Hopefully this video is useful for those who are considering the 2022 Kia Sportage. Only Grade 3 and above was available at the launch hence not showing Grade 2 or GT Line. I will update the review in the description with details of the PHEV once they are officially released. Peace!
I have ordered the GT Line S a few weeks ago but have to wait about 16 weeks so i can't wait for it to arrive. Took out for a test drive and was well impressed with the lay out of the cockpit and drive was smooth.

How does the plug in handle long journeys.. does the battery run out completely and you’re just left with the petrol Engine or does it alternate so it never runs out of battery?? I’m just not sure what to get hybrid or plug in. Cheers.. )
Great review Ben! I keep telling these people that you should be the host of Top Gear. As for the car, here in the States I have seen a couple of them rolling around so for 💩t’s and giggles I inquired about buying one at the local dealership. Basically the semi conductors, transmission modules, and those fancy passenger usb ports are in a box, in a container, on a ship somewhere in the middle of the Pacific, right next to the couch you ordered eleven months ago. This translates to a 13 month wait for one these schnazy Kias.🤘😬🤘
Thank you, not sure I'm good enough for such a legendary role (and poison chalice) but I'll take the compliment! The whole chip shortage thing really does seem to be causing quiet havoc. I guess the manufacturers who were smart enough to buy all these scarce items are having the last laugh. Kia made it sound relatively okay in the UK but I would not be told anything to the contrary. Bad for business! So yes, sitting on the floor continues...
Been looking at these in the GT Line S HEV model. And was curious what the paddle shifters was for. As I've driven the Ionic and that does the regen braking. Wondered if this was the same.
Hey thanks for the review. Unusual question, how do you find the front seats in terms of leg support? I'm 6'4 and always struggle with leg support especially on long journeys. Do you find the seats "shallow"? Thanks
At 6ft I didn't notice any issue and I think you can raise up the front area although I'm unsure if that would help in your case. I'd recommend you sit in one to test - sorry that's not especially helpful.
@@ATribeCalledCars yes I've tried raising seats in cars before which helps a bit but not a lot. As you say probably best to try one (whenever the wallet allows me). Thanks
@@rogercallow3277 It is for the non hybrid, MHEV and HEV. Kia is yet to release some PHEV-specific details so maybe it has a different braked load. Will hopefully find out soon.
Not everyone buys a car based on excitement only. This is a very popular class of vehicles and there are definitely people shopping for something like this one who appreciates a breakdown of its main features.

@@marley2319 So the battery will recharge on a journey unless, I believe, you push into the blue bars (around 10-12% remaining). At this point only a plug-in recharge will get it back. Assuming you have battery, there is a bit of a debate whether it's best to run the EV mode until it runs out then HEV. Or save EV until the end. I think the former makes most sense because you can recharge along the way and have electric for the return. The challenge is being light enough with the accelerator to let the recharge do its thing! Ideally if you can keep the battery topped up the plug-in will win on efficiency. Just will take a longer time to overcome the higher cost. Hopefully that helps / makes sense.
