I too had a transformative year photo gear wise. Early 2022 I lost my job and completely purged my film camera collection. I was bulk loading, processing, and scanning ECN2 film and it just took too much of my time and money. Decided to consolidate everything to a beater M262 I got for a steal and user grade 50mm cron. Never thought I’d go full digital but now I can’t imagine going back to film even with my financial situation back on track. Though, I still have my Nikon CoolScan collecting dust in the closet as I’ve convinced myself I’ll get a Rolleiflex one day 😂 Happy new years Matt!!
oh this is interesting. i was posting to say a very similar thing. have moved from film back to digital with vintage lenses in the name of simplification.
In short. Came into some money and bought a Q2. Realised within one weekend that it wasn’t for me. Sold my Fuji system and the Q2 and gave up. Realised I missed 6 months of life documents and bought an XT-5 with a stock prime. Now carrying that sucker with me every minute I can. Love your content Matt. All the best for 2023.
I think one of the most important things I've learned is to live in the moment. This can be hard but I believe it's one of the most important and powerful perspectives we can have in life. We are often robbing ourselves of everything we have because we are too caught up in the future or the past. Think now. Live now. It's not easy but try harder. Matt, I am new to your channel. I love it! But it’s your way of speaking, what you speak about and your wisdom, that draws me back and really helps me in my own issues and struggles just now. Great video and thoughts! This year, I'm looking to only shoot bnw when I'm out and about. I was diagnosed with adhd and an anxiety disorder 2.5 years ago and through trial/error have discovered I NEED to get outside... often. Cold, rain, don't matter... the outdoors have been a gift for my mental health! I'm learning that it's OKAY to stop working and leave things unfinished until the next day... to my surprise, the world hasn't stopped turning. 🤣
2022 has been a year that I have decided to engage more with people and other creatives and I plan to continue that trend in 2023. Thanks for the x100v after this purchase I do not plan on buying another camera in 2023. Orville Peck is fire I only listen because I heard you mention him on the channel and about to buy Baldwin Lee’s book. Look forward to seeing what you put out in 2023 take care Matt.

Towards the end of 2022, I wanted to reignite my fire for photography I used to have decades ago. Came across your channel. I love your honesty, the values you hold about photography, gears, personal project, documenting life, and so on. You are genuine in your own way and I'm glad I came across your channel. I wish you good health, and looking forward to watch, and probably connect with you in 2023. We'll see where photography will take me in 2023. The downside of your channel is, now I want a Leica M4 😂
I can't fathom this weird idea that you have to pick one format over another. You can shoot both film AND digital. I usually have my Fuji digital and my film camera on me at the same time when on photo walks.
Love your year in review and introspective reflections. There are many good RU-vidrs out there, many of them bringing some interesting element, but no one has the authenticity and down to earth style you have. I definitely need to print more! Man, I could not agree with you more on getting to a stage in your life where the film “experience” becomes a burden. I’ve been wrestling with that same thought process all year long and realized with my lifestyle + kids that film is beginning to create more anxiety than enjoyment for me (most of the time). Moving towards some digital options in 2023, personally. Staying nimble.

Hello Matt and viewers! I loved the video, and wish y'all very peaceful and chill christmas time. Now, there is one thing that's keeping me up at night-I remember in one of the videos, Matt showed a book/zine by his friend (almost sure), full of very grainy photos (presumably because it was done on a half frame camera), it was a pretty big format. If anyone has a hint or an idea of which book or video it was, i am BEGGING you, please, let me know! I've had this PDF saved in my browser but I've lost it somehow, and it had a big influence on me.
