2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid REAL TIME GAS USE MONITORING MUST SEE HACK | Dash & Touch screen settings 

Ok so I haven't actually read the manual, but have been driving a 23 hybrid for a few months and the power gage does NOT display your % of battery being used. It is more an indication of % of total power available being output. If you're running on all electric you will see the gage stays quite low, and when you push the petal down far enough the ICE will kick on and that gauge jumps up in a direct correlation to how much gas you're giving it. Also the green area of the gage indicates how much your battery is being charged from regenerative breaking. The harder you hit the breaks the more the gage will go into the green until it goes past and into the white again on the left. If you can keep your breaking in the green for the entire stop you're capturing the maximum energy possible via regenerative breaking to recharge your battery. This is how all hybrid gauges work that I have seen.

With my experience, using the electric setting display on the dash screen, I noticed the power gage when it's closest to zero indicates running on electricity. Increasing the throttle toward 100% displays "Hybrid," which would indicate to me that both gas and electric are being used to power the vehicle. When slowing down or stopping, it displays "charge." Adaptive braking uses the stored energy to also recharge the battery. So when the needle is in the green, it indicates that the system is being charged without using the gas engine to do so. Indicated by the green dial that pops up on the dash with the amont of charged returned to the electrical system in % of charge returned. That's one of the reasons Hybrids get better city fuel economy and worse at highway speeds because it's using the gas engine to keep the system charged constantly. Sort of free energy. This technology has been around for years since the late 30s early 40's When General Motors EMD division equipped the 1st successful F3 Diesel locomotive road engines, which are actually diesel electric, with this same technology for braking as dynamic braking. The same electric traction motors that run the train are simply reversed to become generators to provide breaking. Hence, the cooling fans atop locomotives as it generates a lot of heat. I find myself using the amount of charge as a challenge to get 100% return every time I come to a stop. sort of like a video game. It would be good to know how much energy that was saved in relation to how much is being used to start again.

the green bar means the battery is being charged thru one of the ways possible, I.e. Regen. braking, coasting the 1-100% is how much combined power you can apply coming from both ICE and M/G at 100% you are using both The Gas ICE and The Electric motor. It is only using the electric energy to propel it at the start of acceleration after that first kick the ICE kicks in to add the real power, but the Electric motors are pretty much always being used to at least control the "gears" or rather mode of operation, Underdrive, sailing, overdrive, reverse( uses electric only ), regen braking, coasting, and if I'm right about the rest there is one more I don't remember. maybe maintaining a cruising speed Yeah i think thats it

I wasen't sure about this new hybrid truck but after seeing your video it sounds like something I may look into. The one thing I don't like is ford isn't offering the four wheel drive with hybrid model, to get it you have to buy a all gas engine, not electric. Good video !

I've owned mine for a month now. Picked it up on Sept 29. It is now Nov. 16 and I've put 5000 miles on it. At 80 MPH it gets about 26 to 28 MPG. It will also do 110 MPH. Just an FYI.

You're Canadian hybrid power gauge works differently than my US truck. Green is recharge by Regen. White is you're way into the mechanical brakes. Left of ZERO is charging. Right of ZERO is using power. If all electric the meter won't go very high at all (like no more than 10%). Above that you're using the engine. You can use both simultaneously. There's a power flow screen on the center dash that graphically shows the power flow; charging, engine, and/or ev mode.

You've got the power hybrid meter wrong. The green part is too show how efficiently you are charging the battery through regenerative braking. The other portion with the percentage points shows combined electric and engine output. Its not just battery. So you'll never go into the green when your hitting the gas. Its there to help prevent you from using the brakes too much at a given time. If it goes over then you are using your disc brakes and wasting energy that could otherwise be stored by the battery.

Its smart because taking off from a dead start consumes the most fuel in gas engines. The electric engine gets you moving up to speed saving you fuel and then if you pass 40 mph your gas engine kicks in consuming less fuel because its already moving and moving less dead weight helps you get more mpg.

you are wrong about the left side instrument....when the needle goes into the green that's how much regenerative braking you are doing

Some false information here. Green on the gauge isn't for electric usage.... that is charging. The power gauge isn't just for gas or electric, it is a combination of both and can operate in this range under electric or gas.

Thank you for explaining when the engine is running on all ELECTRIC. I have a question about that part of the TRIP gauge: When I start my Maverick above the ELECTRIC blue word it says; ALL ELECTRIC and that stays there until I accelerate a bit...what is this telling me - the ALL ELECTRIC notice on the trip gauge?

After 490 days, I just got my Maverick hybrid Lariat with a luxury package that rolled into the 2023 model. Maybe because it's a Lariat lux package or a 2023 model, but I do not see the "Instantaneous" fuel setting as an option. Your display looks different from mine in that yours is in four quadrants and mine is in five lines. Is there something in the Lariat Lux screen that is similar to the Instantaneous setting? This being my first hybrid vehicle, I'm curious as to when it's running in electric mode and when it is in combination mode and what percentage is electric and what is gas. Great video, by the way

Glad you showed the dash configurator. It has almost all the settings I would choose. The only one missing is the tachometer. Not a biggie because you can display instant mpg. Can you configure a tack on your android auto/Apple car play settings? So a tachometer would be displayed on the center dash main screen?

I think my vehicle is identical to yours. How do you turn on the pre-collision assist and what does the info screen look like when it is in use? I have mine set on, but I don't get notifications when I approach a vehicle.

I have a Toyota Tundra 2x2 SR5 that gets 15mpg average without towing. Looking for people who traded in their full sized pickup trucks for the Maverick Hybrid…and trying to find out if they regret the downsizing.

Totally random but I am genuinely curious what accent this is. I couldn't be anymore of a US American and I struggled to understand chunks of this. I can understand accents from foreign countries more easily than this oddly enough. This must def be from somewhere North like Wisconsin or something huh?

The Maverick is not a trucklet. Nor is it a compact truck. Ranger & Tacoma which both are WAY bigger than the Mav are compact trucks. Remember back in the 80's when the Japanese trucks first came to North America? They called them MINI TRUCKS. The mav is the same size as a mini truck so the mav is a mini truck. !

My Hybrid finally scheduled to build on May 5, ordered July 7th. As an owner of electric Leaf there is one guage/meter I have not seen on the Ford. Is there a way to check actual battery charge and capacity? My Leaf will show charge and a bar to show any diminishing of overall life of battery.

Thats not how the power indicator works, like at all.

You can also start the Maverick from anywhere you have phone signal. Better yet,,, You can turn it off if somebody steals it.
