The price is the real problem. The base iPad is now not an affordable option and too close to other iPads that are better value for money. $400 for a 128GB option would have allowed the base iPad to be viewed much more positively. The situation with the pencil is definitely a Homer Simpson 'D'oh!' moment for Apple, however.
@@zalan8 in Spain it’s 579 and in Portugal is €599. Yes, it’s absurd. In Spain you can get an iPad Pro 2018 64 GB Wi-Fi refurbished for €489 in apple’s website, but it’s sold out right now in that config.
You do know the first few ipad that came out were $500 right? So this costing $450 shouldnt be a surprise. When ppl think everything has to be budgeted…
You can get great deals on the iPad 9, much lower than Apple Store prices. You must be aware that Apple never discounts on their Store, and to get deals you go to Amazon and other resellers. Comments like yours are misleading as they are not telling the whole story.
@@ahaimes6320 exactly… My currency is real (🇧🇷) and I bought a brand new 256gb IPad 9th gen for around 342 US dollars on a local (but not oficial retailer) store!!
Very true, I have been using the basic iPad models since the 4th generation. I always buy the version with the max RAM and the data cell option and then, just let the fun begin (smile…smile).
Bought the iPad 9 last year and still works as it should for mostly drawing in procreate and gaming with wired headset (CODM, PUBG Mobile)... I'd still choose the 9 if I hadn't bought one since iPad 10 still has a non-laminated display and 9 is way cheaper.. If I had higher budget, I'd go for iPad Air 4 or even the iPad M1 11'.
Same I got the iPad 9 last year for Christmas and I was thinking about getting the 10 this year but honestly I seen so many videos on it’s not that big of a upgrade I think I’ll just wait five years for the biggest upgrade
@@leahbee2776 Sure you don't have to buy this 10th generation iPad in replacement of your 9th gen... If you are okay with that old design and lightning port connectivity (but lightning is better for Apple pencil 1st gen) 😑
I upgraded from IPad 7 to M1 11inch. Best upgrade ever. I would just keep your iPad until you notice performance is not as smooth. I do not think I will need to upgrade for a very long time. It’s worth the price imo upgrading from iPad 9 to 10 or even next years model will not be worth it.
All i can say is that iPad 9th Gen packs BIG Value for the price! A13 still punches big time, 3.5mm jack and at 64gb base my brand new iPad 9 is my fresh baby!
hello, how much storage did you choose?, I'm picking between ipad air 4 256gb and ipad air 5 64gb, what is your opinion about choosing ipad air 5 64gb for college
bro i have 256 gb for my studying after about 9 months just took 8Gb for good notes. if you are not adding applications yes it's enough but if you use alot applications and games i don't recommend 64gb.
non-laminated screen actually makes some sense in this "base" iPad. It makes the repairs MUCH cheaper and easier than a laminated screen. For the target demographic of this device, I think it is a worthy trade off
I don’t mind the non laminated display. What I do mind is Apple spending resources to break compatibility with every existing accessory on this iPad, just to sell you a new keyboard and to make the pencil so annoying to use that you would rather spend more on an Air. This iPad is anti-consumer and not environmentally conscious in the slightest for a company that likes to boast about their green initiatives.
I was gifted the 10th Gen with 256 gb and I love it for what I use it for. My last iPAD was the 9.7 Pro. I had it for 5 years and it worked perfectly but now needs a battery. Overall, what I use the iPad for, the new one meets my needs.
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This ru-vid.comUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
I'm absolutely lucky to still get the 9th Gen iPad as a Christmas Present in December 2021, since I would be VERY DISAPPOINTED if I wanted the 10th Gen iPad, since I like the older design better for most reasons. I still like the physical home button and I still like that they kept the headphone jack on the iPad 9. But I got to admit, it has got to be, ONE OF THE VERY LAST IPADS with this design, that has impressive performance, specs and internals shared with the more expensive models of iPad.
The 9th gen shares nothing with the more expensive models without the software (and even there are differences)… So it’s true that it is a solid device, it’s even more powerfull then the fastest android tablet but it’s a completely own device and has nothing to do with any other iPad… The 9th gen has a A13 with 3GB of RAM, it’s the only iPad with this combination and with that it shares no internals with any other iPad overall… The performance of this is not comparable with any other iPad too, the processing and graphics power is uniq in the apple eco system… It’s somewhere between iPad Pro 11“ first and second gen in processing power but both devices are way better in graphics and both have twice the RAM (first gen only with the 1TB model, the other have 4GB)… But how I said, that change nothing to that that it is a very good device for the next couple of years but every pro since the pro 10,5 is at least slightly better overall cause in the 10,5 you get laminated display, better colors, 1GB more RAM and 4 speaker setup… The iPad 9 has just a bit more processing power but graphics are more or less the same and nearly everything else is on same level or better on the old pro… Plus, the old pro shares the exact same accessories with the iPad 9, so if i had the choice between 9th gen and pro 10,5“ i think I would go with the old pro…
@@Minefroz that’s not the point, when he say it shares internals with the pro models some people could understand that that he gets same power like on the pros but this is by far not the case… Yes it’s even faster then the fastest android tablets but the pro models top this drasticly… The newest pros have 1 2/3 times more single core speed, double multi core speed, 2 2/3 or 5 1/3 times more RAM and over 4 times graphic power… That’s not only a small gap… And again, that should not sound so that the iPad 9 is bad, in no way but it’s not even close to the pro models… The only other iPad in this league is the iPad Air 5 with the m1 chipset but all other iPads (7,8,9,10, mini 5,6, Air 3,4, pro 9.7“, 10.5“ and 12.9“ 1. and 2. gen) are a good step under this performance and all of that have still a great performance for the next couple of years…
I’m so glad I’m here with my iPad 8th gen. Works like a charm (and it feels faster after iPadOS 16, it’s definitely a lot less buggy for me) and the smart keyboard and apple pencil make for a really nice experience.
I wound a glitch on the new IPAD OS16 one of my apps is closing crashing and there’s no updates on the app so yeah I got an older iPad and on that one the app is fine no difference I tried everything you can posible say but it all goes to the new iOS messing up . Again it might be only my iPad but idk Rick 😅hopefully apple fixes the issues .
Went in to the Apple Store yesterday to check the 10th gen out to upgrade out of my 7th gen which worked perfect still.. thought hey new design but man when I saw the air 5.. it was worth the $129 extra.. big difference in screen quality
IPad Air is way better than this garbage 1. IPad Air has laminated screen 2. Better uncapped A14 processor 3. Apple pencil 2 support 4. USB 3.0 type c port 5. Much cheaper nowadays Only buy iPad 10 if you 1. Only buy new products 2. Horizontal front camera
HERES THE DEAL….For 99 percent of people the ninth gen is absolutely perfect. There really is no difference between the two. If your worried about bezels and a home button and minor stuff then your over thinking everything. My iPad 9 at 269.99 is one of the best purchases for price I’ve ever made! I have a screen protector on mine and the display is still great. This thing plays games FAST. LOADS EVERYTHING FAST. You can have 20 apps open at the same time and it will NOT lag! People have no clue, they just see a new model and assume it’s way better at everything, it’s not. iPad ninth gen is an awesome tablet!!!!
@@rommelflores2618 it's awesome. And the price is unbeatable. A lot of people are using androids and are just scared to use ipadOS. I WAS TOO. Now, I'll never by another android tablet again.
Also, they now sell for about 220. Ive since upgraded to the Air 5 only because I sold my 9th gen for 250 bucks and bought the air 5 for 399 plus tax brand new. The air 5 is definetly the best bang for your bucks right now. The display is larger and the M1 chip is super quick. I also just bought an M2 iPad Pro for 400! Istill got 512 GB WiFi plus cellular.
4:38 This is actually an improvement than laminated displays in terms of repair costs. It's cheaper to repair just the top glass than the entire display.
Yes, I am a bit shocked that a techie on YT that proclaims to know more than the combined weight of Apple's iPad team, does not realise that the market the base iPad is targeted at MUST have non-laminated displays for cheaper repair. This is quite worrying that YT influencers are spreading misinformation for the sake of clicks.
That's the perfect iPad for me the 10th gen. Keep in mind not all the people change their devices year to year. The last iPad I bought was an iPad Air 2 in 2014. And I'm still writing this comment on it, because my main purpose of it's existence was watching RU-vid and Netflix. Sometimes some web browsing and professionally I used it for Teams calls and also for apps for live sound mixing consoles like A&H dLive or SQ. I did not need anything else, and I would continue to use it if the battery would not become unreliable. My brother bought an iPad Air with the M2 chip and I loved it but could not justify the price on such low usage and since I know I won't use the Apple Pencil at all the 10th gen is perfect for my upgrade as it looks the same as the Air (which I love the look over the 9th gen by ba huge mile) and the camera in the middle is a big deal for me for the Teams meetings as I will look more naturally. So yeah I do get it in the year by year comparison it's a weird device, but for me it just ticks every single thing for a lower price than the Air. Keep in mind I used the 2014 till now with no issues for my usage so even if I get 6 years out of the 10th gen that's ok for me. So IMO there is a market for this product. I know I will enjoy it! Peace!
It is 11/4/2023 and the 9G iPad is on sale at Walmart, Target and Amazon for ~$249 (an early Black Friday 2023 Deal? ), I picked one up from Walmart for
Him: They're still using the apple pencil from 2015! The display hasn't upgraded! You need an adapter! Camera on the iPad 9 is pretty poor. 41.25Mb transfer speed! etc. Me with an iPad 3G: ... Nope, not upgrading yet.
I think what Apple did was use the chipset from the lightning port on the previous generation which is USB 2.0 and they just changed the port on the end instead of actually including a USB 3 port to save cost. They know most people who will buy them will never connect anything to it.
That new design... *perfection* But yeah, the iPad 10's speakers sounded just a little bit 'muted' compared to the iPad 9 as you said, but it does actually sound a bit better than that of the iPad 9 the more I listen to it.
Biggest problem ipad 10th gen is price increase, if they would kept cost around $350 with $99 keyboard case, and still had these issues it would have been different story but for $130 price increase an having these issues are ridiculous an $250 keyboard case for base ipad is insane!
The 9th gen Apple iPad was nearly perfect at $329 (sometimes as low as $269 at Amazon). It was probably the Apple product with the most bang for your buck. I'm glad it's not discontinued (yet), but the 10th gen is for almost no one. It's too expensive for an entry-level tablet and under-powered for more than casual use.
Every musician and actor I know owns one. The screen could be larger, but having it all in your hand in one place versus paper scores and scripts and pens (versus just drawing changes and notes on the PDF directly)... But at $450? It's suddenly a luxury item again versus a cheap tool. That's a 50% ( FIFTY PERCENT! ) increase in street price for what? If it was maybe a 2K display or had 256GB standard or or or... but this almost feels like usury. Pay your Apple Tax, peasant!
@@Hehehe-hf7rq My point exactly. All the 9s were gobbled up already because of the large price increase. At $300, yes, it's way better than the extra money on an iPad air. At $450... excuse me while a laugh a bit... :)
Both are fine options… all depends how much you want to spend… still using the iPad 7… has been a great device! Ask yourself, who sits there looking at a gap somewhere on the edge of the screen?? Nobody except the reviewer…
Great quick review. Nice steps forward with the design, cameras and speakers, but no real steps forward with the internals or display, two big disappointments (Pencil support and USB 2 speeds). Doesn't exactly scream value, does it?
no but i dont think it was suppose to be. it was meant for those that just wanted a better display. like my grandparents. don't use pen and steam everything so the 64gb not a big deal to them
@@takoflame4948 Hold on. The display is ever-so-slightly bigger - 0.7" diagonally, which is just 3.3% wider and 3.3% taller. That's better in an absolute sense, but certainly no reason to upgrade. Especially since pixel density, brightness, and the underlying display technologies (IPS, True Tone, non-laminated, etc.) are identical between 9th and 10th gen devices, so contrast, color accuracy, "depth", etc. are all going to feel more or less identical. It seems to me the "value" in the 10th gen is more about the A14 vs. A13 chipsets (which probably isn't that noticeable for many use cases), the better cameras (esp. the better placed front camera), and the fresh colors. That said, it still seems to me that someone looking for the best deal on an iPad ought to go for the 9th gen or for the M1-equipped Air. The 10th gen iPad seems to be caught out in the middle, IMO. YMMV.
I have used 9th Gen iPad for PUBG until it crack by falling and now purchased M1 iPad pro but holding the pro is for gaming in painful with that flat corner... So is iPad 10... Still prefer iPad 9 for that curved corners.
I got one too, on last Tuesday a 9th generation basic iPad model fully loaded with max RAM and the data cell option. Ordered mine off of Apple’s Veteran web site and saved 10 percent (smile…smile).
Hands down I must say that you have the best product review that I have ever seen. After vacillating whether to get the new 10th generation or the 9th generation for my son, I'm definitely getting the 9th, which I think will work well for him for several years. All the reviews that I have seen on the new 10th are about the same, not worth the monies! Thanks, you have a new subscriber.
Good video as usual. Think your slide for the Metal GPI is misleading. The 7,324 vs 12,668 should be poles apart but on the bar chart the two bars look to be maybe only 15% different. Not a major issue but nice to see the visuals correctly so don't need to focus on the numbers so much.
Can I give you general feedback for your videos? Try to talk normally without the over energetic tone. Talk to us like you normally would with a friend. It would feel warmer, more authentic and relatable. You have solid content. I sometimes feel the delivery could be better.
I’ve never owned an iPad. If I were to purchase one it would most likely be the newer model. I would only use it to watch movies while out on the road. Then again my phone already does that so….
Getting myself the iPad 9 for my birthday. I have a 2021 MacBook that usually stays in my desk and need something I can take around to the kitchen, living room and bed since my phone isn’t the best at watching content. Even if I had the money, there’s not much difference with the iPad 10 or even air
If it was a direct replacement for the iPad 9 I.e. the same price or a modest increase, a lot of the weirdness would be easy to forgive. But when the iPad 9 still exists, the iPad Air 4 and 5 still exist, and more importantly the refurb and used market can get you a better iPad for similar prices, it doesn’t make sense for almost anyone to buy this
i would just go with the ipad 9 at the low price bracket. i had bought the ipad mini 6 before ipados 16 was announced and am unhappy that it doesn't have stage manager. i think the best ipad to get right now is the ipad air 5 with a cheaper logitech keyboard case.
After seeing this video i‘am so glad that I bought my iPad 9th Gen in April. I got it for about 330€ with 256gb and I use it primarily for writing in university. Personally If i would want to upgrade now, i would rather look at a 4th gen iPad Air or go directly to the M1 iPad Pro.
Год назад
was it refurbished? because 330€ for 256gb is quite weird
I will continue to see this on every video in which I see it come up on. Use the old adapter that comes in the box. Plus a lightning to USB-C cable and plug it in that way. The old female lightning to female, lightning adapter that came with the original Apple pencils, I don’t see why I wouldn’t work.
The iPad 9 is definitely a good value when it can be had for under $300 (sometimes well under $300). Then add the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard for under $150. iPad 10 at full retail is not a good value at all, and the Apple keyboard adds $250. The price difference (
I agree. That’s what I have : Ipad 9 + Logitech Combo keyboard. It can still do 90-95% of what any pricier iPad can achieve; besides, all these iPads only have 64gb of storage, so they probably won’t last as many years as we would like. Then it makes sense to spend less, and maybe upgrade in 3 years when base-model devices will have 128gb storage.
I got the 9th gen with the folio detatchable keyboard and pencil all for just about $500 and works like a charm and its nice for when i dont want to carry my macbook around but for the price it was very afforable for apple
I waited for this new iPad 10th gen, but as soon as I saw the specs and the price i was disappointed and quickly ordered the 9th gen for $180 less than the 10th gen. The 10th generation iPad was a super disappointment for me. Not worth $450 👎
You have an lightning to lightning female adapter in the apple pencil box. Then you can use an lightning to usc c cable (the one you get with airpods or iPhones) to charge the pencil with the iPad or you can charge it with a normal charging adapter.
I was waiting for the announcement of the 10 before I made a purchase. For me, as an artist, I went for the 9 and bought it at Walmart for $299 plus the pencil. The value just wasn't there for me to purchase the 10.
I was also waiting for the announcement of the 10th gen . Wanted to grab the $400 256gb version last week but they increased the price after the announcement
I’m so disappointed by this new model. It’s like almost perfectly made for my use case, but the price increase kills it. I rarely use the Apple Pencil, and I don’t know why i even own one, so the issues with that aren’t a problem for me. I mainly use it in landscape as a netbook replacement, so the speaker upgrades are appreciated. The only problem for me is the price. I can’t justify spending that much on a toy when the price is that close to the air which is so much better.
@@thetechrealist It’s an important topic to me, I use my iPad a lot and frequently need to charge it and my 6th gen only charges at 10/11W, even with a 20W one and a USB-C cable. Because it’s capped.
Just me but I would only buy a :refurbished/ renewed iPad/iPhone from Apple. Even in Amazon's own listing they state that the products are not guaranteed to be waterproof.
@@AzVfL yep you need new headphones at this point i dont like wireless cause everytime you need to worry about charging your phone as well as this thing
Could you please advise further on what I should use to transfer file/documents from iPad to external hard drive? Does the normal hard working? Without causing damage/lost data in iPad or iPhone
They probably kept non laminated display because it's a cheaper repair. Its original target audience: students and people on a budget. They also don't want to cannibalize the iPad Air and the mini iPad market . About that price: get ready for price hikes against across the product line. Most people upgrading their iPad will probably be happy enough with the $329 USD model still on the Apple web site. Most people buying iPads don't replace them every year.
People who want the non laminated display and are "really" on a budget will just get the 9. Price is too close to the air 4&5 or refurb pro models to get the 10.
I have a 2014 iPad with 2 GB RAM and it is bafflimg to me that the iPad 9 still only has 3 GB, because I find 2 GB woefully inadequate. I’m hesistant to even get a 4 GB pad.
I understand but iPad utilise their ram to the best of their ability and they are so well optimized they could run better than some tablets with 8gb ram.
More and more I am thinking the iPad 10 is great to use as a tablet. Doing anymore, such as the keyboard or pencil, just isn’t worth it. Most people that want more than a tablet need to move up to the iPad Air 5 or get an iPad Air 4. For me the iPad 10 would be a great upgrade for my iPad 8. I only use them as tablets nothing else.
I was holding out on upgrading from a 6th gen as I was waiting for the iPad 10 as we were expecting a massive update. I ended up getting the 9th Gen the day after the 10th was announced as it was £200.00 cheaper for the tablet alone and tbh I prefer the older design. The bezels are what makes it easier to hold the tablet in the hand. I think Apple are going to have a hard time selling the 10th Gen given the iPad 9 and iPad Air are still around and offers a better deal for their respective prices. I think Apple may have a reshuffle of the iPad lineup next year and these tablets may disappear as options.
I had the same file transfer experience with the current iPad Mini. Absolutely unacceptable. A useless USB C connector. Often it wouldn't even give me any indication of the copy/paste progress, it would just freeze and the file would suddenly appear when done.
I'm also thinking about getting an iPad for myself because I enjoy perusing the web, viewing movies, and playing the occasional game on them. Not included is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Yet, because you can now buy the 9th generation for cheaper, the price difference is harder to justify. Everyone maintains that the 9th generation is still worth buying despite the identical specifications and the few shared features. Second generation Apple Pencil not supported on 10th generation devices, and you need to purchase an additional adapter? That's absurd.
