I can see where you and others are coming from but for me this is absolutely everything I've wanted in a bike. Reserved styling that looks aerodynamic, comfortable riding position, Honda quality, 400+ km range, plain white color with no edgy graphics (you won't believe how uncommon this is on motorcycles), and overall great value for money. The only thing that's missing is a driveshaft but I don't mind chain maintenance. What I had always wanted was something that looked like a Goldwing but smaller, and this is exactly it.

I’ve recently bought the manual transmission version having moved up from a Yamaha Tracer 7. A little tweak in the user drive mode and it’s my perfect ride. So comfortable and with the quick shifter just a joy.

11:36 - you're in Drive mode, which is the high fuel economy option. Hit D again & you'll be in Sport 1, then Sport 2, then Sport 3. Depending on how crazy you like to ride, one of them will provide all the thrills you want. These shift just that little bit later each time. Most folks seem to prefer Sport 2. Also, if you want ultimate control, there's the manual button, with the up & down shifters on the left handlebar.

I own this bike (and love it). I never ride it in "D" mode as I agree it shifts far too early - in 6th gear by 30mph! However it also has 3 sports modes. I find riding in S1 or S2 has much better shifting

I ride a 2021 Africa Twin, which not only shares the engine, but also a very big part of the frame. @tommypip I totally agree. You can ride the bike in D mode, but this completely chokes the engine and ruins the driving experience. When you put it in S1, it not only shifts later, but it also eliminates the jerkiness of the engine. In S3 she really comes to life with nice rev matching on the downshifts. If you have only tested D mode, you have been missing out big time. Also noticed from touring in the alps that the brakes keep getting better and better when you push the bike and the pads are higher in temperature. @TMF Keep on the good work! Greetings

Nice review but you needed to explore the different riding modes. They offer varying shift points which allows you to select a rev range that suits what you like. Plus the amount of information and amount of data from the dash screen. Yes, lots of switches but also lots of flexibility with information. For example setting engine braking. Agree its a shame the windscreen is manual and is only really adjustable while stopped and off the bike. You didn't cover the engine performance other than the lugging at low revs and higher gears. The smoothness throughout the rev range is very good, once a suitable gear is chosen. The lugging could also have been eliminated by hitting the down button with your thumb. Works wonderfully. Or choosing a different riding mode. You glossed over the need for two displays as Apple Carplay or Android Auto will occupy the main 6.5 inch display so the smaller screen will still show speed and gear position. Nicely done and very legible. The lean angles are quite good for fast mountain roads with sharp curves. The leg and foot peg position is ideal for Sport/touring. The angle is just right. I guess thats about it, that was not covered. Cheers,,,😁

Great review. Looks like a well equipped - very capable tourer. Honda have always come up a little short on power but I've owned many Honda's over the years and the power has always been a little more than enough. I presume this increases the life of the mechanics as a whole and gives them the reliability reputation they deserve. Thanks for the review buddy.

Thing about the deflectors & the indicators though - you'll never have any problem at night knowing whether your indicators are on, have self cancelled or not. The left handlebar cluster is a bit of a mess of buttons & it's easy to end up flicking the left or right cursor switch instead of the indicators - it's the same switchgear on the Africa Twin, which I have - but with these deflectors you can see what's going on without having to look too hard & take your eyes off the road. I think that's pretty cool.

I always enjoy your reviews. I have a '21 Africa Twin. You are correct in that the LH instrument cluster is not super intuitive, especially if you are only able to spend a couple of hours with the bike. However, much more than that and it will become second nature. Honda has always put the button for the horn in a strange place compared to other manufacturers. If I spend very much time on one of my other bikes then go back to the Twin, I inevitably honk the horn when trying to signal a turn. Makes me look and feel very cool.

If in Tour mode or any of the auto modes you can override it with the manual up/down (on the left behind all the switches). Without leaving the DCT then it just operates automatically.

I've got one and love it. You soon get used to the quirks and the fact that it does the job so effortlessly makes up for things like the fussy switchgear (which you soon get used to). I wish the screen was electric and that the original seat was comfortable but just small points. Great review though as always.

I am a Honda fanboi but no matter how hard I try I cannot love this bike. I had a loan bike overnight so managed to get a decent ride on it and ultimately the engine is a deal killer. I have a VFR 1200X with a very smooth V4 that I may change next year and the NT was a candidate. Agree with just about everything you say in the review and it really surprised me how it carries it's weight. 👍

Huge fan of Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission reviews DCT bike and notes that it short shifts in tour mode :-) Please start the reviews of DCT machines in Manual mode where you have full control of the box, then slip it into Drive and use manual intervention with the paddle and trigger (The ECU learns over time) and then finally use full auto The engine in this has plenty of character and go if you take full control of the dual clutch box. In fact, in manual mode under acceleration it’s probably worth 10 horsepower due to the seamless, constant drive as you chuck cogs at it

I own one with DCT in grey. I find it very stable in both very low and very high speeds, which is great. Hitting the indicators is a challenge and there’s no room for the mobile phone so why have car play? Those are my only negatives. It renders a great safe feeling due to its stability.

Nice review. I'm with you on the uninspiring engine when compared to the Suzuki and Kawasaki but the Honda is cheaper (in manual form) and better equipped than both of them if you include panniers. In reality though I see this as more of a competitor to big adventure bikes for those that don't want a tall bike. It certainly looks better than the rather ridiculous looking "factory lowered" versions of the GS........and that is what it really is.......a "factory lowered" Africa Twin.

Yes, it's a GS rival with no off road pretentions. Even an RT rival. A sports- tourer that is biased towards the touring aspect. And compared to those, it's much cheaper.

Great honest review, I’m looking for a tourer for next year whilst keeping my (old but trusty) VFR750. I love the V twin sound and can happily suffer the grunty feel of the engine!

Hi did you say you prefer smooth 4 cylinder engines for touring didn't you do a lot of tours on your twin cylinder GS personally I think the NTS engine is brilliant. I do agree that the colour's are bland and the screen should of had a lever for adjusting on the go but personally I will wait till honda rectify these problems.One last thought I've sat my wife on all three bike's Suzuki GT Kawasaki zx and honda nt wins for pillion comfort hands down good review as always 👍

Just had a test ride on one of these and I agree totally with your review. I was both immensely impressed and disappointed at the same time. The comfort and ease of use when on the move was great but - the switch gear was a nightmare (and I own another Honda). I never did get the cruise control to work. The manual screen caught me out (I spend 20 mins with the switch gear trying to adjust it), but the biggest issue was the DCT. It worked a treat on duel carriageways and A roads but get it on twisty B roads and it was a nightmare. It kept getting bogged down and the engine became very rough trying to get moving with too few revs. A real Jekyll and Hyde machine.

I'm another one who was looking forward to your review thankyou. I'm not sure if I missed it but a big factor for me is the lack of a shaft drive, and like you say, the lack of electronic adjustable screen (or suspension)is a great shame, but I respect they had to cut costs somewhere. I'm also not a fan of the dash, it looks odd especially with the LCD underneath that iPad (as I like to call em). Even though my FJR is a heavy lump, I won't be changing it anytime soon that's for sure (we've just come back from Norway, what an epic trip). Super job as always Andy many thanks for the video.

Good review, enjoyed it. Nice to see what Honda are doing now. I used to have 2 Blackbirds and they were fantastic but since their demise Honda don't seem to have been as good. the looks of this bike is the sort of bike only its Mother could love. Bring back the Blackbird people will buy it.

Andy Honest review as usual. I bought a Dct in grey, it replaced my Crosstourer which I wasn’t enjoying anymore, mainly because of the weight which I felt was top -heavy. As said, good review and impartial keep them videos coming.

Cracking review as always. No real interest in this bike (I already have a Goldwing & I prefer shifting myself). But your reviews are always informative & entertaining. For checking if you hit the turn signals you can always check the reflection in the wind wings. Quicker than looking down at the dash. Cheers from America.

I've been looking forward to this review and it didn't disappoint. When Honda launched this bike, I really wanted to love it, as it seemed to offer a lot of what I might want in a bike. Sadly though, whilst I've still admire its for its functionality and practicality, Honda seem to have removed an awful lot of kerb appeal in the design process. The looks of the bike are disappointing and lacking any flair, made worse by a boring choice of colours. The result is a bike that I might need but I'm never going to want. The only point I would disagree on is its value for money, I think that, considering you're comparing a Dct bike against manual opposition and the very high level of standard equipment on the Honda (panniers, centre stand, heated grips etc), it's very good value for money when compared to the Kawasaki and the Suzuki, on which many of the included items on the Honda are expensive options (the panniers on the Suzuki, for example are an eye watering £1282 and the heated grips £452!). I rode the NT1100 DCT and it is a well made bike, but where it lacks it is in the engine department. It is not really an exciting bike. Can check my videos of it.

As a owner of a 2016 africa twin, I was excited as well about this bike. 17" wheels and a very sober twin engine was what I was looking for as my next bike! I know for some people the engine on the paper looks a little boring, but it's more than enough for any situation. No one really needs a 160/180 HP touring bike, am I right? And like you said, the big disappointment is really aesthetic. when I saw it with my own eyes for the first time It simply looks like a big scooter, or some 20 years old bike. Maybe next gen(s) will bring some improvements. I'll keep the AT for now, 4,3l /100km, 15k kms the front tyre, 30k rear tyre (metzeler tourance next) front brakes I'll say about 40 or 50k, rear brake 20k. Very affordable as a daily bike.

Got myself a new VFR800 a few years ago and had a few issues which the dealership couldn't resolve so don't think I'll get another Honda anytime soon. Got a Triumph and had no complaints 👌

Particularly liked the 'Fonzie' double thumbs up during the fashion segment, next time if you could say 'aaaaaayyyy' that would be appreciated 👍 Another good honest review, I've had three hondas, one with DCT and they can go up the box far too quickly in the basic mode, you need to select a sportier option. Also quite fun using the finger and thumb shifters.

YES! When you said in the Parish Notices that your review of this was coming, I was really happy (and a bit sad to hear you're doing less bike reviews, but I understand why and fully appreciate that). I'm also really pleased to see you had the DCT model as a lot of the reviews I have watched were in the manual. You may want to update the video title to include it (or the tags) so you get a bit more traffic for that aspect.

One thing to note on the weight , the 238kg mentioned here is for a manual bike. It's actually 248kg for the DCT

Nice to get a unbiased critical review of this bike. I’ve been a Honda man for well over 40 years and now don’t own a Honda. This bike should have been a relation a d development of the Deauville ( owned 3 ) and the St1300 ( owned 2) In fact it’s an unashamed and poor development of the Africa Twin into a sports tourer. Not for me and I so wanted it to be so. Honda will have to do better to get me off my 1250 RT that is in my mind the top dog in sports tourers. The Kawasaki and Suzuki both are great bikes but not great pillion bikes. The Deauville was the St1300 was and the 1250 Rt is. Come on Honda you are being taken to the cleaners here ( and they don’t have any bikes in dealers even if you wanted to buy one ) keep em coming …..

I was looking forward to this coming out as I'm a veteran, professional 'boring Dullsville' rider, but try as I might I'm not taken with the looks of the thing or the lack of shaft drive. My current NT700 (my third) is only 10 years and 77,000 miles old. It will stay in the garage a bit longer, I think...

Great review Andy. There was a time when Honda would have designed a new sports tourer from scratch rather than adapting the Africa Twin. You get the impression they’ve lost interest in bikes lately. No doubt it’s competent, but we want more than that from our bikes. The power and weight are no better than my 25 year old VFR750FV. As for the colours, grey, light grey and dark grey…

At least the vfr750fv went 152mph. Surprisingly heavy though. As where many of 750's around then suzuki gsx-r750 was also made of lead.

Loved my vfr750 & 800s. The 1200 was a step to far for me in weight and cost. Honda need a nice styled vfr1000 to compete with the kwaka sx.

all manufacturers make multiple bikes from the same engine/frame these days. it's just business sense, why make a whole new set of tooling, design work, engineering work and so on, to make a new frame for 1 bike to have shaft drive (for e.g.) So i do not see how you feel they are disinterested in making bikes, as then why do they still come out with new models and updates and a race/class leading litrebike in the Fireblade....

Great review! Obviously the elephant in the room is that the bike is not a shaft drive. I think many old Honda Revere, NT600 and 700 Deauville owners, including myself, would have liked that. 🙂

I bumped into a couple guys in the shell garage (betws y coed) who had one of these. Hed had it 6 months, it looked like showroom condition for 8k miles. I asked about the buttons, but he said he got used to it almost immediately and loved them! Was a much nicer bike up close than from afar!

Good morning, Andy. I really appreciate another fabulous review. You and I both have the gold wing DCT and love it hear what you would think about this particular bike. One comment is isn't it odd how they give you a wonderful 12 volt socket on this bike but they didn't find a place to put one on our gold wing? That's something that has never made sense to me having to spend time and money to wire 12 volt power up to the steering head for accessories. Why didn't Honda give us that on a bike costing three times more money?. I would like to have an adjustable screen as well on this NT but not at the price they were offering I suppose though the mechanism could be far better. Great review TMF, thankyou. Looking at one of these as my upgrade to a bigger bike in 2023. I’ve also test ridden the DCT version and certainly agree on the apparent short-shifting niggle, and that was with the dealer recommending riding it in S1 mode… I wouldn’t have that option though so not a problem AFAIC. In fact I test rode a non-DCT AT just to be sure of the engine/gearbox suitability of what I wanted. I’ve also test ridden the Ninja 1000SX and the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT and agree they’re both great IL4 options - the Suzuki being the better of the two IMO, and it’s a great looking bike IRL! But it’s the NT1100 for me I think.

The reason it felt "lumpy" in Tour setting was because you had the bike in D mode and not one of the three S (Sport) setting modes. I have a 2020 Honda ATAS DCT and find that I almost always have the bike in S2 (switch gear on right bar) mode. Transforms how the bike feels. Hesitation is gone and the gears shift at higher revs.

Six cylinder engine probably helps on Goldwing? I had a 2010 VFR 1200 DCT (over 100,000 km when sold) and my wife still has a 2012 VFR 1200 DCT (85,000 + km's so far), had a 2021 Rebel 1100 DCT (1200 km's) but sold after one season (hated riding position) and have had the 2020 ATAS ( 20,000 + km's) since it was released in 2020. In my experience there have been many noticeable improvements to the DCT since the original 2010 release but they all felt sluggish in regular D-Mode, probably intentionally by Honda who lean toward nanny modes with early shifts. All the DCT's I have owned so far felt noticeably lumpy in the D mode. If Honda dealers allowed test rides here in Canada I would try out the DCT Goldwing to see what you are feeling on yours. I'll likely chase down that Wing if I ever want to let go of the ATAS because I can't handle the forestry trunk roads anymore. Thanks for the NT1100 review as my wife is intrigued but Honda has so far declined to sell it across the pond.@@TheMissendenFlyer

@@timoakley277 Sorry if I was not clear. Yes the bike in my case is a DCT and I rarely go manual with the paddle shifters. With the bike in DCT mode (almost always) I have the bike in S2 setting (the middle sport setting) even in Tour, Urban, Gravel and Off-Road riding modes (there are four). Just better throttle response from my experience. To each his own, as TheMissendenFlyer pointed out, my experience was not his.

The start-up screen may not make the bike the best get-away bike as you say (unless you leave it running) but on the other hand the DCT comes in handy if you need to shoot your way out of a tricky situation and you're left handed 🤪

Good review. I couldn't agree with you more Andy. Almost the exact same things and points you talked about were all the things I observed about the machine. I would so, still, go for the Africa Twin Adventure Sports every time in choosing between the two, so much better looking and more purposeful and versatile the Africa Twin is in my view.

Interesting review, the NT isn't a bad looking bike at all , the only downside is the colour (or lack of it) which makes the bike look plain boring, Honda need to dig the colour palettes out and paint it bright red or even that lovely blue seen on your Wing, it would be far more appealing then.

A nice review of the bike. I'm in a bit of a dilemma atm as I want to change bikes to something a bit more touring-focused but will still give me a bunch of fun when I get there. Currently considering a Ducati Supersport - tested one recently and dayum it bloody goes and is comfortable enough. May need to try a Honda though. Thanks as always TMF!

Thanks for this. Very useful. I’ve been considering one of these for touring on in future. For some reason, the bike I am considering alongside it is a Tiger 900 GT Pro. I’ve not ridden either yet. Part of me would prefer a dedicated tourer to a road biased adventure bike, but then that’s what the NT100 is really. So in that respect there’s little difference between them.

I have the tiger 1200 - essentially the 900 with a bigger lump. Mine is off-road biased. I think you'll enjoy the Tiger more in all respects except maybe seat comfort. And if you want to get closer to the DCT, get a Tiger by the tail with the quick-shifter/blipper - silky smooth.

An enjoyable review. I would probably put its main rival as the Tracer 9GT as the Z1000 and GSx1000GT would be more focused on the sporty end of the spectrum. I don't know why Honda market the NT1100 as a sports tourer.

In Australia the Ninja 1000SX and GSXS1000GT both sell for $19,000. The non DCT Honda sells for $23,000! Hard to see Honda selling many of them here.

Just don't get why all you RU-vidrs have an issue with the switchgear it's easy to use and have some of the best connectivity of any bike if you don't try it then don't knock it. Also your using the DCT in D mode which is town driving it has three sport modes and a manual mode I surprised you don't know that no wondered you didn't like how lumpy it's riding on open roads it needs to be in sport 2 for best all round for the gearbox these modes are seperate to the riding modes like tour you had the bike set in.

Good watchable review as always. Would have thought that the NT1100 would be more compared to the Kawasaki Versys and Susuki V-Strom, as its more sit up and beg. Always wanted an Africa Twin right from the 1990's, but find the new versions are too tall, and this might NT1100 might be a compromise.

Interesting video Andy. I found there was a vibration through the handlebars when I tried one. Apparently the vibration isn't as noticeable in the manual version.

Enjoyed the review, everything you said is right, I got mine in April, she is going in Friday for her 12000km service. Yesterday she had Pilot Road 6 GT put on, I shall be riding them in today on a Dambusters Tour. What I don't like ist that you don't have a glovebox to put your phone in once connected, I have mine under the seat after having laid a cable nice and tidy under the fairing. As far as the Windscreen goes, I put it on day one in the highest position and haven't changed it since. The screen does take a long time to start, but I turn the Ignition in before I put on my gloves, by the time I'm done, it's ready. I shall be off now, have fun and ride safe.

A great honest review of the Honda. I’m just put off by the looks of the bike and the dull colours. Who works in their development department. How did you not mention the Yamaha Tracer 9GT as a rival. The same bike with the same spec, but a better engine and better colours. Ok, odd TFTs but I hear that may change in 2023. Keep up the great work/reviews/commentary I never miss a posting.

Do agree about the bland styling. A wine red color like you get on the Goldwing would certainly add some life to the looks of the bike. Was it short shifting in Drive or Economy mode? Surely you can adjust the settings on the gearbox to suite your style/preference? I have 2019 NC 750 with the DCT gearbox and can't complain about the default setting.

Agreed with other posters, you need to try other riding modes to judge the bike but you just kept it in D mode! Honestly you need to come up to speed on how modern gimmicks works on bikes in year 2022, but you just brush if off in most reviews. Okay we can all agree that how the bike rides/feel is the most important but the whole experience is best enjoyed with all the toppings added. I am a happy owner of an Africa Twin 1000 DCT and ride it all the time in sports mode 2 unless I go off-road.

Hi Andy, hope your well. I have been a subscriber from the start of your channel and continue to enjoy your content. I have never commented on a any channel before but unfortunately for me this review was disappointing. Apologies if this seems harsh but found the review to have inconsistencies, contradictions, inaccurate and missed info. Most definitely not your normal review critique, it seemed rushed with lots of "personal opinion". The NT has 5 modes as you say, yet no mention of the 3 sport modes in each. The bike was ridden in Drive mode for the entire review which is the least responsive. The screen was criticised early in the review for wind pressure on your shoulders yet later your were riding in a "bubble of calm". You mentioned a slight lean forward in the riding position with some weight on your arms - the category is Sports Tourer as said at the start. The comparison and preferred bike was with a Kawasaki which you said you had ridden 3 to 4 years ago and since has been replaced. Please don't think this is a dig. I have enjoyed your content for years and look forward your future content. The perfect bike for all occasions as we know doesn't exist. Kind regards Chris.

On my Africa Twin, the time for the boot-up of the screen is a complete non-factor. I don't even notice it. You definitely don't need to wait for it to start, but I don't pull off that fast after starting the engine ever. There is rarely never anything that needs to be changed. Living with the bike is always a lot different than reviewing it.

Hi Andy, enjoyed your review, one point I would like to raise is on you being canted forward a little with weight on your wrists. Don't know if you can do it on the rider saddle but raising the height on the tank end and leaving the back low may help a little. I think for me the main gripe is on a touring mile munching bike it needs to have a drive shaft, so that would be a deal breaker for me. Your ensemble I particularly like that helmet, I'm going to see if they do one with a peak, and I must say Rukka gear is first class. Thank you...

I have DCT VFR1200 and it always makes me laugh when people knock DCT for not being a realistic biker experience. Then get on their auto blipping quick shifting squidmobile, which DCT in manual mode, is almost identical too, but 1000% better. Never ride with either D or S modes, always manual absolute heaven.

Good impartial advice Andy, I’ve just come back from the Yorkshire dales on little B roads with switch backs and off camber roads on a NC750 X , it works well, but on a bike the size your on, I would be worried about dropping it. I’ve had the VFR 1200 DCT in the past and the only reason it went was it was too heavy and top heavy at that. Is it me, but bikes are getting too heavy and too big ?

I had real interest in the NT so i did a testride myself about weeks ago. I really liked the NT but it could not convince me to trade in my trusty VStrom. Although i think that the NT is more comfortable than the VStrom on long trips.

I've just ordered the black manual NT which will be taking the place of my 15 plate Vstrom 1000, the NT is the first bike that I think is a better ride than the Vstrom. I tried a Africa twin, a new Vstrom and a Triumph tiger 900 also.

Great show Andy, as always, thank you very much. The Honda looks a little underwhelming and lacks an IMU, an adjustable suspension and some 20 to 30 more horses. To me the benchmark in this category is the long gone Triumph Tiger Sport 1050 and I still hope Hinckley will revive it. So you see, I'm not very much into the Honda 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great review of an interesting tourer. The problem is that its nowhere near like the old ST1100 & 1300 which were great, real touring machines. Shame it doesnt have a shaft drive. I bought a new ST1100 ( Pan European ) back in 1995 for £7000. Beautifully made, smooth turbine sounding 4 cylinder with 100HP and 110NM torque. That was 27 years ago... Did over 100k trouble free miles before selling it. The NT looks like a half finished tourer and the engine really belongs in the Africa Twin... Honda, please produce a new ST 🙏

I have just sold my ST1300 which I have owned for 15 years. An absolutely brilliant tourer. I wish someone would bring out a 'sub 1000cc' tourer, in 'real' tourer form, for us old guys to downsize to. E.g. Kawasaki should use the Z900rs motor in a proper touring bike.

A really interesting review, thank you Andy - The NT has always been a bike I have been interested in but I ended up going for a Multistrada V2S (which I love) instead - no regrets. I think there must be a small problem with your specs - max power at 5,000 rpm and max torque at 6,250 rpm just doesn't seem right (it's physics Jim, but not as we know it!). Agree that the engine sounds a bit laboured when pottering; maybe just trying a bit too hard to be smooth and quiet?

Where DCT comes into its own is filtering. It reduces the stress of filtering massively. I had an nx750 dct and it was brilliant. Dull, but brilliant. I've just ordered a nt1100. Unfortunately it is not as well matched with the dct as the 750. Low speed stuff is too sketchy for me.

Pride of ownership, ease of opperation, this is a miss, ugly hard to figure out controls way to many. All else it's a Honda, solid dependable machine. DCT had it for 17 years on my Honda Rincon, still works great.
