It’s so funny how split people are on this SUV. You have the people (like myself) that love the simplicity, reliability, and that NA V8. Then you have the people complaining about how dated it is. How many other SUVs in this class can you guarantee will be solid for 10-15 years at least? Great video!!
@@naveenthemachine BMW and Mercedes are pretty solid during the warranty period, especially the Genesis. Like you said, JLR products are the worst. My buddy’s family leases those cars and they’ve been burned with every one with repairs. Not financially, but just with the headaches of taking them in.
When I moved to my 2016 GX from an RX I was surprised at just how car-like the handling was and how comfortable it was. Can take this on forest roads, fancy restaurants, can sleep in it, move a chest of drawers, and can move around a bunch of kids. Love the “old school” feel of that v8. Modern cars just put me to sleep, but this still makes you feel like you’re part of the world around you. Love this car!
I love this vehicle, its the only one these days that stick to the good old roots. Reliable NA v8, awd, plush interior and bold looks. Good job lexus keep it up.
I love my GX. It’s a 2017. Bought it used. It was a lease return. 35k with 30k miles on the odo a couple years ago. That is the sweet spot. I intent to keep mine for a long time. Mines got Dobinsons 2.5” lift, 17” on 33” tires. Retrofitted crawl control and MTS. Prinsu rack and a GOBI ladder. And the Magnaflow exhaust really lets you hear that nice V8 rumble. Things a beast offroad. Maybe when it’s no longer my daily, I’ll go full tilt with bumpers and long travel. Dream on.
The people who complain about these are never going to buy one regardless, people just like being loud on the internet. Luckily for those who need the “latest and ‘greatest” do have many other choices in the SUV world. This would be in my top 3 choices for best SUV currently on the US market. Great vehicle.
I have a 2022 GX and I love this thing!. The reliability and capability is unmatched!. The full time 4wd is superb!!. The only bad thing is the horrible gas milage but I knew that going in plus all the vehicles I owned before were gas hogs so I’m used to bending over I guess :-). Keeping it until the wheels fall off!!!
@@enriquecarrillo3909 I wish I can get 15mpg in the city with the GX. I know Lexus says that’s how much it gets in the city but from owing mine, it averages about 13-13.5 in the city. On the highway, 17-20mpg depending on how you drive. The 23 sequoia should be better. Not sure about the v6 twin turbo reliability.
I love this vehicle, just the perfect amount of everything, the size, the powertrain, the tried and true technology but I still looking forward to the next-gen GX, hope it will just get better and maintain all of the good features
I like how fair Topher is. Most reviews criticize the handling as it doesn’t respond well to sudden directional changes. But for most commuter and 95% of the buyers, it’s plenty good enough. In the real world I feel like most cars can be pushed if you understand how to be a good driver and slowly build up grip around corners and being predictive. Still a solid choice.
Yah I completely agree. Most of the grip just depends on the type of tire and the road conditions. This car seems to have plenty especially for commuting and driving through daily traffic. A lot of the reviewers want a super sporty SUV, but I don't get it an SUV is never going to be as sporty as a proper sports car and it just ruins the comfort along with the off-road capability. The entire point of the SUVs used to be that they were great off-roaders, now they became raised less comfortable minivans. Might pick one up once used car prices are sane again. Either this or the upcoming type R lol. Really torn on weather I want another sports car to daily or something more comfortable.
The fancier Prado and 4Runner. I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Sure it might be dated, but a lot of off-road capable SUV’s are actually intended to be that way if you think about it. It’s their years of ruggedness and durability that stands the test of time, so that’s why they’re timeless.
This vehicle exudes confidence. Yes, it is old, but it also shows people prefer build quality and durability over anything else. I have an 08 model, and will probably upgrade to a GX460 when it is time for an upgrade. They are gas pigs, but that's the only downfall they have.
the sound of the starter motor on that 4.6 V8 is one of the best start up sounds. On my v8 that is usually a highlight, especially with an aftermarket exhaust
Great review! I just got a 2023 GX premium. Traded in my 2021 4Runner TRD ORP. Absolutely love it! Made sure to get one before you no longer can after this year. Some people may say it’s outdated, but to me it’s new 😉
Love these SUVs only thing I didn’t like was the center stack in the interiors but now that they fixed that and made it look better I’d buy one no question
This video makes me miss my 2005 4runner v8 limited with hydraulic suspension. The ride and handling balance was good for what it was, and the steering had good feel and weighting to it. And the v8 torque and sound brought the whole package together.
The GX is an excellent vehicle. I often find that its priced at the same price range as a 4runner, Highlander, Tacoma slightly used. Its rediculous bc this is a Lexus and you have the refinement, features, and looks a lot better than the Toyotas. As a Lexus owner, the features that make it stand out to me is the luxurious and soft leather seats, the quality of the material and paint, and quiet ride. Dont forget this is one of the most capable off road vehicle in the world.
Best kept secret! Equal or greater reliability, more power, more luxury, less money! The 4Runners styling is more appealing to some in that it's more subtle, but the 2010-2013 GXs are very Prado-esque and will become collectors items due to their subtle looks and rarity relative to the 2014+ models.
Really good car, driving very comfortable. Easy to turn or parking, smooth power. A bit stiff than my rx350l to drive though. I decided to go with a 2017 LX which speed up more powerful.
For me , Lexus brand is quite pay attention to the passengers , Even though safety system , comfortable and technology . Lexus is the premium grade of Toyota and in every generation have produced in Japan. PS. I really love this channel , because this channel has explained a car quite clearly and use a simple words , their’s easy to understand. FC . from Thailand
Yes indeed. Forgot the turbo, electric, auto start stop, 25 speed transmission nonsense. This is a dying breed. Just a very solid vehicle a guy can depend on.
If it’s sole purpose is reliably and longevity then why on Earth would I spend $60k on this dated design when I could get the Toyota equivalent for less? Or better yet, if I’m spending $60k I’m gonna go and actually buy a luxury car. All these car manufacturers… you don’t need 60-70 grand for reliability I can tell you that much.
@@dylspeckk I would say that the 4Runner is far less luxurious in comparison and it doesn't have the V8. The only reliable body on frame comparably priced vehicle I can think of would be a loaded up Tahoe or Yukon
Love the GX, the triple-beam headlights looks really good, not to mention it's rated the most reliable new vehicle of 2021, with a perfect mark of 100/100 😉
I have a 2021 GX Luxury and did not realize they made the trim around the door window switches black plastic now, vs wood trim in the 2020-2021. You win some, you lose some.
For those of you STILL complaining, go buy an older Lexus GX or LX. Seriously, people are nitpicking on the most irrelevant aspects. What’s next, people not buying because it doesn’t say Lexus on the left hand side of the trunk anymore? I know some people who will not buy this vehicle because the rims are not of their “style.” Absolutely ridiculous reasons. Those people deserve to ride a 90s Camry or Corolla or even an ES 300. 🤦♂️
Nice video, as a 2023 owner I couldn't help but laugh at 9:23 "The suspension is a little bit busy, a little bit on the stiff side" but looking above the digital speedometer, can see the red banner which means it's in sport mode. Which means it's in the most "busy and stiff" setting lol. You can feel these modes too. I'll throw the GX in sport to run some errands, then my gf will get in with me the next day and she'll ask in under 60 seconds of driving "is this in sport mode? It feels too bouncy". Sport for summer pavement driving, Normal for everyday, Comfort for... I dunno what comfort is for but it's too soft and boaty. I'm in normal mode 95% of the time. Also 10:03 ... chef's kiss. I will never ever get tired of punching the gas on this truck
We just picked up our 2022 Luxury in Caviar. It’s our second vehicle so we do intend go keep it 10-15 years. Rock solid reliable, buttery smooth V8, great NVH levels and now with AppleCarplay, LOL.
No replacement for displacement. Also, let’s all be honest here, some say its dated... dated in what sense? LED lights - check Modern NAV and display with apple car play - check Comfort - check Simplicity - check Reliability - check Tube shocks and not air sus - check Can it bring you pretty much more than 90% of most people will bring this car - check what else do we really honestly need???
I agree!. It’s almost people repeat what they hear about it being dated. This thing is more capable and reliable than 99% of vehicles out there. Love the GX!
Agreed, I like how Lexus sticking with simplicity. I don't need much tech. If people want a lot of tech, I say get a Mercedes-Benz or BMW. I rather have a vehicle that's reliable and simple. And Lexus is definition of that
Wish you'd mention if the infotainment also worked with Android Auto. I had to wait until the end to know you said AA. 😉Not an Apple person at all, but I do know many vehicles have worked with Apple CarPlay for a while now, but not as many Android Auto. Always hope for more with it. This or a 4Runner have been my choice ones. Also wireless is overrated. And charging pads will never be as good as straight plug-in USB. The only cons outside of price are the way the rear doors opens to me. I appreciate the 4Runner's hatch. This is the luxury step-up with a V8 imo. And you hit the nail on the head. That GX is reliable and durable. With proper maintenance I'd think 300,000-400,000 miles easy. And for some that just drive around town it'll last 15+ years no problem. Range Rovers won't do that. And if you're bringing up gas why are you looking into a luxury SUV with a V8? And until chip production and vehicle manufacturing returns to pre-pandemic levels I think $70k is going to be more the average for a luxury SUV.
Great video! My father-in-law have the Toyota version of it (in my country it's sale as Toyota Land Cruise Prado), that car is a tank, it handles everything extremely good a smooth. Toyota/Lexus vehicles are like the Queen, they will last forever haha.
Last BMW X5 I had it started to leak oil with under 40.000 miles, it was amount $4.000 fix , thanks God I had extended warranty then I paid it off and sold it
This car is perfect. After your Golf R video with permanent drone sound and loud tire bumps, this GX is very peaceful and quiet and tire noise is somewhere underneath not bothering much. Instead of moving to service station like with other cars and charging -5000$ for repairs, this GX saves money to install some performance red brakes for better safety on highway and in a city. No need a borla, magnaflow constant drone annoying exhaust here. 😆The Engine bay is even barricaded by plastic covers, it means you don't need to climb there deeply.🤣 I really would buy that GX 2022 for 50K only, instead of Golf R, omg...and, scary to say, Tesla model 3. 😵💫 We'll see what next gen GX will be... 3.5L V6 turbo with 10-speed probably, and modern interior.. 16:57 this one is old and still beautiful so much! 😲
I will take this over a Porsche, MB, BMW, etc any day. This is known around the world as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, one of the most reliable go anywhere, in any condition car in the world.
I still like the pre-interior change more.. the carplay isn't a feature to me, i really don't like either carplay or android.. but the lexus navigation is good enough for me..
2022 interior/dash with 2010-2013 exterior front end and it’d be perfect. That current low hanging predator looking front end is ridiculous looking and counter to off roading.
has Lexus ever said why they don't add the suspension adjustment to the front? Considering the gx doesn't have good ground clearance at all it would've made sense
Love everything about this GX except the old gas drinking V8. I was considering between this and X5 in 2014 and got the x5 for the advanced power train.
The only thing I don’t like is that stupid beeping whenever you close the door, that got old quick lol. Either this or an older land cruiser, I need one.
What color is the interior seats. Is it similar to GX 2019 color called Ecru it’s more like cream, light tan color. It looks elegant, nice when new and clean but I think for the off road truck like GX this color shows out when dirty! What do you think? Thanks
GX had pretty much everything outside of self driving. I would never let the car drive itself. Precollision, parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise. No pedestrian alert though I think. It had a ton of airbags and that body on frame will keep your family safe vs unibody
I have strange issues in my brand new 2022 gx 1st: hand brake is too loose to level that not enough to hold the car in moderate slopes. 2nd: whenstop in uphill and put it in D to go forword, it produces very strong grinding-like sound below driver feet with some orange lights up (may be traction icon)... It happen if the hill is enough to draw gx backword when on D without gas.... So when you press gas to level not enough to push it, this sound came out.. If you press gas harder it go forword... But that sound and grinding I think shouldn't happen... I have dealership appointment and I will explain these issues and see. 3rd thing is that, I feel my gx is too high in rear wheels!!!! I hope it is not
I love this car except in 2022, after $70k, you don't get the stop and go traffic assist like the other Lexus models. Wish they can add that in 2023 before I can jump on one.
