Feedback: suggest you include shots of the bike itself, how you sit on it, your riding position, what you do to carry light loads (e.g. school backpack), how you lock it (steering lock alone or with other locks/alarm). You know - stuff that beginners would be interested in. Seeing just the road in the entire video is not appealing.

Appreciate the feedback. I do have another video where I sit on it and show riding position for my height. But those are good suggestions!

Using the rear brake in corners is not trail braking. It's trailing the rear brake sure, but trail braking is in essence, "trailing off" the front brake til you reach the mid point of the corner. It's that the idea that there are very few situations where just releasing the front brake cold turkey is optimal for suspension, weight transfer and chassis stability. Instead, to avoid upsetting chassis, weight distribution and suspension, as well as to avoid "coasting" in the corner where too much speed is washed off too soon (leading to uneven control inputs) you do probably eighty percent of braking before you enter the corner proper, then gradually trail the front brake off til that last twenty percent of speed is washed away so that you reach the optimal speed for the apex in a smooth, incremental way. In essence you are releasing the brake in a smooth way that ensures you reach optimal speed for negotiating the apex at the exact moment that you reach the apex. It also maintains a shorter wheel base by keeping the front suspension partially compressed which maintains a sharper steering geometry until the moment that you reach the apex, by which point the remaining suspension compression has been smoothly released which lets the bike flow back out toward the outside of the corner. Stability comes from smooth inputs whether rolling on throttle or "rolling off" brakes. It's probably a good way to think about braking in the same way that you think about smooth throttle application, Smooth braking is like smooth throttle application, it's a kind of "rolling on or rolling off". Apologies for the essay, but I'm astounded by the common lack of understanding of what trail braking is and isn't and the concept behind it.

No low or mid range power is typical of smaller twins. They excel on the high end. Why I prefer a single when it comes to smaller bikes as they make power in the low and mid range. For my style of riding on mountain roads with a lot of turns that low and midrange pays off. The 400 Kaws are dogs from a dig. I've ran a few on my little 390 Duke and it wasn't close.

@@autonomis1 they all have their pros and cons. For my style of riding the single on the Duke makes more sense. I've had it in the triple digits but not where it shines. The 400 Kaw is a better bike for top end.

I'm curious why you chose the Z400 over the Ninja 400. I need to ride both to see which one I prefer. I'm a new rider to sport bikes. 🏍 I've ridden mostly dual sport bikes off road on trails. That way people distracted by their phones couldn't take me out. Street riding will be a whole new experience for me.
@autonomis1
@autonomis1 Год назад
Main thing was the more relaxed seating position. I didn’t want to be crouched over the whole time while I was riding. Other than that the styling is a bit different and I think the insurance is a bit cheaper

I am coming from the dual sport world as well, last week I sat on the z400 z650 ninja 650 ninja 650r and ninja 400. The z series I feel.is slightly more upright then the ninja not by much though the ninja r is track setup so you lay over the tank. Real difference I noticed other them the fairings and looks is where the weight is with z650 I could feel the weight more up top in the bike the ninja felt more middle in the middle but the z400 was just super easy to toss around very light feeling reminded me of a dual sport but much more street oriented.

That was my decision to make too. I ended up finding a deal on a 2022 Z400 and I really enjoy it. I don't believe you could really go wrong with either bike, but I definitely enjoy the Z400. Having that extra little bit of power is great as you get more practice with the bike, and at higher speeds. The extra little bit of power can be slightly more intimidating as a beginner, but as long as you stay disciplined with the throttle while you learn, you'll be fine. The mt 03 does sit a little more cramped in the legs, so if you're taller than 6'2"-6'3" you might wanna lean towards the Z400. If you're taller than 6'4"-6'5" you're probably gonna be a little cramped on that one too. Both bikes have a pretty upright and easy seating position. Both of them keep your legs pretty well straight beneath you. They're both super easy to throw around and weave through traffic. It doesn't feel like there's any weight to either of them. Long story short, it comes down to spacing, any performance differences, and any other personal preference you have. They're both well built bikes at a very comparable price point

Suncrest is always a nice quick fun mountain to ride. I really like doing big cottonwood to guardsmen pass into Heber and then down Provo canyon and the over alpine loop and then you can take Suncrest from the Lehi side. The ride will take a few hours but it's a lot of fun.

Nice job and scenic ride. There's a '19 near me with 5k miles on it that I'm considering. Do you find the high rpm nature of this bike tiring or whiny? Other option is the Honda 500F, similar power but more useable torque. Thanks for any input

Uphill in 4th gear at 7000 rpm? Not a highway bike. You downshift in a headwind too. My SV650, in 6 gear at 5000 rpm rides like there are no hills or wind. It's probably a great street bike.
