It's clearly a family SUV, of course rear passenger safety is a raised concern.

And clearly when the seatbelt tightened up when the impact happened it untightened so the rear passengers could literally be ejected from the car. And those people would mostly consist of children. Seems like they wouldn’t slack off on that since they have a decent rep about being safe cars.

This is a new, updated test. Many SUVs did poorly. For this updated test they added a smaller dummy in the back seat. Previously only the results were measured for the front occupant. The cars have not become less safe. The tests have become more difficult to pass. All these manufacturers will have to improve.
@Vanguard.I

The dummy here showed LESS movement than in the "Good" Explorer, yet was more likely to be injured. I'm not convinced this is a valid test. Manufacturers will of course adjust seatbelt performance to match the height and weight of this dummy. But what happens when an adult or smaller child is sitting there?
@pronpalunpo
@pronpalunpo Год назад
It’s movement that are specifically on critical parts of the body, there was a lot of sideways which is very damaging. There’s also obviously a lot more paint on the airbags.
@cookiebaker6133
@cookiebaker6133 4 месяца назад
I agree, without the data, just from visual measurement, some "poor" ratings are doing better than the "good" and "acceptable" ratings. Which I agree this test is not a valid test. Not to consider people can have different body sizes compare to the dummy used in this test. And also some details IMO is not considered in the rating as well, for example, rav4's back row dummy's head was stuck by the airbag which visually can cause a huge damage, also Nissan Frontier's back row dummy hits the back window which can also deal tons of damage. Instead of looking at how close the dummy's head is towards the front seat back, and the "kinetic" of the dummy, why ignoring the other details that cause huge damage to the dummy?
@Robonin
@Robonin 9 месяцев назад
I’ve been noticing that only gas cars have been getting a poor rating for sum odd reason every electric car is getting a A I’m not sure this is only a safety thing but also them pushing electric cars on us
@cookiebaker6133
@cookiebaker6133 4 месяца назад
I think it is because of the weight of the EVs, the battery is so heavy that the jump up of the car tail was significant lower. This can cause the back row dummy gets less kinetic energy and therefore less tension from the seatbelt. In the end less damage from the seatbelt tension.

People have lost sight that this test is rear dummy data related to the seatbelt. Look at the actual reports for the data. The auto manufactures with marginal or acceptable have belt pretensioners that immediately retract and tighten during a collision in the back as they all do in the front. That's where anyone needs to start, regardless of manufacturer.

@@christina2975 Less movement than the Explorer, which was rated Good. Appears that too little movement may actually cause more neck injury.
@Normalmark1_
@Normalmark1_ Год назад
According to the official ratings of this test, the rear passenger dummy's lap belt remained in the ideal position on the pelvis.(probably because of the anti-submarining seat) And it might gets worse than just lap belt sliding here. the main problem here was that “The chest forces and the likely risk of head, or neck injury”, Which was probably the result of the lack of the Seatbelt safety equipments. Like seatbelt pretensioners, which can make you move back to the desired position in collision, and from my perspective, it seems to be able to make seatbelt shock absorbing function act more effectively if equipped.(In this case, this one doesn’t seem to have both) To sum : it seems your lower half'gonna be fine, too bad your upper part ain’t gonna🫡
