it was quite a challenge for sure, but to be honest it was nothing compared to what you will see me going thru in a couple weeks...lol I have a 4 part series coming out in a couple weeks of a ride my brother and I just did together getting all the videos edited and ready to go now so they will come out on time, you know with these kind of videos, I have to do the ride and get's lot's of videos, then It takes a bout a week or two for me to get them all edited together to be able to show everything and if I put it all into one video that videos would be hours long so I have to segment it into three or four parts.

Depends on the single tracks near you. My single tracks are in the prairie, so it's more like a really narrow dirt track. Still a lot for me as a new rider but no where near as technical as what KLR650 is doing. Look into what is available near you might actually find some fun and easy practice places.

Been basically in the same boat as you in this video however it was a 500+ pound BMW R1200GS. I'm sure I may have taught people some new words that day. But I very quickly learned that this ADV bike doesn't do what my Honda XR600 does and I learned that my XR600 didn't do what my KX250 did. But somewhere in all the attempts and fails and successes you will find what style of riding you like and you will settle in on the right bike. Go with what you like to ride and what gets the job done. Singletrack in my younger days. Then came 50/50 dual sport stuff. Now it's ADV moto camping. I tend to ride nice wide forest roads here in Colorado now if I wanna go off road. And your right the bike is way more capable than the rider. But well done! Very well done. Theres always another day to attempt the climb again. This time invite your brother and his buddy. LOL

So freaking lucky you caught that tree. You made it up and down, pretty cool, lots of good techniques you used. I recommend changing the handlebars out, this was as transformative as changing the foot pegs. You wouldn't think it but it really changed my control and comfort with steering the bike. I went with the protaper but I know others went with the tusk chub, just a little narrower and a better sweep back.

I am 5'10" and I feel like my arms and legs are a little short. So the shorter length handlebar with an increased height really put me in a more comfortable position. They are also a couple of inches shorter making the bike a little narrower. I used the tusk d flex and used a hammer to give them a little more bend to fit my setup perfectly. It was the cheapest option being $60 cheaper than bark buster.

Glad you made it out of there. Recording this REALLY gives you the opportunity to see your mistakes and correct them I'd like to think. Like when you almost fell down the hill getting the bike stuck on the tree. You were going pretty fast for the conditions and I'm not sure why, but it looks like you were closer to the left drop off than the right side. I'm definitely learning from these videos and while I'm younger and stronger, I don't even think I'd take these roads solo lol. You've got brass ones, that's for sure!!

You may be younger but I wouldn't know about stronger because I've never met you....lol. I have a friend that is 35 that works out all the time and has a hard time picking up this bike. It's not really that heavy to me but I did have to pick it up 5 times on one trail and it wore me out ..lol

best thing I can say is that you want to ask them at the dealership if they will lay it down for you and let you pick it up to make sure you can, then remember when you are riding off road, you are getting a hell of a work out and if you drop it then it will feel 4 times heavier than it actually is because your arms will already be tired.

'22 KLR base model in LAVA ORANGE, bought it new last year. I've done trails but no single track...yet :) Good job getting outa that situation. Others have mentioned it; after market bars. I got a set of tusk (not the chub) and got rid of the bar end weights. Only gained two inches of clearance on each side but makes a difference. I also added risers (tusk 30mm). I'm average size (5'8") but they really helped with comfort and control while doing the next thing I'll recommend...STAND UP! Standing while off road greatly increases your control over the bike. I didn't believe it either until I did it. I spent 20 years riding black top on a big cruiser before the KLR Huge difference. Watch some videos from Bret Tkacs and MOTOTREK both here on RU-vid. Great tips. PS: I love those Double Take Mirrors, Dropped SEVERAL times and just push them back in place. Oh and real hand guards are a must.

I am starting to get more comfortable standing but you have to get used to steering more with your feet than with your arms and that is going to take some practice for sure, the only time I ever stood up on a dirt bike ripping off road in the dirt, (never did single track or motocross) was if I was hill climbing and then standing really came in to play to either keep the front wheel on the ground or get traction on the rear by shifting my weight back more, but never stood much on my dirt bike.

definetely a lot of determination in this video, but I cant help but think you caused a lot of your own problems here. After watching all 3 of your videos, I have some suggestions. I have been riding a KLR650 on adventure rides for 15 years now. First, get some good gear. You need some good riding pants and ADV boots. Second, proper tires and inflation are paramount for adventure riding on a KLR. I suggest the Adventure line from Motoz, Specifically the Dual Venture front and Rallz rear. The stock KLR tires are terrible for any real adventure riding as you found out. Air them down to the mid 20's psi will maximize your off road traction. Just my $.02, hope this helps.
@mymotorcyclelifestyle
@mymotorcyclelifestyle 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the advice. I have made a lot of changes since these videos so you will see that I have improved in other videos. by the way I run my tires at 21 PSI and you are right the stock tires suck for real, especially when the surface dirt get's a little wet and just get's slick like what was happening in this video, and I was not very confident riding since I was not used to single track and didn't like being on the side of a cliff...lol

I’m going to give you a helpful hint. The reason your bike hero’s going to the edge of the trail is because you keep looking at the edge. Also keeping your feet off the pegs is creating more problems for you. It throws off your balance. Not trying to be a know it all but it’s a fact. Watch a motorman video on RU-vid same applies on the street or dirt.
@mymotorcyclelifestyle
@mymotorcyclelifestyle 4 месяца назад
I agree 100% I made a lot of mistakes because I haven't ridden in the dirt in a very long time, I most likely would have done a lot better on a dirt bike, because I used to ride, but like I said it's been a very long time. Been riding street for 38 years and can ride with the best of them and out ride a lot of them, but I really should have found some easier trails to start on to get back some of the memory or dirt riding before attempting this hard of a trail.

I don't think I let out to much air, I just didn't have my balance down right, I know you go where you look and for some reason I couldn't quit looking at the edge, I should have just been looking further down the trail instead. 7:39 Jeans? That’s...ballsy? I’d suggest at least some cheap G-form knee pads and maybe a second pair as shin pads. They are soft and flexible, but harden up on impact. Best yet is some Klim or Fox riding pants, with integrated armor. For your hip, I’s suggest some Troy Lee Design or Fox slide shorts; you can wear them comfortably under jeans, and they protect hip, thighs, and tailbone. Fairly cool even in summer.
