These are great cars. Absolutely impressed with these K5s in all trim levels. If you took the Kia badging off, there would be many more journalist drooling over these. . Features on this would have cost you 50 grand plus on a Mercedes just five years ago. These K5s are just playful and have lots of personality.

Got it and boy am I impressed. The tech is amazing! The cruise control and lane assist combo actually worked like a minor self driving setting. My hands were on the wheel and it kept true to my lane in ways that were almost spooky. I only had to self correct once when the car hit some really bad and bumpy road conditions (PA roads are $hit). Truly an incredible car.

Just put a deposit on a GT-line AWD after striking out with a dozen other dealers within 200 miles of my location. The final inquiry at a dealer over 100 miles way gave me hope as he had one that just unloaded from the car hauler 45 minutes earlier. I grabbed the wife and high tailed it right after the salesman said they stopped taking deposits over the phone. 90 minutes later and we were able to sit in a white one with all the protective material on it. As we sat in the car, another couple walked around the us with some serious interest. Told my salesman that I'd buy it. Found out a few minutes later (when we were in the showroom signing a deposit agreement) that that other couple was very disappointed and left empty handed. Long story short. Because of the microchip shortages, any high demand vehicle arriving at a dealership for the foreseeable future will either be spoken for already or be sold with hours of touching the pavement. And because market analysts are now saying the "chip" shortages will last into 2023, these crazy market conditions will not be ending anytime soon. And just as a disclaimer, I had to agree to pay a $995 as a market adjustment fee to secure the vehicle. Considering that all the other dealers I was in contact with mentioned market adjustments of $3-5k on AWD models, I felt the $995 was a bargain. Tellurides in most of Southeast Michigan are priced $5-10k over invoice, even before they reach the dealers' lots. Crazy times we're living in.
Congrats on your new K5! I had a similar situation, dont know where you are, but I'm in Southern California. Decided that I wanted the K5 GT LINE with premium package in passion red. No dealer near me had the car in red, other colors were available, but I was told the red and wolf gray sell very quickly. After a couple weeks waiting for someone to call and tell me a red one with the premium package had come in, I found a dealer about 40 miles from me advertising they just got one in, with photos. I called them and said I would be there at 9 am. I arrived, checked it out, perfect. Bought it on the spot. This was last May. They told me, and I believe them, they had 2 people the day before that definitely wanted it, but held it for me as I was the 1st to call on it. I'm lucky I bought when I did, there was no mark up on the car..that definitely Sucks.
@@johnfranklin5277 Yes, they are in much higher demand now... especially the AWD variant. No one in my area is selling them at MSRP. I was luck to only pay $995. I took delivery of it about 4 hours ago. Great car...BTW. Salesman said they are raising the market adjustment to $2k next week. It's rediculous what's going on now. On a side note, if someone is in the market for a new Rio, dealers have more than a few of those on hand. My dealer had 6. And no markup. But it ain't no K5.
@@christopherm1904 2000 dollar mark up?? OUCH. Well see how many people are willing to pay that much over msrp..at a certain point, they will price themselves out, and buyers will back off. When that happens, they will have to rethink that . Funny, used to be 1500 2000 dollar rebates, now its 2000 dollars extra just to be allowed to buy one!! Congratulations! You were very fortunate. Here in the Nashville, TN area, the KIA dealerships have a $20K markup (Yes $20K) on the Tellurides they have in stock. Even a base Kia Soul is over $5K markup.
@@stevengolden9009 Holy price gouging Batman! There should be laws against that. $5k extra on a Soul?!?!. Tons of desperation and impatience in the new car market. Wait a couple of years when these over-priced vehicles are resold and market conditions are reversed. Sticker shock when the "negative equity" hits their pocket books.
The Kia K5 is a very good car. Way better than the Toyota Camry EX. I rented a K5 for a week. Performance gas mileage was excellant. I also rented a Camry EX. Performance and gas mileage was not as good as the Kia K5. The K5 was very good. Definetly get alot more for your money than the Toyota.
The thing that amazed me the most about the K5 is the legroom. I'm 6'3" and I had to pull the seat up a inch or so (there was too much legroom!). That never happens. Plus the seat cushions were really long so I had plenty of thigh support. I ended up getting a Subaru Legacy Touring XT, but the K5 was a very close second and if the dealer had an AWD when I was looking I would have gotten it.
I do love my k5. It's quite a zippy little car. I am impressed with the turbo, so impressed, I added a little touch of my own to it. I picked up turbo badging for the front fenders (where the factory should have added) man it looks cool. For a previously known as a disposable car I give it a 9 out of 10. Only because I think nits a little to light and the don't end scrapes in my driveway.
got this as rental and i was so surprised! looked very nice inside. acceleration was fast! i felt i could pass any car in no time flat..(almost got me in trouble passing a row of rvs on a 2lane!) i had over 40 mpg highway! sounds good too especially in sport mode.
@@enforceOM You're right it's only the GT in Canada that has the digital gauge cluster. U.S. still does not have it on any of their K5 models. At least the Sorento has it but you have to get an SX trim :(

I've been a proud owner of the Kia K5 GT-Line AWD sedan for almost a year. But let me tell y'all. Save yourself the money and don't bother with opting for the premium package that comes with the autostart. 1.) When you use the autostart, there is no visual indication that the car actually started (beyond a quick flash of the DRL - if you happen to catch it and even then there's no guarantee that it actually started because it's very finicky.) 2.) The car will only run for exactly 10 minutes and at a maximum temp of just 72F. There is no way to change this. Obviously those of us who live in Northern, wintry climates know that this is a joke if you're expecting to defrost your car and have it warm and toasty for you when you go out. The only way around this is the old way. Put on your sweats and coat and go out and start the car manually! I don't know what Kia was thinking with this but the autostart feature as it stands right now is a total fail. Instead, go for a third party autostart option that will probably be a LOT cheaper than the package that provides this feature from Kia. I wish I had done my homework ahead of time.
Good comment right here. This is why I've still never purchased a brand new vehicle - you can go into debt spending 30-40k on a vehicle you think will have convenient features that will make your life easier, only to be disappointed in the end. Even if you spend a ton of time watching reviews - you can miss little details like this. At least with my decade old beaters, I know exactly what to expect and the inconvenience comes with a lack of monthly payments.
Are you referring to Remote Start on the Key fob? I’m sorry I haven’t heard the term Auto-Start. To me that implies the car starts automatically versus a person pushing a button on the remote or in the case of my Mazda CX-5 on my Mazda Connect App. I just want to make sure I’m following you exactly: my wife wants a Kia K5 and I’ll do some research. Your comments are helpful. I just don’t like to make assumptions ever. So I don’t want to assume you are referring to remote start. Cars now offer so many features that I am not familiar to all of them. Thanks in advance and I hope you love your K5, minus the typical downsides that all cars have.
You said this has "multi reflector LED headlights." If this is the GT-Line AWD with the premium package it actually has LED projector headlights. The non-premium package comes with the multi reflectors.
Though Gold Pony doesn't emphasize the fact, AWD is not available in the K5 GT with its more powerful 2.5Lturbo engine. That's a shame but KIA isn't alone. Both the Camry and the Nissan Altima, the other mainstream midsize sedans that offer versions of AWD limit availability of the feature to their less powerful engine options. The reason is simple. High performance in a mainstream midsize "family" sedan doesn't sell. (For example, fewer than 5% of Camrys are sold with the 300+ hp V6 engine option.) Unfortunately, with neither AWD or at least a limited slip differential on the front axle is nearly impossible to put the full power of the FWD K5 GT to the pavement without wheel hop and torque steer. An issue that is not nearly as obvious with the much less powerful 1.6L engine (and lower price) in the GT-Line. And while wheel hop and torque steer may spell "performance" to adolescents, that's not the case for experienced drivers. Fortunately, at least for the present, there is an alternative. The KIA Stinger GT-Line offers the same engine as the K5 GT's 2.5L turbo. With AWD and fully loaded with a more upscale interior and features along with the greater versatility of a liftback design, the Stinger's MSRP is only a few thousand dollars more ($40,590) than a comparable K5 GT. Sadly, that option will be eliminated by mid-2022 if KIA ceases production of the Stinger.
I actually like how the exterior door trimming is blacked out. I normally see it in silver/chrome ish. Which takes away from the sporty presence. I'm wondering how much that option cost is.
I own the 2021 K5 gt-line AWD with optional special package. I am so amazed that it is loaded with plenty of tech. IIHS does gives this car crash test only 4 stars. My 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T is a top safety pick.

Premium + performance does not sell for economic midsize family sedans. I agree that the GT should be awd, therefore they are creating an incomplete performance car, better that they don't make the GT at this point, just stick with 1.6 L awd
I typically cover steering feel unless I'm driving a track/supercar. It handles fine, pretty much in line with the segment. If you want better handling look for an adaptive damping suspension like in the Civic Si for example if you're looking at a similar price range. 👍🏻
@@goldpony Yes, I can see your point. But, still, how a car handles are a very important part of what a car can do. A car which handles well, can save your life if it's necessary to make a quick move. Gold Pony, I don't agree with you, only very high-performance cars warrant a handling review. The K5 is still a sporty car, purchased by many people, some young, some middle aged, and some old, like me; I'm a young 71-year-old. I know, like me, we all would like to know how this car handles. Just saying, "The car handles very well, with little body roll," would have done the trick.
Not impressed with all the cheap looking blackout trim as it dominates everything. Would rather have body color mirrors and the chrome trim on the upper windows. The fake exhaust is unfortunate.
