how incredible those headlights are, wow! Are the wipers always this loud/any solution for that? I live in the midwest too - same weather as you, and none of my past vehicles’ wipers have ever done that. That’d be pretty annoying to live with for 5 years
This is probably a crazy question, and a repeat, but do you think a Maverick with 4k towing could pull off a small driveway snow plow? Probably not structure on unibody to mount to.
Could you possibly do a video in the snow with advancetrac off and slide it around a bit to give us feedback on if traction control keeps you from having fun? My 2019 ranger interferes and doesn’t allow you to slide around even when it’s off. I’d really appreciate it. These look fun
Ice covered roads are not always smooth. Chains from other cars create grooves in the ice which make a rough road. Shocks also are stiffer in cold weather which roughens the ride and transfers road noise to the cabin.
I was thinking about ordering a Ford Bronco 2 or Ford Edge this past March. Local Ford dealer had only 2020 Edge SUVs on the lot in dark ugly colors. Bought a 2021 Chevrolet Blazer instead. Sorry Ford.
Thanks Blake. My Maverick was ordered as of 2 days ago. Great stuff. Do you've the FX4 package and which drive mode did you use? Best vehicle I had for snow was a Wrangler 2dr with Mud Terrains.
@Brandon 392 I just got my maverick a few days ago it’s worth the wait. I got it with the fx4 package. If you live somewhere with snow it’s worth having in my opinion. The slippery mode is very nice to have with snow. Which when you get the fx4 you also get all terrain tires. Even though there not true all train. They still have good grip. The package only cost like 800 dollars. Which you lastly get the huge screen in the instrument panel if you have the base xlt.
I keep hearing a rattling throughout the video. Is this thing put together OK? I'm thinking about getting one, but the truck seems loud. Or is it because your mic is close to the front dash?
That horizontal line across the instrument cluster, showing instant fuel mileage is incredibly distracting. Can that be turned off ? And just why would it show at the same time as average fuel mileage. Just what were you thinking, Ford ?
@@squidinkRC No luck needed. I’ve been engine braking my whole life in the smoky mountains. Breezing right by the individuals being pulled out who braked themselves right into a ditch, etc. It doesn’t seem like you have a lot of experience coming down thousands of feet in elevation in a short amount of time on curvy roads that are not salted and plowed… Stick with what you know and stop acting like your opinion overrides mine and everyone around me’s experience on the matter.
@@nathanialhughes idk it just seems like it’s wrong to think you’ve got more control downshifting an auto trans with FWD than a brake pedal to 4 wheels directly
What package is on this Maverick, FX4, AWD, 4x4, or the cheapest model ? I had a hard time figuring out the engine temp or the fuel tank level gauges. I want one!
No. But from my experience, center diff locks on unibody awd vehicles really help much (especially in snow). Ford’s fx4 pack has a bunch of different off road drive modes which can help. But if you want to do anything besides light off roading then get a more purpose built vehicle.
@@jay.0621 Who knows how long any engine will last? I have a 3.5 Ecoboost F150 that is currently at 88,000 miles and my wife's 2.0 Escape has over 60,000. No issues with either engine. You typically only hear about the bad things about about vehicles on social media, while the fleet vehicles that put thousands of trouble free miles never get mentioned. I think you missed my point anyway. We were talking about a pickup truck and you compared your Corolla which is hardly a comparison at all. That was my point! Your Corolla maybe a fine vehicle, but it's not a pickup.
