Wheels you should do another video telling why honda is selling us a lower grade car. Honda Australia is selling a civic saying its full of tech but truth is the cars missing out on alot of seriously nice featured offered in other countries like canada and america FOR THE SAME PRICE IF NOT MORE. AUSTRALIAN'S ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF. Until Honda Australia lifts its game selling us quality cars again ill be keeping my old school hondas and buy another brand when the time comes.
Owned 5 Hondas in my lifetime, the last was a Civic RS. For 50k, better off buying a certified pre owned merc or bmw or Lexus, the features in the civic were already there in last gen euro cars or the lexus
Great Review. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. The price really is a sticking point though, isn't it? Honda Australia has talked about introducing "Price certainty" with their fixed price, agency model, and fair enough I guess. Tesla has done it this way from day zero. But a Honda Civic isn't a Tesla, that's for sure. And they also claim that the car has more "Premiumness" than the previous version (Their words, not mine). This car costs 20% more than the same version of this car in the 10th Gen series and has no sunroof, no sedan model, and a "work-experience" 7-inch digital dash instead of the 10-inch version available in the Japanese and North American markets. I wanted to like this car. I really did. But it's a hard choice to go ahead with when this price increase doesn't appear to have occurred in other markets
This reviewer is fantastic! And great to hear that the Civic has a really good chassis and could be, well will be ready for more power. Perhaps this is more refined to its competitors at the lower price bracket.
Honda Australia is seriously closing itself off to the Australian new car buyer. One feels they don’t have a desire to be in Australia. Honda Australia have stopped importing and selling the Jazz. The new Jazz is available as an e-HEV hybrid version across the ditch in New Zealand with an infotainment system and AC controls are very similar to the new Civic. The range of Honda cars offered in Australia is limited and no longer enticing to the new car buyer. The CVR was introduced in 2017 with a mild makeover in 2020 which included very minimal cosmetic changes like a new grill, bumpers, a smoked taillight cluster, different wheels and a trapezoidal exhaust tip replacing the round ones, not forgetting a phone charger for the top VTI-L model. Not a great effort by any facelift standard. The Honda Accord is very nice car, but another large sedan that is hardly on anyone’s shopping list. SUVs and Utes are the rage today. So, the Accord won’t bring any buyers into the showroom. The HRV is also aging with its underpowered and noisy engine, one would have thought they would have used the Civic’s 1.5 turbo unit on the HRV. Lastly the Odyssey, who buys People Movers today? Now we have the 11th Gen Civic priced at $47,200. One model, one price. Honda has shut its door to the 30k-40K buyer who, until the launch of the 11 Gen Civic, could get themselves into a brand new 10th gen Civic hatch within that price range, including the range topping RS which included parking sensors. These buyers will now walk across the yard to Kia, Hyundai, Mazda or Toyota to spend their hard-earned dollars. You’ve lost out on sales Honda with your Honda Price Promise, there is no Joy in buying from you. To sell a Civic at $47,200 in 2022 with no parking sensors, not sunroof or option for one, no USB at the back, no ventilated seats in the front, no heated steering wheel, no full digital instrument display and still using USB-A connections is a recipe for disaster . Why is Honda so afraid to step into the future with USB-C and other technologies that the Koreans and other rivals are using. Just brand loyalty will not sell cars. So which buyer is Honda targeting in Australia with the new Civic?
Die hard Honda enthusiast here who sadly has to agree with most of this. I’ve owned and driven plenty of cars but I always seem to end up back in a Honda. My wife and I daily our 2012 Accord Euro and love it because of the motor and sporty 6 speed manual. I have a DC5 Integra Type S that I’ll never sell just because of that amazing K20 motor. I’ve always wanted to buy a brand new Honda, but nothing they sell here makes me excited anymore. The fixed prices are suicide and all of their new cars are woefully over priced anyway. At least make an effort at becoming a premium brand by importing the Acura range and more of the cool, foreign Hondas that we just don’t get here.
USB C connections are currently unavailable and many manufacturers have defaulted to the As, even if they don’t want to. The world is in a right mess and the car makers are trying to cope.
Honestly, get a Mazda 3 G25 Astina. The burgundy leather is seriously nice. You can even add the kuroi body kit (front sides back and spoiler) and welcome illumination and it still costs less. You’ll get all the top tier features like 360 cam, front rear sensors, sunroof, auto dimming mirrors, heated mirrors, heated seats and steering, radar cruise with stop and go, HUD, bose speaker system, adaptive LED, keyless, and much much more. And the car itself is more gorgeous too. This Civic is just not worth the money when you compare it to the maxed out Mazda 3.
But.. a Mazda, really! Nothing quite compares with the drive this Honda offers. It may be expensive, but it is better. Actually in European terms it isn’t even particularly expensive.
@@richardsmith579 Hyundai i30 n-line premium sedan drives better than Hondas measley 1.5 turbo and it's almost 7k cheaper here in Australia A Mazda 3 isn't fun and has a weak engine so I have no idea what he's on about
Test drove both the civic (twice) and the Mazda 3. The Mazda benefits from the 360° camera and HUD. But is much smaller inside. It feels somewhat cramped next to the civic and has a meaningfully smaller boot than the civic. Both a wonderful cars but the civic must be experienced with a text drive. It's fantastic and imo looks better in person than the mazda. Prefer the civic.
@@guymp Agree. I drove both cars and ended up choosing the civic mainly because of the extra space and how it drives. Mazda 3 Astina was really great as well. I'd be happy with either.
Honda has always been priced higher than Japanese competitors. The Accord has long been a more premium offering than the Liberty, Camry and whatever Mitsubishi has brought out, and the price reflects it. They brought in the Legend and MDX, targeting the premium buyers of the large sedan and large SUV markets. They brought out the NSX 30 years ago which exceeded the Ferraris and Porsches of the day (even the new one is right up there). The surprise of Honda aspiring higher is a bit mystifying to be honest.
It's a nice car, it looks good, nice interior, but no way is it worth the asking price, considering you can get an I30n with more oomph for the same kind of money, but each their own
🚨 DONT BUY THIS CAR UNTIL YOU KNOW THIS!! LOOK AT THE CIVIC SOLD IN CANADA 🍁 AND AMERICA 🇺🇸 AND YOU WILL SEE THIS CAR IS NOT PREMIUM SPEC FOR THE PRICE BEING SOLD IN AUSTRALIA! 😡
That's interesting, I've just spoken with Honda's PR boss and he confirms there hasn't been any price change since launch. Feel free to email me at mike.stevens at wheelsmedia.com.au
That's the sticking point, yeah. Honda has gone to pains to remind us that the Civic has not always been a super affordable offering, but does this package and price make sense in today's market? Time will tell. - Mike Stevens
A clever 45 litres under the boot floor, because there is no spare!!!! I couldn't care less about no sunroof, however no F&R parking sensors in 2022 for a premium trim, not real leather seats, what a joke. Easily 10 grand overpriced.
silly comment re. the wheels. there is only one variant and if the reviewer did any research this is supposed to be a top spec model. vti-lx or something
Honda Australia’s sheer arrogance is genuinely astounding. What is its plan? Get more profit out of cars, sure, but its cars are now priced so offensively bad that nobody will buy them.
sponsored by honda??, this car is so ridiculously overpriced in fact, sales are down 80%. no sunroof? WTF? no Proper spare? No front park sensors? average engine, and its only a medium hatch! This car is good......yeah, so is a rolls royce, but only the rich can afford it!!!
This is not a review.....it is a sales job. Obviously, Honda is promising to spend a bit on advertising in Wheels magazine. Ridiculously priced car with an under powered engine and an annoying CVT gearbox. No spare wheel or sunroof and fixed price. Honda is not going to last long selling any cars in Australia.
Mate, I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous comment. Did you watch the video in full? Dan highlights a number of shortcomings. Brands don't pay for criticism - even if you think they'd allow it so the 'paid review' appears more authentic, I promise that does not happen.
@@MikeStevens Yes, I watched the full review. I am one of the very first subscribers to this channel and also a very long time subscriber to the magazine. Dan, very briefly points out and just about skips through the shortcomings. Also, never mentions the omission of a spare tyre or the sunroof. Of course, brands do not pay for criticism but they will decide where they will spend more advertising dollars. In this review, in my opinion, Dan seemed to show Honda that even if the car is overpriced and missing features of the previous model, he can showcase it in a favourable light to fuel customer interest. Just my opinion. Merry Christmas to all!
Talks about huge amount of leg room in the back. Let's see you sit there with your normal driving position and show me the HUGE amount of leg room at over 6 feet tall.
