2022 Hoka Hey - Pan America set up and after action

I ran and finished the 2022 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge with my 2021 Pan America Special. I rode it from Florida to Sturgis, ran the entire Challenge, and then rode back to Florida without getting towed. I mention that first because there are some folks out west (including HD techs) incorrectly spreading the word all the Pan Ams broke down and couldn't make it.
This is my review of running my Pan America in the 2022 Hoka Hey. First, I go over and show the setup for the Hoka Hey, then I cover how they worked out, some issues I had with the bike at the end, and what I'll do different next time.
If you like this video feel free to subscribe & share, and if you have any questions or suggestions for what you'd like to see feel free to comment!
I found out that there's enough subscribers to open up a community tab. As I get more time I'll start by copying my Instagram posts and photos from the Hoka Hey (I had just started an account and was still learning how to use it).
The Hoka Hey was quite an adventure, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Jim, you are a phukking machine!! Your passion for motorcycling is in to way relative to the number of YT subscribers that you have! You are as genuine as the day is long, and that is somewhat unique in today’s YT environment. It would be an honor for me to attempt to hang with you on a ride across these amazing United States! God bless you, sir!

Well done sir! That sounds like an amazing rally. I am happy that your "bumps in the road" were not major and you were able to finish.

Wow! Congratulations on finishing this harrowing journey. In Switzerland, we have a no-highway event that's called the Swiss 500 miles. 24 hrs. (no sleep) of high mountain passes. I tape a headlamp to my forehead on low so I can read the papers they give you (same size as yours), but I like your solution of writing a few instructions on the windsheild. I plan on riding my Pan America for that this year.

That sounds like fun, and something I'd try if I was ever over there.

What an inspiration! I've done a Saddle Sore 1K and a Bun Burner (silver) Ultra Limited and ridden to Alaska on my '22 PAS. Because of your video, now I'm interested in the Hoka Hey. More research needed. Thanks for posting and congrats on an epic accomplishment. Keep on ridin'.

Appreciate it, was a fun ride. Though the mileage was about the same, a very different event. If I have time I might do a video comparing the IBR & Hoka Hey. Headed of to work now (have to pay for this somehow).

Sounds like a great adventure. I never heard of anyone riding a chain off the bike like that. I am so glad you are ok. I guess if my fuel pump starts to go I will hear it? Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.

You'll hear it. When you turn on your bike you'll get a real high-pitched squeal as it pressurizes the system before you start it.

I got to say I think you made a mistake with the fuel pump was while you were in Sturgis you should have stayed an extra day and had the people in Arkansas bad exit to you overnight that fee is $102 from FedEx maybe you toss another 20 bucks to the people in Arkansas or whatever cost of your hotel room was a little bit under a hundred and you could have saved all that worry that the bike was going to break down in the middle of nowhere all for the cost of $102 maybe next time you run into that sort of situation you might at least consider that personally that's what I would have done I have driven from Seattle to Florida five times so far and luckily never a breakdown but I'm mentally prepared for it to happen... Last time had a battery issue in the middle of Wall South Dakota on a Sunday what do you think my odds are that I could have got a battery in wall at the only local auto parts store which I believe is a Napa probably not good.. Lol..

I do have a bad habit of pushing through things, when it probably would have been a better (& safer) plan to do like you said.

@@floridajim you know I do have to Amanda what I said saying that I've never broken down.. One of my trips I used my car.. Not 🏍️ and lost transmission in green River Wyoming.. About a mile from the exit.. Had to stay four days to get it replaced... But I did have the tools in my trunk..I could have done it myself if needed.. Trouble was even though it was June.. It was snowing in the mornings... Cold cold work l to do outside in the super 8 parking lot

This is why BMW GS’s are shaft drive. Harley made a big mistake in that regard.

Why is a chain a mistake? Africa Twin and others are using chain. I can repair and get down the road with a chain. A broken driveshaft and you're screwed. Yes, shafts break too.

I changed it to "jim.in.florida" since florida.jim was already taken, just forgot to update the link. Lately it's been more mountain bike related since the bike's been in the shop
