*TO CLARIFY* - Everywhere except North America, this is the 2021 model year. HOWEVER, because the 2022 Kia Stinger is trending on RU-vid, I have to put 2022 and not 2021. So in Australia, this is a 2021 Kia Stinger GT = North American 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 🙂
Picked up my 2022 Stinger GT1 in Ascot green. What an amazing car! My brother drove it and immediately went to the Kia dealer to trade in his beloved BMW M5 and got the ceramic silver GT2. He can’t believe it’s made by Kia ! You have to drive it to appreciate it.........Outstanding!
Mine should arrive for delivery any day.........waited over 3mths & replaces my beloved 2016 SSV Commodore......can't wait to fill the tank and cruise the 2,000klms to Townsville and avoid winter.
@@rohanmurray3031 apparently 2022 will be the last year of production for the Stinger. Which is a huge shame because rear wheel drive performance sedans will be out of most peoples budget as the Euro companies are the only ones making them now 😔
I’d like to see someone include a trip to Bunnngs in a road test for the Stinger. On top of all power, the tech, the looks etc, the fact that I can get 3m lengths of timber in mine is worth a mention 💪
Just got One in America it’s Orange 🍊 you won’t be disappointment in The Performance and Hanging and The Ride the Comfort and Power it’s worth it, I had a Nissan Maxima no Comparison this is a Car you won’t be disappointed in driving
Excellent review and well said. I’ve driven one since 2018. This update addresses all of my relatively minor concerns (primarily interior quality). But I haven’t looked back, or regretted the decision. The badge snobs are honestly not driving enthusiasts if they can’t bring themselves to look at this car. They just want the badge. Well, enjoy the high price and insane service costs 3 years in.
Great job on the review mate! Been looking into this car for a long time and I tend to agree with the changes to the 2021 model. Thanks for creating more awareness around what KIA have tried to achieve, because like you said this car is so underrated! You made a new subscriber out of me! 👍
I went from a 2019 Korean SUV (Rexton Ultimate )to a Stinger and can honestly say it’s the best car I have ever owned and I’ve had 37 at the last count😳 the badge snobs are also the same people who really don’t know about cars, they happily but blindly follow the crowd but it’s them who loose in the end, I’ve got one I win, end of. 😂😂😂😉💪🏼👍
Hello from the UK and great review Matt and I was as happy as that last Thursday when I picked my new Stinger up. What a fantastic car. I had a BMW 330d Xdrive for 4 years and while it was a great car this is better especially long distance refinement and cruising and ok we know the beast under the hood takes care of itself. The kit list as standard yip that’s a winner to it. Keep up the good work and let’s fly the flag for the Kia Stinger.
Great 2021 Stinger GT review, I like how you mentioned the massive shift to SUVs and all the badge snobs out there, which affects low Stinger and sedan sales, defintely you get alot for your money, I have owned a Stinger GT over 3 years now, I love it more now than ever, I can't believe how rare it still is on Aussie roads, which I love about it, and I'm sure people stare at it more than all those German luxury brands , which are so common these days, they are almost like the good old Fords and Holdens which still swarm our streets, and don't get a second, or even first look, the encounters I have had on the road, the Mercs, BMW and Audi owners seem scared to look my way, very intimidated and have never taken me on, imagine how humiliated and embarrassed if a Kia left them in the dust, anyway, I imagine your done with the Kia Stinger now that you have reviewed this 2021 model, but if your ever interested to do a comparison review between old and newer versions, I'm in Melbourne also, and I have an early 2018 model. Ohh, also from Facebook group.
I’m in Melbourne too, and mine is a 2018 car. Had a lady next to me on the road asking how I found the car tonight. She said she loves the looks of them and always looks when she sees one. Then there’s the enquires I get in other situations. Two in the one place last weekend with the closing comment that the lady concerned loved my fancy car and was it new. In my ownership of this car, I’ve had to get used to the stares and other cars racing up behind me and sitting on my tail to get a good look at the car on the road.
It is so ironic that Australia, the home of the iconic performance sedans disbanded their local offerings with Holden and Ford only to be replaced by a Korean brand unknowingly being Kia who would’ve thought?!
When I was younger, a sweet exhaust was high on my priorities, now couldn’t care less. What they have done now is probably on point for their target market. Most who want a loud exhaust would modify it regardless.
@@leeharvey4671 hi mate…have you got a 2021 model? The plug are located at the mufflers, just unplugged and wrap the plugs in some tape…just make sure you do it on a cold start so the valves are open
@@moy_8256 I’ve been cooling my heels since Jan waiting for mine. I think they are still refining the ore to get the steel for it…anyway….when it does arrive, I’ll give it a whirl. I’ll keep your details for an update. Thanks for the info, appreciate it.
Great review, my thoughts exactly after test driving one yesterday. Should have paperwork signed some time next week to get one. Doubt their will be another one once this generation is finished. Too expensive in Europe and not enough people buying them in US. Can’t think of a better all round car for the money.
Once you drive a performance type Kia, nothing compares! I've got a Cerato GT and it's SPECIAL and I'm super proud to rely on my own judgement as to what constitutes a great car, and of course your judgement Matt, haha, and the brand is no longer cheap and cheerful, it's value for money and great quality, tick, tick, tick!
I have no issue with the KIA company at all. They have produced good value cars with spectacular Warranties and dealer support. I have on the other hand owned from new; Audi Quattro, and two 5 series BMW's .. The Audi had a major failure within the first 5 hours! No one had thought to check the engine oil during the costly dealer delivery process! It was plagued by faults that the dealer could not fix! BMW, ..... Where do I start, ..... 3 pages of faults, major transmission issues at 22k Kilometers, .... Dealer denied the issues! That ended up in court! Massive depreciation! First BMW, ... electrical issues, vehicle would just stop! ... couldn't be fixed! German warranties are very short, ... Have you ever thought why? Porsche 3 Years! (They clearly don't expect them to last!) The Germans have a long way to go to catch up with Korean built vehicles. I will never ever look at German rubbish again. The Koreans have so much to offer, ... at a fraction of the cost and hold their values just like German brands DON'T.
Hi Matt..... I'm on my second Kia Stinger I had an 18 GT1 now I have the 2020 Indigo that's the limited edition GT ( only 500 built ) and there are only 55 in the US chrome blue with the chocolate interior AWD obviously love the car but you're right they really need to do something with the exhaust it's too quiet I get that it's a Grand touring but they should have did something like they did with the Velociter N to the Stinger exhaust lol maybe somebody from Kia will read my post and send me MagnaFlow exhaust system lol hahaha 🤣 but anyway I liked your review thanx.
@@lawmanlawreaper can't believe you are still waiting. Perhaps they should give you a free upgrade given your wait time to the Scorpion version that is coming out. That rear spoiler really sets it off. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer.
Excellent review as always. Totally correct about badge snobbery and SUV"s. The lack of advertising is shameful and is probably one of the reasons why the sales are low. I just wish instead of a heated steering wheel, the wheel could have cooling especially on a hot day like Good Friday in Melbourne. Love my Stinger.
Great review, you hit the nail on the head with your comments about it being a jack of all trades. I now have my 2nd Stinger GT in Panthera metal which looks awesome. As an aside I sold my 2017 GT after the lease expired and got great money for it and the phone did not stop ringing so resale value will not be an issue . Apart from scheduled services I have not put a spanner on my Stingers , I certainly can't say the same of the Fords and Holden's I have owned.
i really wanted a dodge scatpack widebody since the longest but this now my favorite car. Rwd is what i need cuz i like to drift but all the features are insane. Reliability and handling and interior space is nice and it gets great mpg. perfect car
Kia badge and marketing the problem kia spent more marketing the k5, besides when a consumer wants a sport sedan kia doesn’t come to mind its m340 c43 s4 s5 sorry just facts
I priced an online build for a Mustang GT in Aus with a few options like magnaride suspension and an auto box and it was just over $78,000 AUD.Stinger was $68,000 AUD.Not sure what the fit and finish is like on the Stinger but it seems to be good.Reading the Ford forums with members that own a Mustang and a fair few have build and quality issues.
Surely its crying out for a decent manual trans ? They went out on a limb with the Stinger project why crimp sales with a compromise offering .On another note, yes Matt the Picanto is a lotta fun!
Great video and looks like a fun drive. Are the rear left/right indicators sequencing when turning? I wasn’t sure if your video at 4.50 is showing hazards pattern or turning indicator pattern?
Pull the gun away, turn it around, karate kick the offender... In all seriousness - I would personally go for the mustang. It's just magestic, has so much more theatre and character. I literally became emotional driving it and that's never happened to me before. I miss it dearly. But the stinger is objectively the better daily driver.
@@CarSauce cheers for the reply! I had come to pretty much the same conclusion myself! Ordered a manual GT with magneride... See how long it takes to turn up!
No hate best car value for money ,money can buy very fast car But very boring Soccer mum car still want a clubsport or a GTS over a kia just boring to me . But value for money, 12sec car kia really doing well don't know how they get the parts cheap enough to make a profit margin.
Love them Been following them for 4 years Just ordered one yesterday Price gone up to 70k though which shipping costs Plus another 3 k for paint and leather protection etc They are a weapon Such a good car Now I just have to wait 10 months so will be a nice Xmas pressie
2022, .... Old badges? Are we getting old stock? (As Per Usual!) Australian market = Hike the price, .... Remove options that every other market gets. Give then old out of date models! I am planing on purchasing the 2022 Stinger, ... However, if when I walk into the dealership and I see the old badges, ... I will walk straight out and take KIA off any future considerations.
Awesome car! Cannot wait to collect my Dec 2022 build from the dealer later this week…been waiting 11 months for it! By the way…not entirely sure it’s the people’s choice to go SUV mad; it’s the dealers/manufacturers that have pushed the population to by SUV’s because that’s all they want to offer us to buy in Australia - it’s dealers calling the shots and limiting choice and I don’t think that’s fair…so many better global choices that we don’t get offered here. Thanks for the fun review…I’m excited for mine! 🎉🥳
I just ordered (Dec, 21) a Ceramic Grey with black leather. Delivery July - September 22 some time. The anticipation is awesome. I have a Mk 7 Golf R to keep me warm until it arrives.
The transmission works very well and quickly, it is obviously a DCT transmission?.🤔👍🏼👌🏼😉 The lower torque of the engine should be a little better (AWD model:1300-1400r/min->...), but...not bad.🤔
Matt i will tell you when i pick up my Gt in Silver, Red Nappa interior. I have been waiting 8 months for my MY22 Stinger GT, should have got it last week but just had a lock down here in Brisbane so hopefully i get the call this week. :)
I'm strongly considering buying one of these, but I'm worried about the paint - I've read that the paint is quite thin and chips easily? Can anyone comment on this? If I buy one I'll be keeping it for 6-7 years and I don't want the front all covered in chips in that time. I'm a big fan of the blue colour, but covered in stone chips would probably be quite noticeable on that colour..
It is a relatively common complaint. I would PPF it as soon as I got one for protection, but also note that paint defects should be covered under warranty and I've heard of peeling paint being totally resprayed under warranty! It's a common issue amongst Korean and Japanese cars especially for whatever reason 😔
I wanted an Audi RS3 sedan but can only find a used sedan for around the same price as a new stinger, can't argue with that 7 year unlimited kilometre warranty either, it really is a smart performance car choice
Have my GT for ~2 years now. Nothing on the market really compares. The gearbox software updates really helped the eco mode in this car so you aren’t guzzling all the time. Will keep it another year, but would love a new exhaust that cracks and pops. Any recommendations that won’t void warranty ?
The exhaust new look is what’s makes the car look cheap… come on Kia… it’s the same car with same power. Next they will say they changes the Cold air intake and that added a extra 5hp… lol.
Just letting you know the my22 model in Australia will most likely receive a digital instrument cluster as other models such as the Carnival. This wasn't added in these models due to covid.
