Quick Text Guide: Part 1: Converting to .PSU Are you working with a single save? (.max, .xps, etc like the ones online) 1. Open PS2Save Converter (X2Pconv.exe) 2. Click 'File'-> 'Open' then load your save file. 3. Once it's loaded, click 'File'->'Save' and save it with a name ending in .psu DONE! Are you working with an emulator save? (.PS2 FULL memory card) 1. Open mymc-gui.exe 2. Load up your virtual memory card 3. Click the save you want to export, then click 'File' ->'Export' 4. Make sure you save it as a .psu file! Part 2: Transferring to PS2 1. Copy all your .psu files to a fat32 formatted Memory card. 2. Load up LaunchElf 3. Browse to your PSU files, mark (press 'X' on) all the files you want, then copy them 4. Browse to the root of your memory card (mc0= memory card 1, mc1=memory card 2) 5. And from the (R1) menu select 'PsuPaste' 6. If you get a prompt to overwrite that mean the save already exists, 7. Once the box goes away you should be all set, test your save! Part 3: Exporting PS2 saves from real memory card. 1. Open 'launchelf' 2. Browse to the root of your memory card (mc0= memory card 1, mc1=memory card 2) 3. Press 'L1' to bring up the 'show content' window, then press 'Square' to show game titles, then 'Triangle' to close the window. 4. Press 'X' on the folders of the games you want to back up, and from the (R1) menu select 'copy' 5. Go to your flash drive 'Mass:/' then find a place to store your files then from the (R1) menu select 'PsuPaste' 6. you have the save files backed up in PSU format. You can convert them to whatever format you like, or import them into a virtual memory card with mymc-gui.exe
Bro I like how u added each section into chapters, how u explained how it works and u were taking your time allowing us to see what u clicking on, deserve a sub
I just lost a 300+ hours Ratchet: Deadlocked save after my console froze during an auto save, there goes my childhood memories in the gutter. 5/6/2022 I’m marking this down, gosh dang. Thank you for this.
My ps2 finally kicked the bucket after 20 years. I’ve tried emulating in the past but without my original saves it never felt the same. Thank you for your tutorial
Have you considered on getting it repaired? Depending on what went wrong it might be a cheap fix, a lot of retro game stores offer second hand repair services & there is always people online who make that their business. Just something to think about if it meant something to you
Thanks so much! I was thinking of selling my modded PS2 and play all my games on my modded PS3, but I wanted to get my saves off of the memory cards before I did. I was trying to find those old official USB adapters Sony made for the PS3. Had no idea it would be as easy as copying them all to a USB drive! Thanks again!
Thank you! I've been at for a day and you answered my questions! Now I can finally play all the games I wanted as a kid on my original ps2 and I can move my emulator saves over!
Awesome. Thanks for this. I used to have a Max drive and can't find one as I used it to transfer downloaded saves. I have a Free McBoot memory card though so I'm so happy I can use this to transfer saves again.
Really helped me, I play wild arms 3 and one puzzle room really infuriating me so I transfer it to emulator to take advantage of save state feature thank you so much for the tips
To convert your original PS2 saves to .psu, you have to add all three of the files: sys, icn/ico, and the games file name to the list then go to properties and change the name of the file which will be full SLUS or SCUS name of the game. I'll be uploading a video on how to do it. This part I had to figure out on my own because I haven't found a video that explains this part.
I don't know if I missed this, but does the PS2 go into that menu for the Launch ELF once you plug in the USB into the PS2? Like do you have to plug in the USB with the save data, and then press something in particular to launch it? or just restart the PS2 and it will automatically go to that menu? I'm referring to 04:52.
I copied the memory card files to my usb just using my action replay max (opl usb in 1° slot, other storage usb on the 2° slot). I just copied the .max files from my memory card to my usb (on my ps2 slim) and done. Kinda slow process but that's how people backed up saves 15+ years ago (before opl)
How do you do this if you have a PS2 to USB memory card adapter and you want to copy your physical memory card data for Haunting Ground PS2 onto pcsx2?
Would this work for converting save files from ps4 to a ps2 for the same game? I have Star Ocean Till the End of Time on both consoles and I’m trying to get my save onto my ps2
Fantastic video! Everything is clearly laid out and well explained. I was able to move a save from the web to my memory card without issue. I would like to talk to someone about doing some customization on a PS2 Madden game. Is there a way I can contact you? I'm happy to provide my email address and I can describe what I would like to do here if that would help (although it will be getting away from the topic of this video). Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the gaming community!
I used freemcboot to copy my saves from my actual PS2 memory card, to usb, then moved the files to my laptop. The saves ICO and sys format. I need to see how I can convert these files.
Not sure why nothing is showing up when I go to mass:/.. I formatted the USB drive several times but it's not working.. Edit: Figured it out, looked on another tutorial and the USB had to be formatted further with disk management so it can read on older consoles.
I'm going back to this tutorial once my Funtuna mmc arrives i can't wait to harvest my save files from my PS2 that's worth hours and i do not have the drive to unlock most of them LMAO XD
PastePSU is blocked/inaccessible to me, yes I made sure I copied first, I just can't "paste psu". What am I doing wrong??? I did rename them but they are still psu files 🤷
Trying to download a 100% save file of Jak 3, but it's a CBS file and not a max, and can't convert it into the PS2 save converter. What am I doing wrong or what should I do?
Hello budy, how are you? Congratulations on the video, it's very explanatory. But I'm not able to open my MC. Every time I click on its executable, it closes at the same time, understand? Do you know what it can be? Thanks Bro!
No cap this is the best method to transfer saves cause this worked on Narutimate Accel 2 and I can confirm it works on Japan changed region freemcboot. I’m running on 1.94 and it slaps! thanks for making this. Ive been wanting to play this game forever and I couldn’t figure out how til I came across this video
Will this procedure work for PS3? I can play PS2 games on PS3 and I have a PS2 memory card adapter for the PS3. If I save the converted file to a usb drive can I simply then copy this file using the PS3 usb port to the PS2 memory card using the PS3 memory card adapter? Thanks for any help.
I saw a ps2 memory card on Amazon the other day. Which was equipped with an SD card. Is it possible to copy your saves to it so that you can use the sd card on the PC for pcsx2?
Not sure if there is something wrong with the file I downloaded but the save won't show up in game and in mymc the directory says "NO_ROOT_NAME". Not sure what I'm missing for this to work on pcsx2.
Hey man, I’ve encountered 2 problems when doing this. The first one is that when I try to open the file in the converter the application crashes. I then used a different save and it shows the save on my memory card in the browser, but doesn’t load in the game. I’ve done this before for other games and it’s worked. Any idea?
Hi I was wondering if someone could help me with this, so I’ve copied the steps on this and multiple tutorials and no matter what I do after transferring the game save sole to the memory card and I open any game it doesn’t see the save file but looking onto the memory card it is there
Hi, when I psupaste the gamesave it says "Name conflict for this folder: mc0:/BASLUS-20294USER/ With gamesave title: Undefined (Not a gamesave) Do you wish to overwrite it?" I'm trying to overwrite my Gitaroo Man save, but once I load the save, it says there's no save data on the memory card.
how about if i dont have any saved files in the game and i want to put saved files , not making any overwrite psu copy. does this matter? i tried it and dont work.
Yes, you can import a save even if you've never used that game with your memory card, just follow the part of this video that shows downloading a save from the internet.
I never liked these weird programs for copying ps2 saves into the memory card. They look so primitive and annoying. I wish Brook made a memory card that allowed you to just plug stuff quick and copy paste quick. They made a converter for modern controllers for the Dreamcast. This also included an integrated vmu memory card. And a little program to grab saves from the internet to the adapter. You plug the adapter to the Dreamcast, and boom all the saves are ready to use. No annoying Free McDonald and Will Ferrell Elf Launch or whatever this weird thing is.
If you're having trouble with a process, asking questions or trying again is generally a better first step than assuming the process is flawed. Also, just saying "this doesn't work" won't actually help me figure out where you're having trouble either. In the future it may be more helpful if you simply state what part of the process you're having trouble with, and what steps you may have tried to correct it. That way, there's at least a chance you'll be able to get a solution to your issue.
is there something you were not clear on? I showed how to import the save in a Virtual memory card, once it's there it will load automatically in your emulator
Jesus christ, you'd think the emulator had all this built in. Flash drives, multiple apps needed. All to transfer a couple of max files to a pretend memory card so I can run a 20 year old game with updated rosters. Thanks anyway.
I used a sharkport to convert my saves like 15 year ago and could never use them My problem is i have the raw files but no psu files: .. 5/03/2012 9:47 2,856 BASLUS-20774us000010 5/03/2012 9:47 13,936 culd.ico 5/03/2012 9:47 964 icon.sys 5/03/2012 9:47 256 PS2_MC_Backup_Attributes.BUP.bin I have no idea how to convert this, after the fact, to the .psu files needed for PCSX2
