@@jj2x210 I know what you're getting at here but what N/A V6 makes 370hp and 395trq? The gearing and weight are the only reason this isn't an easy win for the Dodge. The Kia is impressive but we can't deny that 5.7 swapped into it would be a screamer (easy 12s).
I couldn’t see how anybody would be mad at this tbh , this looks so much fun b . I could care less about who wins/loses , it’s all about the thrill and excitement you have with your car . It’s not about what you have to prove to someone
Exactly. That's what I don't get with all the hate in the car game today. I think with the choices out there today, it's a hell of a time to be a car guy. I mean we are talkin 13.5 second Hyundai and Kia family sedans from the factory let alone 700 horsepower Vettes and Mustangs.
Just bought a 2023 K5 GT with the GT1 package in Ebony Black with the Chestnut Brown interior… to say I’m in love is an understatement. So much value and fun in this car!
@@zMurderification still a joy to own and drive. Just passed 6000 miles and I can confirm with others that using premium fuel is the way to go. I average well above the rated mpg. Most freeway/highway trips it’s getting in between 36-40 mpg.
Great mash up! Big Dodge fan and HY/KIA Fan. This just proves how good that 2.5 is. I would still recommend anyone at least experience the 8spd 5.7, but yes it's got alot of car to push. No problem at launch, but you notice as soon as soon as you break 100mph.
Everything from doge looks good HP wise but then they make everything weigh like a tank which brings the crazy HP per price back down to real world meh
@@spacedog504 Teslas are not allowed to compete at our local drag strip. They are not real cars, just glorified Golf Carts. A real car has a start button or key to turn and uses gasoline. I could care less what that ugly autonimous vehicle that is monitored and can be remotely controlled by Elom himself can do performance wise. Im not impressed at all as I know electric motors can easily surpass gas engines, but they are boring and offer no real testosterone to the mix. Expensive fancy golf carts may attract the rich or "enviromentalists", but to me they are a bore and the performance does not impress me one bit. Id rather hear the ROAR of a gas sucking American V8 any fkn day
I'm a diehard V8/Mopar guy for as long as I can remember and that Charger is a car that I like quite a lot...but I LOVE how hard Kia and Hyundai have been trying in recent years. The Stinger, the "N" models, and now this surprising little gem...I have to give them my respect. As a fun/enthusiast car that one wanted to keep, mod, and love for the long haul, there's no way the Kia would ever beat the Charger. As a quick commuter appliance, the Kia is impossible to beat.
Unless you’re planning to add boost to the charger there’s no point in buying it. The K5 with a tune and bolt ons can probably get close to 400 hp, we see how quick it is with “only” 290 hp… the K5 is arguably one of the best value performers in terms of cost to speed. Also I wouldn’t get a charger to modify, I’d get a Mustang. The 5.0 is just to good when modified, and the 10 speed auto is just stupid fast…
If you think this KIA is cool I'd check out the 2017 to 2019 Ford Fusion Sport......325 Hp 385 ft lbs stock.....500$ tune by Unleashed and your at 400hp 450ft lbs......with the tune I have......I beat Scat Packs
Definitely agree there, and they are so underestimated! I recently bought a 2022 K-5 and I didn't even know the car completely drives it self like a tesla, that was a feature I didn't even know it had. I was so shocked when I found out and tried it out for the first time. I bout it with 10k miles for $20k and has an awesome red leather interior.
There are many great auto review RU-vidrs, but you have surprised me. Instead of over-opinionated, insulting and, at times, downright childish reviews, you present a simple, straightforward review of automotive performance with no bullshit added. And the vehicles tend to be of the affordable type for most consumers. Don’t get me wrong, detailed reviews are necessary, but not when all it consists of is bitching about piano-black interiors, the inability to get to the grocery store in under 5 seconds and whether or not the cup holders can accommodate a five gallon jug of Pepsi. Keep it simple and great job!
I think normal mode races should be eliminated. Just starting with sport modes, and seeing the difference with sport+ traction/stability off is good imo.
Seeing that weight difference on screen makes me cry. Dodge why you gotta make our Mopar so damn heavy. They weigh only 200 pounds less than an f150 supcrew with the 5.0!
The E Class Mercedes platform its on. The regulations on noise dampening. Dodge just said fuck it if we can't keep her light give her all the JUICE!!!!!!!
@Rick Hensley I raced a titanium expedition on my way up to vegas cause... (well if you've ever driven from the bay to vegas theres.... nothing) And bruh... it was humbling...
A charger comes with a 245 on a 8” wide rim. These reviews are more than likely sponsored by Kia. With my stock 17 rt I beat a stinger gt2 by a long shot, along with many other cars
@@hunterrechek6491 All the vehicles he drags are viewer supplied. He emphatically says that none of his reviews are manufacturer sponsored. In fact he actually turns them down. His vehicles come from local dealerships. On the other hand a stock RT on its best day will not beat a Stinger GT2 in a drag race. I know this as a former owner of a 2014 Q50S in which I beat (barely) the RT at a drag strip. Why? Because it cannot manage 0-60 in less than 5 secs. The Stinger is actually closer to the SRT 6.4. You might find that race here as well.
They make awd which is the crazy part. Just bought me a K5 yesterday. Which is why this video popped up on my RU-vid because I watching videos before I bought it
I've been in a 5.7 Charger RT in sport mode and this one didn't sound like that at all. Shifts were way to quick to be in sport mode...didn't go to red-line and then shift...something is off with this test!!!!
The charger never changed mode and he eased off the gas a little to let the Kia beat him for optical. The stringer cannot beat that charger at all. I had both
And I think that is why they softened the first gear launching to preserve long transmission life. Man just imagine if you remove the power restriction from the ECU and put on slick tires on the front....😦
@@rockefelleragent1357 No it's because of full torque available at just 1650rpm it would simply roast the tires. But you can simply flick a switch to disable that in sport mode.
The interior is mediocre. But you get far more in terms of performance and sportiness than any of the cars mentioned above. It had an actual LSD Handles better than both the K5 and accord. Has pretty much the best dual clutch trans which Is what the K5 is based on. And gains more power from a tune. It just depends on what ur shopping for
@@sharktin240 it's not just mediocre the quality is just bad. By 15k miles so much of that car was falling apart it was ridiculous. And being fwd, it would have benefited way more from an eLSD over the mech one. The DSG is good for a DCT but is still clunky and awkward in daily driving. If you do wanna tune and bolt on power it is smart to stay with the DSG tho bc the stock 6spd clutch is basically made out of glass haha. It's the same clutch that's in the 1.4t It obv is gonna handle better than the K5 and Charger tho I mean that's a given.. it's a small car. It's a Jetta lol. The wheel base is so much longer on the other 2. The K5 isn't a track attack car, it's a performance trim daily family sedan. It's not trying to be a track car lol.
This was very helpful to me, along with some of your Stinger and other Charger reviews. I am weighing the K5, Stinger and Charger and I'm having a hard time finding good reasons to not buy the K5 GT. Well done, sir! Thank you for your work!
You should consider getting a car that will hold its resale value over the years, theres no point in buying a car for 30k and in 5 years have a resale / trade in value of $10k. You should look into lexus is200/250 models and the wrx. I had an STI i got brand new in 2013 $37k off the lot, I traded it in last year with 60k miles and I got $30k in trade in equity for it.
I had a Charger RT for a few years, I have a Stinger GT now, and a family member currently has a Sonata N-Line. While I'm sure the K5 GT is a fun way to get around I think it's still hard to beat what a RWD platform offers dynamically.
The 5.7 was originally made to be a half ton truck engine only. I never understood why they bothered to keep it in their muscle cars. Good engine for my Ram 1500 but when I had one in my Charger RT...it was meh.
I think it has a very solid place among those who want a great sound but don't want to cough up for the performance variants. I had an SXT plus and I would have traded it for the 5.7 in a heartbeat after living with the awful sounds from that v6.
Awesome video, have the K5 race a Ecoboost Mustang HPP, I think that would be a great video and would have the entire mustang community watching aswell.

I love that Sound.. Guy across the street from me, down a few houses, has a hellcat and when he revs, it...oh boy... but also, I believe they're overpriced, as you just get a cool loud fast car, but not any good handling or other refinements for that much $$
I love my K5 GT. Amazing performance for a Kia and a 4 cylinder. Also gets awesome fuel economy and all of that on 87 octane might I add. Over the past year I have owned a Challenger R/T 5.7 and then traded it for a Charger Scat Pack 6.4 before this Kia and the K5 GT feels just as fast as the Scat Pack from a dig or slow roll to me. Sold the Scat Pack after 6 months due to rising gas prices and 11mpg while requiring 93 octane fuel. This K5 GT has similar feeling performance on 87 octane and it can get 35mpg average.
@@erick300k Actually I traded my daily driver 19 Honda Accord Sport for the Kia. I sold my weekend driver Scat to Carmax and a few months later bought my Miata. Carmax paid me more money than it costed new to buy the Scat Pack. Sorry but it wasn’t fun enough to justify 11mpg and premium fuel even just driving it on my weekends. I had a 18 5.7 Challenger R/T before the Scat and I actually regret trading it for the Scat. The 5.7 sounded better, got better fuel economy, and was still way more power than I needed to have fun. And I actually don’t have the Kia anymore. Traded it in a month ago for a 22 F150 4x4 Ecoboost Supercrew. The Scat is overhyped in my opinion. It was the car I sold the quickest after buying it.
@@BigTimeTrucker432 that Ecoboost purchase wasnt very wise. I would get rid of it pretty soon, they have a reputation of breaking down faster than any other Ford engine.
I have a 5.7 hemi challenger and I’ve raced a few cars here and there. Yea I’ve won and lost but ain’t gonna let that ruin the experience I have with the car. The drive is what matters to me 👍🏻.
Well aside from the fact the Kia is 6-700 lbs lighter, and the gears in that Charger are likely the 2.62s, one thing in my experience racing my 09 Challenger R/T at the track all these years is the 5.7 specifically doesn't like heating up to operating temperature when racing. The difference between letting my car cool down or running it at full temp is usually 3 tenths of a second. The iron block plays a part of it, but it doesn't seem like the 6.4 or the LT1's in the Camaro have it as bad as the 5.7. To those harping on the 5.7 in the comments, it's a great engine, R/T's are burnout and donut machines in stock form and incredibly fun to drive! They also pick up a lot of extra HP with minor mods and tweaks so it's a fun platform to get into and work on over the years. Not taking anything away from the Kia of course, it's cool to see that not only the muscle car side of the car hobby is seeing a surge in hp numbers but the import side as well. Both cars have very different personalities but either way I'm sure everyone can agree it's a great time to be a car enthusiast!
Not hating on the K5. Honestly thinking about getting one for DD. but this is video is BS. Either the driver not giving it all the gas or there’s something wrong with that car. Mine is definitely not that slow especially against a Kia k5
@Speed Tube i didnt say k5 gt will beat all american v8's.. it beat THIS v8 in the video. hellcat ? pick someone same size. you're comparing a stock 4 door sedan with 4 banger turbo to a 6.2L supercharged v8.
3rd one was much better than the first 2, I didn’t like how the charger was launching in the first two when it looked like the K5 GT was just going off the bat. Other than that, this was as expected and another great video! Nobody else does these kinds of races and the variety on this channel also helps.
I have the Stinger GT2 and it's great. I was considering the K5 BUT the highest HP K5 is only FWD and not AWD. The thing that the Charger has going for it that the Kia's do not is the aftermarket ability to make MONSTEROUS horsepower! Obviously I made my choice at the start of this comment and I'm extremely happy with it!

From someone who used to own a 5.7 R/T (now a 6.4), very nice video. Somethings to keep in mind as well: In stock form, the 5.7 generally will fall on it's face near the 1/8 mi, often a little bit beforehand (I've lost a couple of races right at the end due to this). Also, that Daytona R/T more than likely came with the 2.62 rear end gearing as opposed to the 3.07 (open differential) that could often be found in the R/T Plus models; not saying this would make a world of difference but I have beaten a 2.62 R/T Daytona. With a manual, the differential would go to the 3.09 found in Scat Packs as well. Again, not a world of difference and I firmly believe that the results (specifically in the roll) would be the same, but some information to keep in mind.
right! my brother has a 18 chally 5/7 shaker package with super track pac. rear gear is 3.70 and it walks all over most other 5.7 challengers and chargers. I could tell this car in the video had tall ass gears. it also didnt sound like it was revving out as high as it should.
Holy smokes!!! I was absolutely shocked at the difference between normal and sport without TC. For the money, the KIA is a great option for a daily driver.
Chrysler’s 5.7 HEMI engine deserves respect for the long list of popular cars and trucks it’s powered for nearly two decades. In my opinion, that goes to show the great success of the engine. If the 345 HEMI were a below average engine it’s unlikely Chrysler and Dodge would keep it around for so long in their flagship cars. The 5.7 Hemi was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2003 through 2007, and again in 2009...The Coyote made Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2011, 2012, and 2018.
my money is on Hemi normal mode, & K5 in sport mode. Unlike Stinger, its sport mode seems to help it out more, as Stinger goes beast mode in all modes, when full throttled !
As heavy as the Dodge is, it still has an advantage at 11.6 lbs per hp vs 12.3 lbs per hp for the Kia...and it still gets walked. Of course there's more to it than that (engine tuning, transmission, etc), but it's still an interesting outcome.
I once heard that if you double a cars weight you need to quadruple the horsepower to make it as fast. No idea if it's true or not but I think it was from a car magazine or something

Hey I have a 2009 sonata with that 3.3 v6 and mine is at 249 horsepower! I have beaten 3.6 v6 chargers and challengers easily. Beaten Hemi V8 rams on a daily basis. And beaten sooo many other cars in a drag race. Smoked lots of 6 cylinder BMW's an R32 golf Audi TT. I run 9.66 in an eighth mile at 78 mph faster than my brothers 2013 ltz impala 300 HP 3.6 ! Great engines 3.3 v6
I ran down a 5.7 Charger over Fourth of July weekend in my Sonata N Line. I was as surprised as he was 🤣 Yeah it could use an LSD but simply swapping the P-Zero All-Seasons for Michelin PS4S has made a huge difference.

Your Bible literally predicted him as the anti christ and you fools wear the mark of the beast on your heads in the form of a traitorous MAGAt hat, made in China ironically. May God forgive you
It's all about power to weight, easy to find who will win. The less weight per HP = faster Charger 370hp/4291lbs = 11.5lbs: 1hp Stinger 290/3471 = 12.3lbs:1hp And also how long between run, was each car checked for heat soak etc??
I’m surprised the Challenger was faster from a dig then the K5 came back, I figured it would be the other way around. Not to take anything away from the Kia but that is the fastest K5 if I’m not mistaken against the 1 step up from base Challenger. A 392 would be much faster than this 345, I’m not even going there with a Hellcat. Pretty impressive for a 4cylinder turbo but I like RWD and hate FRD, I also love V8 thunder.
I was saying something to that effect in another comment in here- that until the 3.0 I6 twin-turbo replaces the 5.7 in the R/T's for 2023/24, that a fair apples to apples comparison would be to run the K5 (which is forced-induction) against the forced-induction Charger- the Hellcat. Yeah I know, 700+ hp against 290 is asanine- but still. We all have that morbid curiosity.
@@kskip4242 they need to for sure, but it might and it might not, engine itself may be lighter but then all the plumbing for TT adds back. It will still be faster though either way, even though I love a V8

Wow! If HMG continues on this trajectory, then Hyundai Motor Group will easily surpass Honda or any other “reliable” Japanese manufacturers. Their 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty speaks loads about their confidence level.
@@NinoNlkkl I disagree. It will be years before consumers stop eyeing HMG products, especially Kia, as cheap, suspect products. It will be up to our younger generations to propel it beyond a very long stretch of successful models from Honda. It’s definitely a possibility, but it hasn’t earned the same reliability reputation as Honda just yet.
Talk about major humiliation, been saying this for years now, without the hellcat engine these chargers and challengers are just noise...fat, and slow LMAO
i'm stunned. that charger with with 5.7 hemi may not be a challenger, but it is a killer. i wouldn't have believed the kia 5 gt would perform this well against it. i expected the kia to have quicker pick up, but get beat as the race progressed....instead it was the reverse.
The Dodge platform is not built to be competitive in roll racing. It never has been. They are made to have strong low-end torque to get a 4k plus pound vehicle moving. They will lose the majority of roll races against any other platform.
I have the older with 273 HP, 269 ft-lbs. It doesn't jump out of the hole either. When it's moving however, you shift to first you must be careful not to snap your neck. (I have, and it hurts). It was never designed as a drag car, but a GT car for traveling with excellent acceleration and handling. My 2013 turbo model has enormous brakes, and the suspension is better than man high end cars (no names).
The RT looks like it's fast, but the platform is too heavy for the 5.7 and goes to show that looks can be deceiving. The 5.7 was never meant to be a performance motor and were designed for Ram pickups to begin with, so it's way under powered and have got to be at least the 392 to be competitive
@@bumpylump9236 392 MSRP 40k, and it's not fully loaded, so if you want the same features as that "Kia" you looking at around 60k for a plastic boat 🚢, and when that kia get new spark plugs smaller gap, JB4 and 93 octane. Bye bye charger. Be a smart man and choose that kia.
