Interesting comparison. Size wise, the RX is closer to Q7 than Q5. In where I live, a used RX (2016-2018) would cost you 50-80% more than a Q5. They cost even a lot more than the Q7 here. Q5 (and Audis in general) is a great car but if I could find a RX roughly in the same price range, I would opt for the Lexus. And this coming from someone who had Audis for almost 30 years in the family :)

It is such kind of reviews that sways some people into getting an Audi. I own an Audi Q5 and that has see the repair garadge to the tune of 20k usd out of warranty. And to put it in perspective, it has about 85k miles on it. I also have a toyota camary and its over 15 years old. The car is still flawless. I have yet to take it for one signigicant repair. The only flaw in the camary was the battery went out after 4 years sadly and it has taken the cheapest oil change money can buy. Audi's are great if you plan to lease them and get rid of them. All handling goes out of the window, once your audi starts to break down post warranty. I still own the Q5 and will probably keep it, but if it keeps going back to the garadge, then its going to be out

I bought my Q5 in 2015 new and have similar experience in reapir cost. It was serviced at Audi dealer all along. After 85000 easy freeway miles, it broke down on my way back to LA from Vegas without any warning required engine work (valve stuck, carbon buildup, this is a consequence of the direct fuel injection design ). The pistons could have been damaged but did not. My independent German car mechanic told me also that the timing chain did not have the Audi marking, in other words not OEM? The engine was manufactured in Hungary (the six cylinder on the Q7 also made in Hungary). The engine had to be removed for the repair. Afterwards it was drive shafts, suspension link replacement. I still have the Audi at 125000 miles. It so far perform perfectly. I don’t expect it would last another 15000 miles without major repairs. This is going to be my last Audi. Or last German car. I owned an BMW before and was not impressed with its quality either. I have a 2021 RX350 F with 20-in wheels. It is a wider, longer and taller car than the 2015 Q5. It uses regular 87 gas. The lexus‘s character is different.

Great Video and comparison, we went through this decision making process before we decided to go with Audi Q5 last year. The feeling in the Q5 is simply great when compared to the RX. RX is a great car, reliable but we felt it's very dull and lacks that punch. Agree with the reliability with Japanese cars, my previous MDX had all kinds of issues with transmission, suspension replaced. With that bad experience we decided to go with Audii Q5. From price point of view Q5 was cheaper vs RX and had lot of more better tech and better interior compared to RX, RX interior felt outdated. Few of our friends have owned Q5 since 2016 and they have enjoyed and it's been reliable since 6+ years of ownership.I just hope our Audi lasts 8-10 years without any major repairs. RX will outlast Q5 only for its history in reliability. The engine and Transmission in the recent Audi's have been out there for sometime and reported to be reliable. Again it's personal choice when comparing these 2 cars.

Well it depends on the model. RX450H is premium only while the RX350 states 87 octane is fine In the user manual. Same with my ES300h, no issues with unleaded so far 50k miles in. Premium is always going to be a better grade fuel overall but its not necessary is all engines types, some of these lexus engines are really just toyota engine retuned.

The cost of the "lease and dump" plan of car -ownership- usage is exorbitant. The example you're giving at 30:20 shows a Total Cost = $22,668 over 36 months, which is $7,556 per year, or $630 per month. It's easy to look at a cost/month and say "I makes the good money, I can afford this luxury," but good lord, $7500 a year is a lot of money out the old window. And 7% interest. Yuck. Something must be wrong with me, as I am aiming to spend $2000 a year. Even in the crazy used car market recently, you can get a decent car for $15k, even a good used Lexus (does a good used Audi exist?). Hang onto that cream puff (if you bought it smartly) for 5 years and sell it for $10k, Spend the remaining $1k per year on keeping a used car running, which may or may not be generous depending on how hard you treat a car, random chance, etc. Also, with the way the used market has been, your cream puff might still be worth $14k. Cash up front is what's required, which can be tough. Anyway, between the 2 examples above, I prefer the Lexus for various reasons, probably mostly because in this segment, you're not setting fast lap times, so prioritize comfort for you and your passengers above all else. If you don't have passengers very often, buy a Miata. Good presentation as always, and a fair comparison. Keep up the great work!

For sure it is an expensive hobby but unfortunately I can’t recommend anyone owning a European car outside of warranty plus depreciation. But for the people with high incomes, dual incomes, businesses, or retired I guess it’s just a drop in the bucket for them
@jeffbaker9847
@jeffbaker9847 2 года назад
@@MeynMotorGroup Nah, European is out of the question. Unless maybe some sweet old E36 BMW came along and looked right, coming from a time when they built em right, as old farts would say. Generally, for a solid used car, I'm talking 2005+ Hondas and Toyotas. Certainly, anything over 10-15 years old, regardless of make, is a gamble. But I might rather gamble $7k on a used car once, rather than definitely lose $7k every year on a new car (leased or bought) that isn't all that great anyway. Really, all a person needs is one reliable, decent car. Then a guy can goof around with '80s or '90s cars all they want, after all depreciation is long past, and they might've started going back up. Truly, few people want to be out in the garage goofing around with cars. With your new car reviews, you are addressing the 95% of people who want reliability, certainty, style and can't risk the car failing on their dime. But I think that's an expensive place to be -- more expensive than a decent used car. But they might worry less. Might.

For me it was hard decison, Rx vs X3 vs Q5. RX steering wheel is very stiff., very difficult to drive for my sisters. X3 was the best overall, spacious and love handking but it was just to ugly. Q5 was the easiest drive but rear seat was not for adult so tiny compare to RX or X3. In the end i picked Q5 because it was easy to drive.

Great video...BUT fundamentally flawed. Your "well the cost is the same" argument wouldn't work for most buyers. The real comparison would be the NX. Size, cost, aand engines. The RX is significantly larger and has 3rd row option. It is meant for a totally different market niche. You could match the cost, size, weight, agility, turbo engine and performance that would resonate with you with the NX. The NX And RX F-Sport would also give you suspension, wheel and tire options to be the comparison point for people cross shopping the brands.

Almost every 3 row SUV comes with rear climate like the new Pathfinder, Pilot, CX-9, & Highlander along with vehicles like the Tahoe/Suburban. Oh I see totally understand and taking another look this Q5 did have rear controllable climate which is great. Saw some super clean CPO Q5s on Cargurus for under $35k less than 20k miles no accidents, no weird title issues so that can def fit in your budget and Q5s get great gas mileage albeit you will need to use premium fuel. CPO cars will come with some warranty coverage and lower interest rate financing so I'm glad you're looking into those, you're already much farther ahead of the average buyer. If you can pay cash even better since the only thing I don't like about financing and what nobody talks about is the front loaded nature of the interest on a financed car. Banks set up car loans, mortgages, and most other loans where they collect majority interest up front and very little of your payments go toward the equity of the car in the first 3 years or so of the finance causing many to be under water on their cars. But if you can get a clean CPO Q5 for like 30k out the door including taxes and fees that would be a great price to negotiate and pay off as quickly as possible.

@@LilMistyDiaz no worries I’m just glad I can be of help. Trust me you’re way ahead of the average consumers. Most people don’t even know what CPO is and you’re paying cash which is awesome. Yes you should def wait until the last moment to say you’re paying for cash as well. I think it would be best for you to buy a car locally to save headaches and shipping costs because you and your fiancé can personally test drive the car you are purchasing. It is used with some miles after all, just check for any vibrations at speed or under braking. Most things can be fixed an alignment or replacing warped brake rotors. But a good Audi dealership will typically take care of these things for you so it should be clean without issue. Best of luck to you and your fiancé on your car buying journey.
